  1. A friend of mine recently disassembled is late model Heresy speakers in order to perform some mods (bracing, refinishing). We can't tell how to reconnect the speaker wiring on the K-53 to the crossover. He neglected to make any notes. They only possible clue we have is that looking at the squawker head on, there is a yellow C marked on the left side connection. Could that stand for "common". We'd sure like some help. Don't want to mis connect anything. Thanks!
  2. Alas, this won't work in my town. (Manhattan) As an early adopter of HD-TV, I suffered. The cable company did not do HD when I bought my set. So, even though I knew there was not a prayer, I tried. Several attempts at over-the-air reception (both indoor and outdoor), met with total failure. Heck you can't even get regular TV reception here in the big apple. Too many big, tall steel-framed buildings. Everyone has to have cable or satellite. Now here's the weird part, I found out that there was an unpublished number you could call, and you could get an HD cable box! This phone number was not in the phone book, was not on the web-site, was not listed in the literature. The number was passed around buy word of mouth! I was ecstatic!
  3. I have two pairs of Heresys one has no risers, the other are 14"x12"x1" (no slant). These are all Heresy I's. Somewhere in these forums there is a post of some old ads/brochures showing risers an extra cost option,on the original Heresy.
  4. Bluray should win, it's the better format (IMHO). As for Wal-Mart, I hope those of you with kids are having them learn Mandarin. We (the US) now ship raw materials to China, and import finished goods from them. That's the definition of a colony. [:'(]
  5. I don't know if you are still looking, but there is a pair for sale on Ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/VINTAGE-KLIPSCH-K400-HORNS-IN-GREAT-CONDITION_W0QQitemZ180111525589QQihZ008QQcategoryZ73372QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  6. It arrived Friday, but.... I haven't had a day off until today.[] I'll pick them up this morning as soon as the PO opens.
  7. She's Chinese. From Queens (where else?) Picture was taken at my car club's picnic last spring.
  8. Gold. Just like my '77 Heresy's. PS: Chris, the check's in the mail.[H]
  9. Hope this posts. No, that's not my girlfriend or wife. She's my friend's g/f. Seems the only way I get my picture taken is when I'm with a pretty woman.
  10. Thanks to mungkiman, I'll have my crossover network. And big thanks to Dr. Who...I've now found some woofers by Eminence that will fit both my box size and my budget. I should be back in a couple of weeks with some pictures of the completed center channel. Just one more question... Do you think I can get one of those old style PWK emblems from Klipsch for my grill?
  11. I read about the Daytons somewhere in these forums. Thanks for the correct information. I'm not 100% sold on any particular woofer. Most sights, such as partsexpress and madisound have the T/S parameters listed. I've been plugging them into WinISD. I know I can't get an exact match, but as long as they are not completely "wrong" I should be ok (I hope!). I have to say that you guys in this forum are awesome. Some of the projects are incredible and the amount of knowledge...well, words fail me. Anyway, I've caught the disease. And I don't mind at all.
  12. It is with great trepidation that write my first post in this forum. (I feel like Wayne and Garth, I'm so not worthy.) But you've helped me out in the past, so here goes. I've finally gotten some decent electronics to power my Heresy based home theater setup. (Rotel RSP-976 and matching Rotel RB-976) They improved the sound immensely, but brought up one major flaw -- my center channel. I've decided to create my own, and have acquired a K-77 and K-55. I plan to use Dayton paper cone woofers. Someone said they made the original Klipsch woofers and I figure that while they won't keep up on volume, they'll at least have a similar "coloration". (At least I hope so). What I need is a Heresy Type E network. Anyone have one laying around that they are willing to sell for a reasonable price? (I originally planned to "roll my own", but after reading countless threads on the subject, I realized I need to throughly digest "Crossovers for Dummies" before any such attempts.) In fact, once I get the center channel built, I plan to replace the caps on my '77 Heresy's with the kit offered by Bob Crites. Any comments, thoughts or suggestions would greatly appreciated.
  13. Should be obvious -- hook 'um up, crank 'um up! [] (Sorry, I couldn't resist). After seeing all the things you've done, you must have something for a bass bin laying around.
  14. Depends on who you neighbors are. [] I keep mine turned down pretty low, especially with DVD's. They tend to accentuate the explosions, etc in the movies. If I'm not careful, the first space ship landing in "Fifth Element" will rattle the bricks right out of the walls.
  15. Studio, May I echo the other forum members and say you should try to build you system piecemeal. Start off with two speakers that you really want, and add the centers and surrounds later. In any system the speakers are the key. I've had my original two Heresy speaker since 1977. Many other components have come and gone, but the Klipsch speakers are still with me. (Joined by two others I bought from a woman who thought they were "too big, too old, and didn't go with anything".) Good luck, have fun. You're off to a good start with Klipsch!
  16. Funny thing, the ThinkPad laptops were made by Lenovo for IBM. Then IBM sold the business to Lenovo, In and odd twist on outsourcing/globalization, outsourced the executive functions back to IBM! They're still good laptops.
  17. I've been in the PC field since the orginal PC. what you describe is not so odd. I used to recommend Dell to everyone because of their great technical support. Not anymore. The cause? Us. We all want cheap stuff and in order to compete on price, customer service had to go. Now I tell people to buy the cheapest PC that will work for them. That way they can afford to simply toss it when it breaks. At the dizzying speed of hardware changes, there's very little point to "upgrade" or even fix a broken PC. Dell is not what it once was. Their computers are crap. Their parts are cheap and proprietary. Buy a cheap HP from whoever, or roll your own. PS: I work in technology in a large investment bank. It's a Dell shop and have to deal with blown motherboard caps, dead power supplies, dead hard drives, faulty memory everyday.
  18. Glad someone picked up my nick's cultural origin. The WRX is a nod to my second-childhood. (Like Klipsch Heritage series, it routinely embarrases more expensive cars. I eat BMW's for lunch.) The Heresy home theater came about because I had two I bought back in the '70's. Always loved Klipsch speakers: dreamed of K-horns, wanted Cornwalls, but bought my Heresy's for $600 on sale. (This was back when $600 was a lot of money). Flash forward 25 years, I buy a 16:9 HD TV and I gotta go surround sound. I'm cruising through the Klipsch catalog trying to decide which surround speakers to buy, when someone on this board tells me about a woman who had a pair for sale for $250. Best of all, she's in Brooklyn. I call her. She doesn't want these "big, old, wood things that don't go with anything". Feng shui in Brooklyn, who'd a thunk it. My system is just about perfect for a small space. The sound is awesome. It's especially impressive when there's something good on either PBS-HD or Discovery Channel HD. For demo purposes I use the music on the opening credits of "Blow" (a Rolling Stones song of course!). You feel like you can take a walk through the band. It's amazing. With a better center channel, my system will be "perfect".
  19. Greetings all. I've finally started back down the road to surround sound heaven you all helped me get into several years ago. I just picked up a Rotel RSP-976 surround processor and Rotel RB-976 6 channel amplifer. (This was what I had picked out 6 years ago, 2 short days before I got outsourced.[:'(] ) Still a worthy addition to my current system: Klipsch Heresy Front channel speakers Klipsch Heresy Rear channel speakers Klipsch KSP-C6 Center Channel Velodyne SPL Subwoofer Panasonic 34" Direct View HDTV Rotel RB-976 6 Channel Amplifier (bridged for fronts and center) Yamaha MX-2 Stereo Amplifier Rotel RSP-976 Surround Processor Panasonic DVD A-7 Player Monster Power HTS 5000 Power Center Homebuilt PC integrated with system. With my recent additions, all I can say is "wow". Now, I realize that my humble system can barely hold a candle to what many of you have. Still, I live in New York City in a small apartment with my gear. Oh, and I'm single. So I get to play and/or watch what and how and when I want. (Ok, I have neighbors, but today I have off, and nobody else is home, so I'm cranking it!) Anyway, after months of mega-overtime, I finally can let the moths out of the wallet and fix the weak spot in my system, the center channel. Anybody have a old Heresy lying around gathering dust? Give me a shout,... please. Thanks
  20. You probably have spyware on your PC. Download and install SpyBot Search and Destroy (http://www.spybot.info/en/index.html). If you are running Windows XP, download and install Service Pack 2. Service Pack 2 includes a popup blocker for IE6. Otherwise get a popup blocker such as BPS popup blocker (http://www.bulletproofsoft.com). Do the spyblocker thing first.
  21. Hello everyone, I have two mis-matched Heresy speakers for sale. I bought them years ago for a "center-channel-from-hell" project. I've lost my job for the second time since 9/11, and need to let them go. Serial numbers: 171Y139 & 34R749. They were rescued from a school auditorium. They are NOT cosmetically perfect. Both are missing their grill cloths. One is oiled walnut, with holes in the top, the other is (I think) birch and also has holes in the top. Otherwise they perform perfectly. I'd like $100 OBO. Please e-mail me (ghanks@mindspring.com) if you're interested, and I'll send you pictures or any other info you require. Thanks, Gary

I still crank up Hendrix, but now I crank up Beethoven's "Emporer Concerto" as well. Good music is good music regardless of the Genré.
  23. Heritage series all the way! Glad someone (mpgwagon) had the nerve to compare them with the reference series. IMHO the legend series (esp the 20 and 30) were the last "modern" Klipsch speakers that really cut the mustard. Once you decide on which model will fit your budget/room, you and your tube amp will be very, very happy.
