Hi,
Here is my current setup. I'm trying to add audio to my current setup. Basement is L shaped open setup, the current room is 16*20. Please advice.
I have the following
Epson 4050 4k Home Cinema Projector
100 inch screen
Onkyo receiver (5.1) -> old needs to be updated
Energy 5.1 Speaker --> old needs to be updated.
Tile ceiling.
What i'm looking for
A good receiver 9.2 or higher.
2 floor standing speaker --> RP 8000f
2 surround speaker --> RP 600M
2 ceiling speaker --> CDT 3800 C II
1 Center speaker --> RP 404 C
Sub woofer --> SPL-120 12" (do i need 150 ?? or dual subs)
Receiver --> Denon 9.2 or Marantz 9.2
I will throw in my opinion on the receiver, go Marantz. I currently use the SR7012 and it works great with my Forte III. I do 5.2.4 and it works great for atmos ect too. Its the second Marantz receiver Ive owned and never had an issue.

My very simple 2 cents for a big improvement. Get a tubed preamp and a nice powerful ss amp. Problem solved.

I have the k402 with similar jbl lowers (dual 18") and sound is phenomenal. If these are anything close its the best deal you will find on something close to a jubile

Out of the choices listed my recommendation is the Parasound by a large margin.

I would recommend go with whatever ends up sounding good to your ears. I would highly recommend biamping with a ss amp for your lowers and tube amp for you uppers.

I have the exact same speakers as my mains in the living room. Absolutely awesome sounding AND looking. This is a crazy good price for these. GLWYS

Imho flat IS NOT best at all. Flat is perfect to start from then flavor to your liking.

Get a 4080 and be done. Great rig! Use it on my Jubes

Tatent!!! Me too!! Lol love Skyrim! Im a heavy armor stealth assassin. But I digress, if you REALLY want to video game go with PC

Just FYI no tinkering needed with the C2600. Its ready to go out of the box, and McIntosh is super conservative and their specs these tubes will last forever. You get the tube sound with none of the hassles. Connect it to a nice SS amp and you are winning all day

I LIKED my P6 but I LOVE my McIntosh C2600

Its been a great read, some varying opinions, and from my own experience, finally swapping amps yesterday, I've heard a pretty significant improvement.
Not a fair comparison by any means, but having read about low powered valve amps and Klipsch speakers I purchased a 6 watt amp and some quality KT88s a few months ago. Whilst it sounded good, it never completely satisfied me. The issue I believe to be was headroom, and whilst it sounded great with acoustic music, anything remotely more difficult generated a little distortion and more complex music sounded very muddied. An old SS 80w receiver returned and the bass had a lot more depth and control, 70s and 80s heavy rock was listenable again.
I'm listening at the same volume, but I believe it was too much for the flea watt amp. The room is 20x35ft and I listen 15ft away.
I'm still not sure that I would hear a difference between 2 amps of the same power output though, but in time I will try.
I think this gets to the heart of the issue with Klipsch speakers (imo) they all should be biamped with active crossovers. A tube amp for uppers and SS for lowers. The low powered tube amps just cant push enough on the lowers. OR get a high powered tube amp like the MC275 and problem solved. The issue most of us run into is one of $$$ and time to tweak on equipment to get the best sound. So we all end up making compromises....until you dont (ie actively crossed Jubilee with low watt tube upper and ss lowers) 😜

I met Saul Marantz in 1976 when he was President of Dahlquist. He did a demo for me and told me to always use solid state on the bass and tubes only on the midbass/mid/highs.
Also when PWK measured lower Intermodulation Distortion on his BGW 100 and Crown D60, he switched to Solid State. This is what I heard at his house after a shot of Glenlivet and he put on his symphony recordings for me, which were made with only 2 spaced Omni Microphones. It sounded wonderful with his Khorns out of the room corners!
This is so true. My entire audio journey I always had upgraditis. Once I moved to K402 on top of dual 18" direct radiator jbl lowers with ss on the lowers and tube amp on the k402 i have had ZERO desire to change anything. This is audio nirvana for me (ymmv)

Haha ok not quite that kind of money. I'm thinking more along the line of $3k-3500 all in.
But I'd be lying if I said I haven't been looking at the Mc page here lately lol. I do want American made (assembled) electronics. Which is why I've been looking at Schiit so closely. I thought I had my mind made up until it came to my attention that they have a new and more powerful class A monoblock amp on the way (Tyr). So now I'm kinda waiting on that to be officially revealed.
I do want a Freya+ pre though.
Was thinking about the schiit ageir for my uppers until i came across this custom made tube amp for about the same price. Ill have to check out the tyr.

I'd like to hear about some of the tube amps you've heard with all this distortion?
You are assuming distortion means it sounds bad? Distortion for tubes (in my experience) causes a warm lush sound. I love it, some people hate it.

And dont forget that good sounding is subjective to each pair of ears. I went from a parasound amp on my uppers for my jubilees to a hand made tube amp and the difference was immense. From clean clinical/sterile to warm full and lush.

Granted i have jubensteins, i have the stock k402 horn and driver but i am using a dual 18" jbl lowers. Xillica 4080 active crossover. I have a custom handmade tube amp for the uppers and a crown amp for the lowers. And honestly I have chronic upgraditis and i havent wanted to change anything on this setup. Everytime i think i want to upgrade i go into my listening room and immediately lose the urge. If you dont go with a jubilee i would highly recommend the switch to a xillica active crossover. After room treatments its the most significant improvement you can make to any speaker.
-
Personally not even close if the jubilees are active crossovers. My buddy has very nice khorns and they are great. But my jubilees sound better in every possible way. Only difference is waf towards the khorns
-
Practice a little deferred gratification, save up more $$, buy a xillica that fits your needs, enjoy the most significant improvement in sound you can invest in.

I used the minidsp. It was great except the very high noise floor that is obnoxious on high sensitivity speakers…
