  1. We have a 65" Panasonic plasma in our living room. My brother and I hung it and that thing had to be 200lbs. The weekend we hung it I was so sure I was going to come in and find it on the floor! All that said, the unit has a fabulous picture and maybe the best audio quality I have heard from any flat panel TV. The bass response from this unit is amazing. I have considered at times replacing it with a newer technology 70" or 80" but I cant let go of the audio quality. Not sure how Panasonc engineered the audio on these units but it is nothing short of amazing.
  2. Yes, I have been looking for an RC62 as well but my focus has been gettign the rears. Still thinking on 7.1 but at least I have the 5.1 minimum now to get started.
  3. Yes, going to keep my Carver/Sunfire True subwoofer....at least for now. My brother swears by Velodyne and they sound pretty impressive but I like the small size and big sound of the Sunfire.
  4. I just picked up a pair of RS62II's from a guy in TX so I guess I am all set for now. So I have a mint pair of RF-62 IV's, an RC-52 IV, and pair of RS-62 II's for right at $1k. I'll post the 7.1 question over on AVS before I pull the trigger on another pair of surrounds.
  5. That unit is tiny... 6. I emailed him as well offered to buy all four at asking price. He does not want to ship.
  7. The remodel continues on the media room space. I had to blank out a window and have most of the in-wall cables run. Am just about ready to hang the 70" Sharp LED screen as soon as I get some circuit protection in place. Once the TV is up, then electric screen install will follow. I did get chance to fire up the RF-62 IV's. As a first time Klipsch owner I am impressed and happy with the decision to purchase these. I used my garage amp (Sony STR-DE935) and was pleasanty surpised with how warm and full the sound was. Testing with some audio tracks from John Mayer's "Born and Raised" via my iPhone these have an impressive bass response, solid mid-range, and nice clear highs. I cannot possibly see any disappointment when I get these in a 5.1 configuration running bluray content. I am still looking for RS-62 surrounds and now am considering a 7.1 setup. The Denon AVR-5800 apparently supports it with built-in amplification for the added rears. Whats the concensus on 7.1? Is there enough DTS/ES content out there? How would this work with 5.1 content?
  8. That is a great looking set up. I know you prefer local lot sale and completely understand that. I could use a pair or possibly both pairs of RS-62's
  9. Still have these? Messaged you
  10. "Budget" is a relative term and I am pretty happy so far. I guess it depends on how critical you are of audio quality. One man's ceiling is another man's floor. Once I find surrounds I will probably have $1K in my first set of Klipsch boxes. It's an acquired taste. Like old cars....it's a journey and I think as I grow into it, so will my budget. For now I hope to be as happy with Reference IV's as you are with your system.
  11. Got my Reference IV speakers yesterday and all arrived in great shape. Thanks Billybob for posting. The RF-62 IV's are much heavier than I expected. The build quality looks very good on them and the RC-52 IV center. I thought I might have been a little trigger-happy at first but looking at these now at $400 shipped I feel pretty good about where I am so far. Of course I want to keep my Sunfire sub, but is there a real benefit in keeping everything else from the Reference IV line for a "tuned" setup? Still need to find a pair of RS-52's or RS-62's. Will post up pics later
  12. Nice hair too... Seriously though I like the Middle Atlantic RK series. I think its a black laminate but they sell thee rail kits for them. Unsure how they mount inside the cabinet. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Middle-Atlantic-Products-RK-Series-12-Rack-Spaces-12U-16-Deep-Rack-Black-/261753589493?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cf1bacef5 and rail kit http://www.ebay.com/itm/Middle-Atlantic-RK-RR12-12SP-21-Rail-Kit-for-RK-BRK-Racks-NIB-/171536631588?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27f0614724
  13. I too have heard great things about Oppo. Admittedly I have a slim PS3 that is my dedicated bluray movie and Netflix player. Compared to other players it's very speedy loading and ejecting discs. My Pioneer BDP-51FD (current firmware) is slow as Christmas. How does the Oppo fare for disc handling performance?
  14. Sorry, meant to say I am in Cedar Hill, TX about 25 miles south of Dallas. And yes, that goes without saying for any online purchase. I figured at $100/speaker + ship it would be a great starter setup and will buy me time while I check out more Klipsch products including older legacy and newest reference II equipment. I am a bit of a wheeler dealer and am fine with buying and reselling when I am ready to upgrade.
  15. Exactly what I wanted to know. Thanks for that. I am thinking RF-62 II's, RC-62 II and pair of RS-62 II or RS-52 II and the RB75's really sound like they would be a fit too for my fronts. And good advice too on listening before buying...sound is highly subjective and there is a Fryes in Arlington too far away. Think they would mind if I bring my amp? On a separate note, have the RF-62 II's dropped much in value? Just curious, I see a guy on eBay selling a decent used pair but he's asking about $50 more than they can be purchased and shipped new with warranty. Its not much more but curious how his are better than new or maybe he is tryig to recoup his investment?
  16. Rented Gone Girl with Ben Affleck last night. Rosamund Pike is a gorgeous actress but really shines as the psycho bi-polar wife.
  17. So budget aside, does the THX line eclipse the RF, RC and RS lines? Though not in abundance I do see them in the used market right around the price point of what I am shopping for. If I am really just paying for THX licensing, then I will stick with the reference products mentioned.
  18. I actually am a DIY fanatic and enjoy woodworking. The Crites boxes look like a fun project but truly, I am juggling a few projects right now and to take something like that on would delay the media room completion. From our dialogue I do have some target models identified now (thanks!) and I can narrow the scope and be more specific in my searches. I do enjoy the hunt but only up to a point where time is lost due to indecision. I still need to track down a short equipment rack and some surge protection. One model we didn't really discuss was the THX branded models like the KL-650-THX Ultra2 or the KS-525-THX surrounds. I respect the labeling and associate the THX brand with higher end equipment though admittedly, less so over the years. Any thoughts on the THX certified Klipsch boxes?
  19. Your reputation precedes you. I read the article about your Craiglslist adventures....very impressive
  20. Thats the kind of thing I am looking for. I was prepared to spend up to $1500 but I am still busy remodeling the space so I have time. Here is the RF-42 II setup I was talking about with the smaller towers. This one is not really a potential for me but is indicative of some of the market deals out there http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/ele/4864779935.html
  21. Thanks, I am in Cedar Hill, TX and shipping would likely be expensive though maybe I should get it quoted on my FedEx acct to know for sure. There is a RF42 II 5.1 set here local and the owner is asking $900. I assumed those drivers in the towers to be the smallest of the model line thought admittedly I have researched it. The 5.1 setup he has consists of a pair of RC-42 II's, pair of RB-41 II's, an RC-42 II, and the updated SW311 sub.
  22. The ceiling is typical sheetrock construction with no attic access. I am already committed to punching holes to pull AC, component and HDMI for the projector. I figured I would run audio cabling along the floor and tuck it in between the baseboard and carpet. On the subject of speaker types, as I have grown older I have mostly leaned towards the "less is more" mentality for the cleaner look. This project gives the me a chance to return to my roots, where big speakers were king and appreciated more for their function and less for the space they consumed. My brother had a pair of Altec-Lansing theater speakers. (I'll have to ask him about model numbers) The cabinets were as large as washing machines with a huge horn tweeter on top that you couild reach both arms in. He powered these with a Pilot 602 Stereophonic tubed amp. The house was pier and beam construction and you got a lot of vibration thru the wood floors in that room. Man I loved that!!!! But I digress.... I do love the copper cones and floor standing towers are growing on me. The engineer in me wonders if can get the same or close to the same sound field from a large RB series then I can with the RF-62's or RF-52's?
  23. Thanks guys. This loft is over our detached garage and will mainly be for movies. The other half of the loft will be an exercise area and the audio setup would provide music while working out. Both uses considered, maybe 50/50 but I really want the best cinema experience I can afford and am willing to sacrifice that over music quality. I have most of the equipment listed already and the $1500 budget is for speakers only but if you guys have some tricks where I can squeeze in an Epson 8350 in there let me know!
  24. Hello all I am remodeling our garage loft and am converting it to a media room. While I love the clean aesthetics of in-wall speakers I have opted to spare that expense and go with conventional external speakers that might offer more presence and mobility. I am a little new to Klipsch products but am a big fan of middle to high end audio. I have been lurking here a while and on AVS forums for several years and have a few questions I would like to field to you regarding budget choices for front, center, and rears. The application would mostly be for weekend movie nights. So far, the plan is this: 17'L x 21'W x 8' vaulted ceiling Walls are finished with typical insulation Denon AVR4800 or AVR5800 125 and 175 watts repectively Klipsch front, center and rear speakers models TBD Carver/Sunfire True Subwoofer Sharp Aquos 70" LED/LCD Dalite Senor Electro high gain screen Optoma HD 21 projector I would like to stay under $1500 and am not opposed to preowned equipment. I read an earlier recommendation for a combo of a pair of RF-62 II's, an RC-62 II center, and a pair of RS-42 II's or RS-52 II's for the rear. What would this setup cost me if I shopped hard on the used market? I have also read raving comments on the RB-75 bookshelf units? Towers are great but was wondering if the same sound quality can be acheived with bookshelf speakers half the height on stands? Appreciate any advice and direction you can offer.
