  1. My wife suggested adding an exterior wall (a fomer porch), tearing down others, and eliminating a closet to build a "better room for your movies and such" - then just nodded when I said "of course, that will demand better center and rears" - leading to another pair of Fortes for rear surrounds, and an Academy center. she previously bought into the mighty SVS sub as well... that said, the 4 forte + academy system + SVS system is really starting to satisfy me. sat down and watched "Spy Kids" with my 11-yr old girl yesterday (last hurrah before 6th grade started today), and the rear effects were noticably better (damm well should be, after replacing KG.5s with Fortes). anyhow, lunacy is good, and more is better.
  2. good luck. at least you have the internet, even if slow, to maintain some connection to the world and family. Just think of how sweet it will be to man the rails and pull back into homeport - you can smell the perfume from a mile away, or so it seemed. ah, the old (86-89) days of haze grey and underway, mid-watches, etc. At least for me, it was happily interupted by the occasional roar of the 16"... stay safe.
  3. SVS is very popular, I have one in a 14' x 15' room (a PB-12 plus 2), and think it offers the best bass for the $. see www.svsubwoofers.com, they are only available on line.
  4. I ended up with Forte + Academy + Forte rears, which all sound great together; so the Forte or Forte II issue is moot in my case. thanks,
  5. I've got a KV-2 you can have for low $, if you want something immediate $75 + shipping
  6. I've got a black academy, with OO fortes in front, and walnut fortes for surrounds. I forget all about the mismatched colors once I sit down to listen...
  7. nope, just "large" or "small" - but I'll give the "small" setting a try tonight. funny, since getting the academy and the fortes for L+R rears, my wife and daughter are watching movies every day, and most nights. Wife actually let me crank up "The Fifth Element" the other night - and grapped the remote to turn the singing by the "diva" up louder. All she used to do was say "does it need to be that loud?"
  8. Fortes have been moving pictures around on my walls since 1986. Had them in a 2-ch rig with the Adcom GFA-1A @ 200 w/ch amp - and still remember the time (living in base housing, over xmas break with everyone else on leave) when I did "Houses of the Holy" with both amp LEDs flashing (indicating peaks ~ 200 watts)- clean, powerful, amazing sound Maybe I'm screwing up on HT though. I've got my RXV-995 set to "large" for all 4 Fortes and my Academy, and have set the subwoofer setting to "sub+mains" seems to rock my house - I can't see setting Fortes as "small" but maybe I should set the sub to output to the SVS only? suggestions welcome
  9. It is a KV-2 center channel, not a pair of speakers. Still interested? ~$90 + shipping?
  10. black KV-2 for offer to forum members first. good shape, original box still available. make offer. it goes to e-bay next month. thanks
  11. good idea, thanks. two other schemes in mind, 1) replace 36" mitsu w/ plasma of other HDTV option, and 2) start watching e-bay for a 3 x 200 watt adcom amp, thinking I'll use it for L + C + R, and move the old GFA-1a to L+R rear use. and freeing up the Yamaha amps for the L + R outdoor speakers on the outside of the new media room. so I need outdoor speakers, too. Anyone here hear the latest Klipsch outdoor products? suggestions? thanks,
  12. my new HT room is not yet done, due to the need to finish the floor. However, a second pair of Fortes showed up yesterday to replace KG.5s as the L+R rears, and go with an Academy picked up last month as a replacement to a KV-2. Coupled with a SVS PB-2 plus in the current ~12' x 14' den, it promises to be very good in the new room. popped in the obligatory "Hell Freezes Over" DVD for the DTS testing, and it was amazing. I'll do calibration tonight, and run some DVD movie demos - I expect they will be as good as the music. the new room is 14' x 14' - so there will be tuning to be done to make that right, and maybe some risers to put all the Fortes at ear level, but that will be the fun part. the joy of Klipsch remains as high as when I bought the pair of Fortes in 1986.

Can anyone suggest a Klipsch model that will match, that is still available new? ---------------- having recently scored an Academy and another pair of Fortes to match my existing Fortes, I happen to have a KV-2 center channel and a pair of KG.5 bookshelf speakers I've been using as rear surrounds. I have all the original boxes for the speakers, plus the wall brackets for the KG.5s. make an offer, I'll be happy to ship them out...
  14. there is a pair of Forte IIs on e-bay right now - you could have a matching center and rear center, or surrounds, if you want
  15. I have '86 Fortes and an Academy center right now, with KG.5s as rear surrounds. Having scored the Academy this summer, and moving everything into a new media room, seems like it is time to upgrade the rears. Just saw and reflexively bid on a pair of Forte IIs on e-bay, and then wondered, "how will that work?" I was assuming I would put the Forte IIs in as L+R mains, and move the Fortes to rear surround duty. Any thoughts or known issues matching Fortes with Forte IIs ?? Thanks.

  17. UPS box from a forum member arrived today! Great condition black Academy sitting on top the 36" mitsu TV to match up with the 86' oiled oak Fortes. Entire system moves to new media room next week. pictures will follow. perfect condition black KV-2 for sale - make offer.

  19. me too - particularly if you are in new england (I am in NW CT) I have started to look for an oiled oak academy and another pair of fortes (for rear surrounds) to go with the current fortes in a new media room that is almost done. fortes look reasonable on ebay, but the last academy went for $562 (I lost at $525 max bid) any other input on recent academy sales? or is $550-600 the "going rate"? thanks
  20. I am in the midst of building out a home theatre room, and just ordered my boxes of stuff from Parts Express. I thought I had gotten a box of 500' of 12 gauge wire, but must have fumble fingered and ended up with 1,000' of 16 gauge. they ended up about the same cost, and I don't have time to ship it back - sheet-rockers coming in next week. I searched back posts, and seem to see a lot of folks think 16 gauge is just fine. It is a lot thinner than the current heavy monster cable I have going to my fortes, but my longest wire run will be ~ 18'. Wanted to "gauge" opinions - should I go find 12 gauge wire this weekend, or just use the box of 16 I have in hand? (then try to sell/credit the rest to my builder, who may have a use for 600' of 16 gauge) thanks.
  21. A question is raised concerning the link between owning Klipsch speakers and firearms. I too enjoy both. Maybe it is more socioeconomics, but they can take my Klipsch Fortes when they pry them from my fingers... (oops, maybe I meant my Glock 19...) As far a the AUG is concerned, I prefer an old heavyweight, the Springfield Armory M1-A Supermatch with a Weaver 4x16x on top. < .75 MOA with 168 gr federal match ammo, not bad for a semiauto.
  22. Any experience out there using RCW-5s for rear surrounds? I have Kg.5's right now, oriented facing in off the side walls in my room, just behind my seating position. The room is ~13 ft x 20 ft, TV at center of short wall, listening chair ~ 13 ft back from TV. Household peacekeeping suggests losing the black boxes hanging off the wall. The in-wall option looks most reasonable, with the primary option to place them on the back wall behind the seating position. Any thoughts from the crowd on: 1) how do the RCW-5s sound 2) any better options 3) what is better placement for rears, to the side or behind the listening postion. If it matters, I have Fortes as mains, a KV-2 center, powered by Yamaha RXV-995. thanks in advance for your help.
  23. I've settled on SVS as well, and also have the "how to power them, will this old amp work?" question. Anyone used an Adcom GFA-1A to run SVS? It is a mid 80's 200 w/ ch relic. I shelved it when the GFP-1 crapped out and I got a Yamaha rxv995 for HT. thanks
  24. Textf> I need some sage advice from the klipschites... It is time to add a subwoofer to the current array, which includes a yamaha rxv-995, fortes, sv-2 center and kg.5 rears. I am considering the rsw-12 or a pair of svs 20-39s. I have an old (circa 1986) Adcom GFA-1A 200 w/ch amp I could run the SVS tubes with, although I might have to add an equalizer to control the volume through (I'll bother "TV" once if I settle on the SVSs). My listening room is ~13' x 19' I want the sub to add oomph to HT, as the fortes are still nirvana for 2 channel music. so, what is the best use of my ~$1100 (or so), new tube subs with an old amp, or a new in box klipsch box with onboard amp? a follow on question - I also plan to upgrade the rears and center in the immediate future. the wife would prefer "in-wall" rears - how would using RCW-5s compare to the RS-7? and would the RC-7 be a good center match for the fortes? thanks,
