  1. Thanks. I have to admit the speaker radar went off when I saw this because that is some awesome stuff. I am interested more in the big boys and not the La Scalas which just don't cut it any more. OUCH 1200+ mile drive each way in winter though it would have to be a deal.
  2. OK rule # 1 is you are always right and know more. # 2 is when speech bludgeons do not work deflect deflect deflect.
  3. Yes and I would ask Dave A too since he buys lots of Klipsch Pro gear.
  4. I just have this little vignette of OD arguing with his math teachers about 2+2=?
  5. It's not obvious? I'd recommend that if he/she is apt to be bothered by a channel imbalance than some means to adjust relative volume b/w channels is a MUST, either a balance control (easy to find) or separate L/R volume controls (rare, but there are a few). The gift that keeps giving.
  6. Amen to that and thanks to Chris for his work with Audacity there. It is fun to watch people as you take their source material and run it through Audacity.
  7. So what specifically would you recommend to a beginner that would work right regarding your comment?
  8. Well if a person were to ask me what kind of AVR to get I would not say Onkyo or Yamaha and not identify one out of the dozens out there. Not very specific there for the poor beginner and I must say the reasons for those selections, whatever they were, are somewhat nebulous. Specific models and why for instance would contribute SO much more than vague generalities.
  9. And your recommended beginner's basic, pragmatic, and affordable system components are???? Well here we go. Up early and much to my delight the Klipsch Onion staff is on the job. 🤣
  10. This thread is not for beginners it is for the entertainment of forum members. If you don't lose sight of that nor take OD to seriously it is great entertainment sprinkled with good things from other people. DEFLECT ALERT! So why are you not telling us your recommended beginner's basic, pragmatic, and affordable system components?
  11. DEFLECT ALERT! So why are you not telling us your recommended beginner's basic, pragmatic, and affordable system components?
  12. Yup starting for me was an Onkyo 8050 and an $800.00 La Scala. Whole shooting match for $1,000.00 and I was in heaven.
  13. So please describe your recommended beginner's basic, pragmatic, and affordable system components. If I were looking what should I buy?
  14. Hickory, Black Locust or Oak for firewood. Walnut is crummy to burn. Cut some Black Locust today for the "major" winter storm heading east.
  15. I prefer set. My wife does too as it is set this here and set that there. I get to set down in the room at times so that is another advantage of set.
  16. You seem hung up on beginners. Why do you think you are qualified to determine what beginners should do? There is a difference between having a conversation about things you have done and why, and holding yourself out as a Guru to be followed with all other opinions discarded unless they agree with you. Your experience as far as I can tell is limited at best.
  17. Cutting wood begins tomorrow.
  18. Well it looks like Red Oak to me with a coarser grain than the White Oak I am used to and yes pores.
  19. My thought is to stay with wood used by Klipsch for veneer. I think part of the problem with this oak is it was grown in the Tennessee area. Growth rings are quite large here and things grow fast. The same tree from up north is denser and has a fine wood grain since growing conditions are not as good. The again there are different Red Oaks so I might just have to learn to judge wood better. I am going to try White Oak also though and see if with stain it will match veneer too.
  20. Here is one out of Red Oak which is e real problem child to cut well. Now I know why Klipsch veneer has so many little holes because it is just what Red Oak does. I have to figure out where to get some with closer grain or try another Oak altogether. I kind of like the overall appearance with the oak more.
  21. I was out in my shop today and this weird little dude showed up. He had a pointed hat with stars and moons on it and spoke a little strangely. So I let him ramble on for a bit and this thing appeared on my vice. Funny how wood cuts. This Walnut is a charm and I can't get a single Red Oak one to cut without some splintering. I think the answer will be a down cutting end mill and not an up cutting if I can find one. These flanges where the screws to cabinet go are thicker than the aluminum ones and the tapped holes are a bit deeper for additional pull out strength. All in all I am very pleased with these and will be making them starting tomorrow.
  22. That comes with typhoon insurance right?
