  1. A friend of mine did some tests of the Khorn in a anechoic chamber at Inststute of hearing in St.Louis,,,,He claimed the woofer excursion on the lower hertz sweeps Were about 1/8 to about 3/16 of an inch... He made test instruments to observe the motion,,,, This person was also involved for Coclear implant testing at that time and maping its results...He also had a pair of K horns at his home.... I,ll have to contact him to find out what woofers he had... I remember he had a CTS woofer sitting on the floor,,,That he acquired elsewhere..

YEH but that JBL version can get you $ 1000. each
  3. 6x13 ,,3x13 were to extend upper end of woofer response not cabinet..... Rear chamber was the same only change was when he chopped sinous slots along sides to increase chamber area..That accidently gave him the EMF change,,
  4. Marvel..... Get it done,,,, Make it large.... Mine is 32 inches wide,,,

  8. Yes Paul was looking for a good cheep mid or tweet at that time even approached JBL
  9. NO silk was never used in diaphrams back in the 40s
  10. YES that wiki article is way out of date,,, JIM HUNTER at Klipsch Co is the historian
  11. Vin ,,,Your no jackass...Like me you found many faults and want to address them,,, I don't find any major faults with the bass bin,,, But oh jeez the mid and tweets were allways a piece of crap,,, George ASHWORH who worked with Paul on findeing a better woofer design,,, Never liked the top end,,,There were other friends of Paul and George in StLouis,,Called the "gang of five"...Paul sent up a mid horn for Georg to look at..I don't remember which one it was,,,I,d have to go down stairs and look up the notations and tech letters...But the mid horn looked pretty crude to me,,,This was the first time I got to see ASHWORTHs "working bass bin,,,HE was a devout MONO man... He had one K horn in his living room and one in his Lab room on the lower level,,, With all kinds of test electronics equipment,, Sweep genaraters, Chart recorders,, Calibrated micraphones,, couple of scopes Amps and other woofers sitting all over the place,,.. I noticed that bass bin had J lugs and wing nuts on the side access door... This was the special K horn Paul made for ASHWORTH.. IT was a pretty big room... Remember Paul didn't have a ANACHOIC CHAMBER AT THAT TIME,,, But there was one in St.Louis,,, At the Central Instatute for Hearing,,,They had TWO chambers,,,,,,, But what was interesting At GEORGs place was the mid and tweet horns he developed,,,This was the split in the direction George was doing and what Klipsch was up to.. I,ll get to that later,,.. My typing fingers are getting cramped......Excuse my spelling..
  12. The top fold cavity probably would not hold the weight...And would rip through... A friend of mine thought of making a 3" hole and pouring in concrete..After hardening,,Fliping over and doing the same to bottom cavity,, C R A Z Y
  13. The bass bin is pretty massive...and solid... BUT Vitavox use of thicker wood was a sound idea,,,,But in the end...the bass frequencies were not one white note better,,,,, Adding sand would not make that last note any cleaner,,....A bigger room would help more,,,,, MY bat cave is 18 x 28 The bass frequencies have room to breath
  14. No nothing else was applied by hand... I have one of the CTS K33....That goop was part of that design,..... JBL has that on some of their outer compliance ring,,,,, It gets grungie... Don't mess with it....
  15. Current K33 do not need treatment..Stevens do not need treatment,,,,,, EV ??????
  16. That's why I got a good pair of shoes...You can walk away from it...
  17. Years ago Klipsch Licenced VITAVOX to make the Khorn in Europe,,,, The bass bin was of a thicker dimensional wood,, 3/4 and thicker,,,This eliminated all this beefing up of thinner wood Paul used,,,Plus a better woofer, Plus a better mid and horn,,,VITAVOX was way ahead on QUALITY
  18. Good.... Years ago I just added an extra stiffner to the outside of that board..Plus added a stiffner to the bass access door...Its been that way for 40 yrs..
  19. And that is why I go to the concert halls every week end to listen to St.Louis Symphony..... Or fly to England to listen "live" to the London Symphony orch... Reproduced music at home has never been a enjoyment to me,,,,,, Now lets not get into Hall sound or seat location... I don't care,,,
  20. This all changed when Stevens made a series of woofers to pauls specs,,,..and Paul didn't have apply the chem, to lowerFe... Now Eminence hasthe code,,,,,,, I don't think EV would have done that ,making that crude cut...,,, Some one passed a lousey woofer on to you...
  21. But we wont get into that cesspool of a forum..
