  1. First of all, I'm not your son, second, I am not kidding! I must assume if you're caucasion, it does not matter what you call anyone else. And yes, "nip" would be another derogatory term. It's evident you don't know the difference between an abbreviation and an ethnic slur. If you work for any major company or corporation, go to the personnel or human resources manager and see what they would tell you about calling a person of Japaneese decent, either of those two words. It's hard to believe and accept, in this year of 2006, you and others here on this forum still don't get it. Klipsch out.
  2. Instead of being offended, you post this. A sad commentary for someone who is supposed to be a business person. I regret I ever spent any of my money on your product. It will never happen again. Klipsch out. What's wrong with that post? All he was trying to tell you is to lighten up. You've been pretty angry of late and don't ever have anything nice to say anymore. It seems all you do now is criticize everyone on this board (myself included). Honestly, take a step back, have a glass of wine, put on some nice jazz, and then come back in a couple of hours and post something nice. I'll be looking for your post. Mike Mike, Are you serious? I'm should have a glass of wine, listen to some jazz, then write something nice? Quite frankly, the fact that you and other members of this forum lack the integrity to speak out against the use of derogatory ethnic terms is appalling! The very fact that you think it should be a matter to take lightly, is even more appalling. If you can't understand why myself and any other minority person would be angry, it truly speaks volumes. 4. Hmmmmnnnnnn...... I didn't know that Sensitivity, and Awareness were needed on an Audio Forum .... whadda I know anyways ... perhaps we should all watch Oprah ...?? If you are not intelligent enough to recognize and be offended by ethnic slurs when you read, hear, or see them, it speaks volumes about your character and others not willing to speak up against them. Klipsch out.
  5. Scoot, Paid around $1,300 for my first M117 in '78-'80.(?) Picked up the second one for $250.00 in '91. They are now switched to BTL mode at 700wpc into 8ohms. .003 THD I drive my ba*tard CW's with them. I call them "the poor-mans Mac". **** called them Mac Killers. (don't know about that part) Nice clean tube sound, 54lbs each, and much power. I love 'em. Tube front is icing on the cake. Deano also has used them. You might ask him. If they work and you don't want them, send me a pm. I will jump on them![][] Terry PS EDIT: Ran two DC300's, M117's - MUCH MORE horn friendly than the Crown's IMO. "**** called them Mac Killers." The lack of sensitivity and awareness found on this forum is just unbelievable. Klipsch out.
  6. Step right up ladies and gentlemen! http://cgi.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cl.pl?anlgcart&1161919879 Disclaimer: I have no affiliation with the seller, nor the product being sold. Klipsch out.
  7. Keep your eyes peeled to Audiogon. They do show up there, like this one already sold .http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?anlgtnrm&1163006433 Klipschc out.
  8. I would suggest adding the Expressimo Heavyweight to that tonearm. Klipsch out.
  9. Allan, I'm planning to attend this upcoming Yoshi's event, though not sure which date yet. CEDAR WALTON TRIO WITH SPECIAL GUESTS STEVE TURRE AND VINCENT HERRING NOVEMBER 8 NOVEMBER 12 Klipsch out.
  10. I thought it's suppose to be expensive here in the SF Bay area! Those are Texas sized admissions. Taj Mahal cost $24 at his last appearance at Yoshi's in Oakland, and due in again at the end of November, as most likely will be the cost for Eddie Palmieri the first week of December. BTW, who is performing this one, 11/3/06 I CANT STOP LOVING YOU/THE GENIUS OF RAY CHARLES 8:00 PM, $75. I know it won't be Ray Charles! [] Klipsch out.
  11. Another Happy Birthday wish to Sonny Rollins! Fortunately for me, KCSM radio spent time yesterday (his birthday), with an on-air tribute to Sonny with many selections. It really smoothed a long commute in Bay area traffic. The Sonny and Monk selections were particularly tasty. Klipsch out.
  12. The listing was removed. Bargain listings should never be taken for granted. I purchased my '89 Khorns for $700 from a local seller, (40 miles), here in the SF Bay area who posted them on Audiogon. There were minor cosmetic issues, but none that affected the sonics. Klipsch out.
  13. Allan, This is a complete surprise. I thought he was past the problems of prostate cancer, and had not heard that he was currently sick or with failing health. He was a tremendous musician, and a former SF resident. He will be missed. Klipsch out.
  14. I nominate this one as the "dumbest post ever!" Anyone else agree? You betcha! I already suggested he change his login from Dr Who to Dr What?. Klipsch out.
  15. Much of my listening is movies, but I do a fair amout of listening to classical music and operas, 40% I'd say. For that, I go back to PWK's goal of "Hearing a symphony in his livingroom". Before this thread, I've never heard anyone state their goal as "Hearing a symphony with the edges taken off in their livingroom" but that seems to be what some are saying. Some instruments will sound harsh at times. In most cases I have to assume that was the composer's intent, especially in opera where I'm watching a story unfold with the music. The queen of the night's high F in her aria is piercing, and I think that's how Mozart wrote it. 60% of your listening is movies! That explains things. Klipsch out.
  16. Yes you can. In fact, I'd go so far as to claim that the ear is absolutely required for true objective measurement. It can be no other way. The concept/process of choosing "which is better" is when things become subjective. It is fairly trivial to quantify the differences in non-linear behavior between all the different topologies. And it is all too apparent when you start comparing the differences between designs - where you can see how the designer is compensating for the specific flaws of the system. If I may make an observation...there seems to be a very consistent difference between SS and Tube topologies - the people on both sides claiming their compromised design is better. But I don't think it a stretch for everyone to agree that both designs (when implemented well) have very signature sounds. Like it wouldn't be very difficult to walk into a room and go "hey, that's a Tube/SS amp playing" (provided of course the acoustics are decent and the listener is familiar with the music and speakers). For what it's worth, I don't think any recording engineer would be caught dead with a BAT amp powering monitors in the studio...[] ................WHAT??? The Dr of bs has spoken again. Maybe you should change your login to Dr "WHAT???" It appears you have an overblown image of what you "think" you know. May I suggest you start with a better understanding of the word objective. expressing or dealing with facts or conditions as perceived without distortion by personal feelings, prejudices, or interpretations Klipsch out.
  17. oldbuckster, A couple of notes. 1. SET is a topology(circuit design), Single Ended Triode. VRD is a marketing brand of PP topology(circuit design), Push Pull. Both, Single Ended Triode and Push Pull circuits, can be researched on the web at www.google.com . 2. Your remarks are begining to resemble your avatar. I don't recall anyone saying the someone who chose solid state is "any less of a dedicated music collector, or equipment owner." Chill out. Klipsch out. LOOK if you are going to qoute me, use the whole qoute........using bits and pieces is not fair, and rather small on your part............... oldbuckster, I could have used all the words in your statement, but it seemed rather whiney to me, so I thought I'd save some of the yada-yada that led to that last exaggerated bit. As a person who drives a Porche, you "should" have some understanding that what the majority of people choose, may not meet your particular enthusiast performance needs. I will repeat, I really don't care what you choose to include as components in YOUR system. A little research outside this forum, and less defensive whining, will take you a long way. Klipsch out.

  19. Once past the "my dog is better than your dog", which is the remark you would prefer to hear from someone who just listened to your system? "The music sounds accurate!" or "The music sounds really nice!" DUH! Klipsch out.
  20. From the Disc Doctor's site; http://discdoc.com/ "The soft stylus brush we prefer for routine use is constructed from a 1/4" wide natural bristle artist's paintbrush. Break the handle off just behind the metal crimp band and trim the bristles to 1/8-1/4" high. We also construct a second piece, removing the middle third of the fibers allowing one arm to be wet with Stylus Cleaner or distilled water and the other arm dry. " Klipsch out.
  21. The Klipschorn, or Khorn, loudspeaker is the flagship product of Klipsch Audio Technologies. It is a patented design of founder Paul W Klipsch since 1947. The four-foot tall, three-foot wide home speaker is a three-way design: separate speaker drivers handle the bass, mid-range and high (treble) portions of the audible spectrum. These drivers are the woofer, the squawker and the tweeter. Two rectangular horn lens coupled to a magnetic compression driver handle the mid-range and treble. In addition to the two horns above, a 15 cone woofer rests in a folded bass bin compartment below. The folds extend the low bass response of the woofer. This is known as horn-loading. The body of the speaker cabinet forms a horn, an acoustic amplifier. The Khorn shape is like a baseball diamond: the pointy rear is open and exposed, the flat front covered with a wood panel and the top enclosed in cloth. The speaker sits in the corner of two adjoining walls, using the walls to extend the lowest bass notes. This design results in extremely high efficiency. One watt RMS produces a 104 decibel per meter sound pressure level (SPL) on the Khorn, which is approximately 18-20 decibels higher than conventional speakers. Such efficiency requires unusually low watts of power. Concert level volumes require only a few watts. Normal volume SPLs require milliwatts. The Khorn encourages the use of low powered tube amplifiers, or quality amplifiers, where the first milliwatts have low THD. ................ Klipsch out.
  22. Considering the original cost of the 507, the $700 is less than 1/3, so the price is OK. There are numerous positive reviews of this arm, and it should work on a non suspended high mass table. Setup and proper armboard drilling to mount the 507 could provide challenges, and additional expenditure. What armboard is currently on the table? I believe the normally delivered option for that table is their RB250. Klipsch out.
  23. Who would want to "hook" anything to a pair of those unless you're dragging them to the dump? Klipsch out.
  24. Gary, My sincere condolences to you and your family. Klipsch out.
  25. that is actually one of the only bad things about living in the bay area! Josh Josh, I'm not sure that even the bridges are a bad thing. (It's the 49ers that are a bridge away.) The basic point, besides not only having virtually every ethnic group in the known world, the availability of almost any product produced in the world, there are so many innovative people who create innovative, new, business models which benefit consumers. NYC may be the only place with "more" availability, but maybe less innovation. Klipsch out.
