Dunno what it is about Klipsch - but I've been attached to them for a long time now. Bought a pair of RP280FAs a couple of years and love them. But about a year or so ago discovered the heritage line and have been yearning to upgrade them.

Our space is an odd one - it's a studio apartment that has the place set up for home theater and listening to music (Amazon HD music streamed through Denon HEOS). I also have a record player / may get another one in the future.

Room is maybe 25 feet deep, and we sit about 10 feet away from the speakers right now.

I've been non stop thinking about which to get and after getting over wanting to buy used speakers - settled on the Forte IVs based on SteveHuff's review. I went through the whole - Yeah I can do the Klipschorns and then realizing that we don't exactly have 2 corners in which to place them, to then thinking oh the La Scalas - to realizing that they might be too big, to the Cornwalls and then even down to the Heresys.

Anyhow, throughout all of this I've still been randomly checking classifieds and a pair of La Scalas have popped up. 1978 Birch - all original - seemingly owned by a woodworker with some extra layers and a guard put on them. My concern with something that old is that I'm not exactly very handy when it comes to doing any upgrades etc and have no sense if such an old speaker would need refurbishment work.

I also found a pair of Klipschorns with recently replaced woofers - that I'm also thinking about.

So that sort of brings me to one of my first set of questions - just what should I be concerned about, look at when it comes to anything vintage like that? And has the sound changed considerably to the current ones (which based on everything I've read - it has?). Is there a place I should go to to read up about all of this?
    B

Otherwise, is going with the Forte IVs a better option - brand new - nothing to really worry about for a while yadda yadda?

Finally - if I am to upgrade my receiver (which I likely will) is something like a Denon 6700h or similar Marantz the appropriate choice? I do want to have height front and rear - currently I only have a 5.1.2 system.

Or should I keep my existing Denon for home theater viewing and get a dedicated amp for listening to music? And if so what would be a good one that can play streaming music?

Apologies for what is probably a whole host of questions - trying to be as clear while also being concise.

Thank you and I look forward to being here :)

Don't you buy Vintage to go for vintage sound?

    If not, then buy new.

For vintage sound, replace old crossovers with those specs and push play.

  2. It depends how how you "playback" both music and HT.

No Channel is more important than the center in HT and 5 Channel Sound.

I have my best speakers on the center position and the other speakers

really provide just sound effects and filler.

If you don't believe me, play anything and turn off the center.

I cannot see the point of spending thousands of dollars on mains

in a HT set up when they do not play the main sound track that

    is assigned to the center.

  3. I use 6 Towers in a 5.0 System.

Two Centers on each side of the fireplace running in Mono

running through a Crown XLS Drivecore 1502.

I have Klipsch RF 82II's as the mains.

The Mains are Not as Important as the Center.

The Best Speakers you have Should be in the Center Position.

Run a program in 5.1 and turn off The Center Channel.

Listen to What comes from the Mains.

    You might be surprised.

  4. I'm not crazy about the Center Channel since most of them

don't sound good as the mains.

My System sounds fine without a Center and the Speakers

Place everything, including Dialogue, where it should be.

That being said, I use Two Center Channel Speakers.

That thing looks gorgeous but it also looks waaaaay out of my budget. I didn’t even see a price for it but it looks every bit of 10k. My budget it about half that.

Also if I do tubes I’d rather have them in the pre-amp stage.

My PrimaLuna has HT Bypass. At least 3 of the PL's have this.

I use it in my HT with my Marantz.

Lots of good advice directly upstream ^^^.

My Marantz 6011 has a setting which addresses your exact quandary.  It purports to lesson or eliminate the LF going through walls.  I've never used that feature so I can't say how well it works.

I run an RC-64 III and some large L/R DIY horn loaded speakers, Titan LX-615.  An Emotiva XPA-5 (five channels 200 wpc) powers the L/C/R giving them 250 wpc.  I don't think it increases the bass but I do think it increases the dynamics, especially at higher SPL.

Do you need an external amp?  In your current listening environment with neighbors, probably not.  Would you enjoy an external amp?  Probably yes.

Pictured below:  12" Mid-bass Module pair, Umax 15 subs pair, Titan LX-15 speakers, RC-64 III, Marantz SR 6011, Emotiva XPA-5, far right Inuke 3000dsp pair.

I’m not currently running full range, so long as I have the sub. I have messed around with many different settings to no avail. I’ve got it near field already.

Get a Pre-Listen of the sound you're talking about.

If you're going to ditch the sub, go ahead and turn it off

and listen to what your system sounds like.

Give it a week or 2 then you'll know if you need to buy anything.

    Listen without the sub.

    Hello looking for some advice!

My living room is 13x16 with 9’ ceilings.

looking to buying the following for a 5.2.4 Dolby Atmos, Klipsch.
RP-6000F for the front, RP-500M for the rear, RP-504C for the center, CDT-5650-CII for the Atmos.

Would the Denon AVR-4700H power the RP-500C and the 4 CDT-5650-CII for the Atmos speakers ? And power the RP-6000F and RP-504C with and external amp?

What AVR receiver and AMP would you use? And how would you wire them both up?

Get The AVR first and use it.

You might not need another amp.

As far as speaker hook up, refer to owners manual.

As long as they have tone controls, or just a amps external in particular?

    Thanks!

    Well, I'm not an Expert.

I run all my amps through my Marantz AVR.

It has a Built in EQ and I'm Not Shy about using it.

I just remember some guy on here giving everyone hell

about Linear Amps and it doesn't make any difference what

you buy as long as it's Linear. It was Pretty Funny.

  10. From the Limited Time I've had them on, Very Neutral.

    Very Natural Sounding.

If my RF82 II's Sounded this good  I wouldn't have upgraded.
