  1. @oldred keep your post up. I've lost deals in the past for similar reasons (and been upset), but at the end of the day, the seller is the only one with any right to the item for sale. He got a better deal, and you can't fault him for taking it, and most people would. There was nothing expressed in his ad that he would hold anything for anyone. Sure, I'm holding out, but at the end of the day, if he decided to sell what I wanted to someone else, that's his perogative, and no one else's.
  2. Yep, you sold me on the Anthem and that's the pre/pro I've been looking for, for a while now. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  3. Or you could buy a black lacquer and veneer it. I did that and it wasn't difficult, and it's far easier to find anything in black than walnut. I can't speak for the Academy sound, but I use the KLF-C7 as my rear channel, and when I plugged it up to hear the sound as a single channel (front), I was thoroughly impressed. 4. PM sent. Just checking to see if it's still available. Sent from my SM-G930U using Tapatalk
  5. I've read that about the Dirac, but I can't get past the reviews I've read about the Emotiva Pre-Pro user interfaces. I just keep reading they're not very refined, and if I'm going to drop a bunch of money in one, I'd want it to work effortlessly. I've heard their equipment is well-built, but several posts in my searches have given me a little doubt. How would you compare it to an Integra since you have experience with both? I've had a recommendation to look at the DRC-R1, and I haven't see any bad comments about their equipment. The system is mostly for movies, but even for music, I like to have all channels firing if possible. From what I read on the Marantz, it allows separate calibration for subs and separate video settings per source rather than a global setting. I love the system you've got...I've got a similar one (all heritage).
  6. I guess I should have pointed out that the main reason I'm considering these is because they're all 4K/HDR and Atmos ready. I don't have the TV for it right now, but I know that will eventually happen and I'd like to keep the pre-pro for 10+ years. I'm definitely looking on the used market, and I've got a ton of time to wait for the right one. Right now, I could pick up an XMC-1 for $900 locally (probably less), the 8802a goes for around $1600 regularly on eBay, and the Anthem has gone for around $2000. I really do appreciate all of the feedback. Everyone has pretty much talked me off of the Emotiva bandwagon and it's going to be a tough decision between the other two, but I'm leaning toward the Anthem, based on all it's features (and ease of use).
  7. I was planning on locating an Anthem dealer near me to see it in action, but this video really helped. It might be a little more technical than I would have liked, but I think I've got someone that can give me a hand with that.
  8. Thank you all for the feedback. This says a lot, but why would you say to steer clear of them? I've also heard they had some bugs initially, but haven't seen any recent complaints (last 12 months). What do you like about your Marantz compared to the others (if you have any experience with them)?
  9. I have, and from what I gather, I don't think I could go wrong with any of the three compared to what I was and currently am using. I already know your suggestion...lol.
  10. They all have their own versions of room correction, and I can't find anyone to say anything bad about any of them. Is ARC more rubust than Dirac (Emotiva) and Audyssey (Marantz)? I've read their marketing materials, but would appreciate any feedback on experience with them.
  11. I've seen this response many times on this forum and other places and many who would put the Emotiva right up there with them. Is there any reason why you put those two ahead of the Emotiva and why you wouldn't consider it?
  12. Later this year I'm planning on upgrading my AV setup by adding a pre/pro. I've read as much as I can find on here about these amps, and I'm looking for honest feedback on each from people that have owned them or looked at buying them (and why they did or didn't go with that model). My current setup is a 6.1 channel setup with heritage (Forte 2s and Heresy 2) for the fronts and surround L/R, with a Cinema F20, and it's 90% movies/TV and about 10% music. I replaced my Harman Kardon Receiver with an OPPO UDP-203 as a decoder and a Rotel RMB-1077 amplifier. I have read many reviews on each pre/pro and have seen that they are all roughly in the same level of quality. I plan on using a universal remote to control it all, so ideally I'd like something that works with a Harmony remote with relative ease. I'm not looking for bashing a manufacturer, but just likes and dislikes for each (user interface, audio quality, set up simplicity, etc). I am leaning more towards the Marantz, but have a killer deal for a XMC-1 available to me. Thanks for any advice in advance.
  13. No price is listed (negotiable), but they look like they're in pretty good shape. Looks like oiled walnut. https://us.letgo.com/en/i/klipsch-forte-8625643-product-label_7372e5bf-2d51-43a6-95eb-274cbc097bbd
  14. Thanks. That's would look really cool, but it was challenging enough already without trying to two-tone it. Sent from my SM-G930U using Tapatalk
  15. Those LSI splits have been my favorite set of Klipsch speakers so far, even as much as I like my Forte II's. To be fair,@CECAA850 did rebuild the internals for me with the Crites titanium tweeters. They've been great for the garage, I'm just looking forward to really cleaning them up some day. 16. Accidentally double-posted. Please delete comment.
  17. I built it out of cabinet grade birch. Originally, I was going to stain it. If I could go back and do it again, I'd use MDF and still veneer it. Much cheaper, and easier to get. And you answer your question, yeah, I'm really glad how well it turned out (and how it sounds...lol). Sent from my SM-G930U using Tapatalk
  18. I ran across these in College Station, TX. The asking price is high ($1500 for the CWII) given the amount of work that needs to be done (complete refinishing on both, I think), but they still function well. I'm not sure if it's the same person, but I would guess so, given the condition. Homebrewing

I've been brewing for a few years and have a small list of recipes that I brew on rotation (winter warmer, APA, Oktoberfest, and Meade). When I find time this spring, I'm hoping to do a barley wine or a Westvleteren clone. Like you, I keg everything because I'd seen others bottling...nope. If you've ever got questions, I'm no pro, but could tell you equipment that helps (and stuff to avoid), and some ways to make things yourself (ie: wort chiller). Sent from my SM-G930U using Tapatalk
  20. I think that's the one I built it with. It sounds great so far. And yes, this is my first horn sub. I hear what y'all are saying about the distortion (or lack thereof). Sent from my SM-G930U using Tapatalk
  21. Thanks, everyone. I just got to hook it up yesterday and I'm impressed with the sound (especially how low it goes), but it's much cleaner sounding than any other sub I've owned. I'm really looking forward to putting it through the paces with movie nights. I went with the F20 at Carl's recommendation, and due to the size limitations of where it sits.
  22. Continued: First cut on the veneer. Got my supervisor keeping a lookout from the garage. Contact cement rolled on, just waiting for it to dry. It was tricky to cut the access door before it was glued. I was trying to save the piece so the grain would match. I ended up using some boards and clamps on one side of the hole at a time to hold it roughly where I wanted it. I rolled it backwards and made some score marks with a knife to mark the exact corners, then switched to the other side. I took it off, used a straight edge to connect the marks on the corners, and it came out almost as cleanly as I wanted. The difficult side is done. The rest was a cake walk comparatively. Just enough of a gap to make it easy to install. Bracing installed for the door, and I painted the interior black. Edge banding installed and moved inside. I used two coats of Dark Walnut Danish oil from Watco. It doesn't quite match the Forte IIs, but it's close enough and I know the color will change slightly with age. Lastly, I wanted something a little nicer looking for the plate amp (Dayton 500w). I was a little less discerning with the finish of this, since it was going to stay mostly unseen. Like the F20, it's birch ply with walnut veneer. I added some black walnut on the front for aesthetics, and because I mis-measured the depth of the amp when installed. I took the amp out of the plastic case and there is an opening at the bottom and top to allow for some ventilation when I get around to cranking this thing up.
  23. The last two weekends I've been working to assemble the sub and it's respective amplifier box. My father in law (CECAA850) helped me build the box last weekend, and I've done all the finishing work since. He encouraged me to do a build thread, so here we go: Build Day: Hole for the driver cut and inserts glued. Lining everything up Mostly complete, minus the top, with braces installed Top installed, glued, and all screws removed. Access door is cut and routed smooth Screw holes are filled Back painted black. Decided to do that since no one will ever see it, and I wasn't sure I'd have enough veneer to do that. Mouth painted black as well.
