  1. Thread custody comes with the speakers! Updates wont come as fast and furious as when Matt had them, but I will update. I've never started a thread so don't want to break my streak. I only used my very first emoji, yesterday.
  2. Other than slow this project down, I have no plans set in stone. I have spare K77Ms, K55Ms, crossovers, even an unopened quart of duratex and a roller, so I have lots of options to muddle through. At this point, I plan to wash the current crossovers and then burn them. No matter which direction I go, it will be slow and fun. Matt needs to go get his original Scalas back from Kansas City now. (I hear that guy has two pair he is trying to move!)
  3. You missed my point on the free advice being worth every penny! I was saying it is easy to come by and worth as much as you paid for it! Do whatever you think will work for you. There have been many good suggestions, you just need to pick one and go. I like Jim's idea of slow down and figure it out but now you have added the new dimension of time is of the essence. My last bit of "free advice" is: buy a bigger house and keep all of the speakers!
  4. Hard to give good advice when you don't know what you want to do with them. With this much damage to the wood, a clear coat or stain or coat of paint wont hide enough of the damage. These pigs need several applications of lipstick and possibly some perfume as well. The hard work you have done so far will look best with the Duratex finish that will hide most of the problem areas and will give you at least one style that looks finished. A style many find desirable.($36 @ PE including roller) A frat house did this to them and another frat house would be excited to get a functional road ready pair. There are plenty of frats in Columbia! If you want to take it a step further, bring them to my shop and we can wrap the perimeter in aluminum in less than an hour. Man cave (frat) approved look. Just trying to find more work for you since you flew through the first 20 stages of this process. All of this free advice is worth every penny!
  5. Black Duratex. Hides many sins, looks sharp to me for this type of speaker, not living room furniture. Jim's look great, follow his lead. Like DizR, I have used on boomboxes and liked the result. I think the next owner would be looking for this type of finish. Unfinished will look like you gave up and then you would only get low ball offers. Just my opinion.
  6. I have a pair of AB x overs you can use to test out your new find. They are not highly sought after and are designed for Belles but would work just fine for what your after at this point. They were fully functional nine months ago when I upgraded. Let me know, I'll send em to ya.
  7. First step is admitting you have a problem. Not sure what the second step is! (never got past step 1)
  8. Going and looking is one thing, bringing them back with you is an entirely different story. I wont step on his thread, but wait for it! Gotta love his enthusiasm!
  9. May be time for an intervention. Matt has gone over the edge. No one hear knows the cure, he will have to seek help elsewhere.
  10. I finally have a good reason to be happy about the Cubs beating the Cardinals. Keep up the positive attitude, it will greatly help your cause. Glad to hear your speakers were an easy (inexpensive) fix!
  11. Any progress on the grills? If it weren't for your German Shepherds, I would say leave 'em the way they are.
  12. it is worth $250 just to tell people they came from an Arthur Murray dance studio! That will impress people.
  13. did you unload the old cabinets? I don't see them on craigslist anymore!
  14. Don't forget the added bonus of a free pair of empty Chorus cabinets with subwoofer purchase!! Act now!!!
  15. I'm jealous too! They leave here tomorrow and I don't even get to hear them when they are hooked up! At least they are going to a good home.
  16. Don't underestimate Matt's input. These are plywood boxes right now. A long way from pretty. He has sanding and finishing and rewiring to do. Me, I'd slap a coat of Duratex on them and call it done. Getting them to what Matt is looking for is hard work.
  17. you are absolutely right, I apologize, I will not use it anymore. In my defense, I only used the cnc for the motorboard.
  18. If on a tighter budget, the more economical KSB 1.1 (5 1/4") or 2.1 (6 1/2") hold their own and can be picked up cheaply. Sound is not bad at all. Haven't been made in 15 years but still have life in them. I am listening to 1.1's right now in my office.
  19. no Cubs fan here, just an observation that a miracle may be in the works. Go Cards!!
  20. Cubs are going to make the playoffs, one step closer to a second miracle. As far "sir", I believe in this case it is due to age. I got about 20+ on Matt.
  21. I can do that, not sure how to post it, but can take the video.
  22. Will you use the same bit? Sorry, I'm CNC knowledge challenged. Normally switch between metal and wood without changing the bits. I will probably put a new one in for these cuts as Matt is looking for "pretty". A bit that hasn't cut any metal yet will give a slightly cleaner cut. Sometimes switch to an MW bit which doesn't "burn" the wood as much. This table has a tool changer so I can switch on the fly, (kinda cool). The drivers are recessed on the Chorus (different depths for the woofer vs the mid and tweet) so there needs to be some dados that will use different bits.
