  1. Watco. Applied according to the directions. Been using it on my Heresy speakers since I bought them years ago. Are the a nice looking as the day I bought them? No. But that's not the Watco's fault.
  2. Show, These guys are giving you great advice. I found myself in a similar situation. I had an old pair of Heresy speakers and was advised to match them. I listened to several speakers at local stores and decided to follow their advice. Was I glad I did! Thanks to the the forum members I found a pair near me for $350. I also just picked up a mis-matched pair for $250 on Ebay. I'm going to use one of them for a center channel. I can't wait for them to arrive. Save your pennies, it will be worth the wait. Believe me.
  3. Horns suck? Geez, I guess that's why the Klipschhorn has been around for over 50 years. Does anyone know of any other speaker that has been made and sold for as long? I don't. Speakers are perhaps the most subjective component of any audio system. Everyone has there own opinion, their own likes and dislikes. (Just ask anyone here what they think of Bose.) I've listened to many, many speakers over the years. , and I've actually heard a pair that sounded better than my Klipsch. Of course, they cost 65 times as much. My Klipsch speakers sound great with all kinds of music, from Enya, to Beethoven, to Nirvana. So do lots of other speakers. But IMHO nothing beats horns for Rock'n'Roll. A really good recording containing some slide guitar -- a little Duane Allman, some Ry Cooder -- I'm in audio heaven.
  4. Kevin, Very nice. The Beatles, McIntosh, and Klipsch. Very well done indeed. Thanks for posting your pics.
  5. Kain, It's only a guess, but I think the 50 frames is a typo. Almost all TV's in the whole world display 60 frames per second. Progressive scan means it is not displayed in interlace mode. For a more thorough explanation, see http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/volume_7_4/dvd-benchmark-part-5-progressive-10-2000.html
  6. K-Daddy, You're right. It's a "flaw" in the chip. Before you run out and buy a new player, I'd suggest you obtain a copy of the DVD they use to test (I think it was Toy Story), and see if you find it particularly offensive or even noticeable. Keep in mind two things, first, the reviewers admitted to being particularly sensitive to the "chroma bug", second, DVD is still a relatively "infant" technology with evolving standards in both hardware and software. With greater market penetration of HD and Digital TV and more movies are shot on digital video, the lowest common denominator shall rise. Meanwhile we "pioneers" must endure glitches and bugs. Peace
  7. Fellas, Fellas, It's not about money. It's about enjoying the music. Right now there's some folks in Afganistan listening to some raggedy old tapes on a boom-box that's been buried in the back yard for 5 years. I guarantee they're having as good or better time as the guy with basement sub-woofer. I've always felt that as we go through life, we should at least try to do no harm. I'd rather a bunch of rich folks spent stupid money on stereo equipment than donate it to terrorists. Capice? Peace ======= BTW: I've heard those $65,000 speakers. They are fantastic.
  8. Also, some of the cheaper brands will sometimes design it so you get most of the volume gain by 10 o'clock or so. Besides, IMHO the mark of a truly good system is how it sounds at lower volumes.
  9. Guys, I want to thank you. Thanks to you I was able to purchase two Heresy speakers for $350 from a woman in Queens. Walnut, consecutive serial numbers, a bit nicked up, but still sound sweet. Why'd she sell them you ask..."They're big and wood and don't go with anything". Oh yeah. I owe it all to you. She would have given them away if it hadn't been for you guys. Thanks 'Busa and Joe T. for the tip. I picked them up on Wednesday, and received my center channel (C6) on Friday. After much mucking about (what's with those not one, but two inner plastic layers on Monster XP anyway?), I have it all connected and somewhat adjusted. Oh baby am I a happy man! Thanks again guys.
  10. Kain, The Sony 9000ES is an awesome machine. It was my first choice. But it has some problems. It has the "Chroma bug" (so does the Toshiba). It also has limited format abilities (no cd-rw, mp3, DVD-RW, etc). It does, however, have outstanding SACD playback. Further research let me discover that several high end DVD players, including the $8000 Camelot, use Panasonic transports and decoders! I spent many hours on the internet and more hours in various stores. I finally settled on the Panasonic DVD-A7. (It doesn't have the chroma bug). The Sony DVD-NS700P is also way cool, but the DVD-A7 plays DVD-audio and has really cool blue lights. I was also able to pick one up on Ebay for $350. ($999 list). I have not seen the Toshiba you mentioned, but I have spent many hours watching the Sony at my friend Mike's house, and I honestly prefer my Panasonic. The picture is better and more stable. That could be due, however, to a difference in TV's. (His is a Pioneer Elite projection unit, mine is a Panasonic direct-view HDTV). Anyway, I highly recommend the site mentioned in oogins' post. It's highly informative. Then make up your mind. Good luck! ------------------ Yo!
  11. Congrats Danartis! While trolling through old posts on this forum, I ran into an old one where you were in a similar position (two older Heresy speakers). I saw Malcom's advice to you then (4xHeresy and an Academy center). Glad to see your happy, I feel certain that I will be soon. --------- Klipsch Heritage Rules!
  12. Dudes, Thank you for all the advice. Looks like 4x4 Heresy is the way to go. Too bad all the ones on Ebay right now look so grubby. I'm going to try it without the center channel as several of you have suggested. As for a sub, the building is an old brownstone, not a modern cardboard sh**box. Besides, all my neighbors are young, they can deal with it. Busa, You're right, I pay a king's ransom for my apt. My TV is a Panasonic CT 34WX50. It's a direct-view 16:9, I paid $2699 at J&R, and it is soooooo nice. I recommend it highly. Thanks again fellas. Much appreciated.
  13. Hi, I'm a newbie to home theater and this forum. But I'm not a newbie to Klipsch. I'm a proud owner of a pair of Heresy speakers I bought in 1976. These beauties have stayed with me through many iterations of my stereo system. During the last year, my CD player broke, my pre-amp went south, and the last straw, my beloved XBR gave up the ghost. (Dead tube). Now I find myself with an amp (100x2), my lovely walnut Heresy's, and a new 16x9 direct view TV -- all stuffed into a tiny (14'x17') New York City apartment. After several frustrating trips to various stores, and listening to the dreck foisted off on the public these days, I discovered this forum. (You guys have some AWESOME systems!) I've read almost all the posts, and here's what I came up with: Keep the Heresy's for Left and Right front KSP-S6 surrounds KSP-C6 center (the C-7 is just too huge) What do you think? Also, I'm totally at sea when it comes to a sub. I would appreciate any and all suggestions. Thanks
  14. I'm a fan of direct view TV. I purchased a Panasonic CT-34WX50 (34", 16x9) for $2699 from J&R. I am VERY pleased. With either DTV or DVD, this sucker rocks. ------------------ Yo!
