  1. Interesting, never seen balanced outs for the tt. It makes a huge difference between my pre and my integrated, had to experiment with it.

From what I have read...all cartridges are actually balanced, it is just most are wired unbalanced. I like balanced, but I did not get into rewiring mine for balanced. If I end up down the road getting a higher end table I will look more into getting one with balanced wiring.

  2. I don't know, maybe its me, but couldn't one build a 2'x2' MEH horn and set it on of a tapped horn and have something better, just not so "hifi" looking?  Not to crazy about the side mounted woofers myself.
I would like to try that, if I can get a tapped horn that would put a 2'x2' horn on top and have the correct listening height.

  3. While serving in the USAF and in Germany in the mid 80's, I was a part-time speaker rep for Cerwin Vega, Bose, Infinity, and Klipsch, as well as DBX effects. It was at that time I fell deeply in love with Cornwall's, but on an enlisted man's pay could never afford them. Now that I'm older, and in a better financial position, I can afford some of the "better things in life." So I am actively working to scratch that itch that dates back to 1983 when I heard the Cornwall for the first time.

How ironic... I was in the USAF at RAF Alconbury from 1978 to 1981, and I was offered a job as the rep for the UK, for Nakamichi, and Yamaha. I Turner it down because I was enlisted, and with varying shifts I did not think I could do the job...now I with I would have accepted the offer.

  4. I now have the Minidsp DDRC88A crossover/Dirac in place for my front 3 channels, and have the crossover settings transferred. I still need to install jacks on the rear of each speaker cabinet for the AmpCamp speaker hookups, and rewire the speakers internally. I am going to use banana jacks for the ACAs as it will avoid confusion down the road. On my left and right channels I am planning on putting the appropriate AmpCamp amp on top of each speaker... I am hoping it will not pass too much heat below the amp to the speaker cabinet as it is veneered. I will use the 4 wire Speakons for driving each woofer with its own amp.

  5. Of course, in the life of a a true audiophile, sometimes it's much simpler and cheaper to get rid of the offending wife or girlfriend who doesn't like big horns. I never had that problem, thankfully.
Sometimes its cheaper to keep them...my last divorce cost me over $100k.

  6.
Yes, the shiny black areas are modified contours, similar to what are called mumps on other horns.

The wood trim is rosewood veneer. The bright flash for that picture makes the wood color appear lighter than normal.
I was wondering when someone would make some mumps. Did you notice a difference with your mumps? How did you make and install them?

  7. Impressive space and project to undertake

    It's been a while.....
Your space reminds me of the rooms in the Roman baths in Pompeii.
Vaulted ceiling and the shape and placement of the window etc....

With the speakers pointed away from the windows,
should be similar to the older theaters with the balcony, I always though the balcony had a better view and sound at the Uptown  in DC, and others. Audio for Apocalypse Now was excellent first run..
I have a loft about 8' behind the mlp.

  8. Are exchanging the Xilica for the Minidsp? I would think there would be a down grade to sq.

What Exactly are the 2'x2' mehs for?

I am getting the 2 ddrc88ms for Dirac, and also to replace the Xilica...Chris Said they should be fine. I used the same models before when I had my JBLS and I never heard any difference when I moved to the Xilica.

The 2x2 mehs will be for my surrounds...unless they sound as good as the current mehs, then they will move to the front. If they are moved to the front, I will be looking at building a pair of subs to go under them.

  10. This whole thread is about the Exodus Anarchy 25hz tapped horn.
That is what I need for my MEHs. I wish I could get a flatpack still or some plans... I know where I can get some CNC work done if I had the plans.

  11. You might even be able to solder or braze the pins on....it would be like a name tag plate is.

You might even be able to get some thin nameplares and use some kind of glue and just glue it to the plates...it might be easier if you can find name plates thin enough.
