  1. I’m sitting at a stereo shop listening to the EVO 4 now on Heresy IV. I have Khorns and LaScalas at home, and it sounds great on the Heresys. I bet they’ll sound incredible on LaScalas. I also wonder if EVO 300 would be enough. I also have an appointment to check out a used Dialogue Premium HP tomorrow. Would the EVO 400 be any sort of upgrade In sound? It’s definitely less money. 2. Simply Stereo in Hoffman Estates (N.W. Chicago burbs) has all the Heritage line and able to demo. I went there and heard the Cornwall IV's a few months ago. I was really impressed.

Not so much with the Heresy lV's though.....but they were in a different room, different amp etc....

That store is the reason I began my Klipsch journey. I sampled Khorns, LaScalas and Cornwalls. I need to get back there to listen to the CWIV.

Ha! I follow a lot of threads, but don’t post a whole lot. There is a ton I haven’t heard and I reference back to this thread quite often for new music.

  4. This is a local band from the Chicago area who has made some great records over the years. This new one of theirs has the sound of early Black Crowes, early Faces, and the Rolling Stones from the Tattoo You era. Check them out, they are a really good rock band.

It is technically better to get someone experienced, to  re wire the driver tube sockets, soldered connections, rather than adding a second set of plug-in connections.  You will find there are MANY excellent 12AX7 types , and each has a different character.  I suggest you permanently have someone carefully and neatly rewire the tube sockets.  " Double" tube socket connections, whenever using adapters, is a trade-off between convenience and it trades off sonics...it is sonic degrade.

What sort of analogy can I give, that is readily understandable - on a gut level ???    I got it !  Adapters is like a guy using two condoms.

    Jeff

That’s an pretty funny analogy. I understand what you are saying.

I ordered the socket adaptors awhile ago and they won’t be delivered until July!

So I’ll ask you this. Is it going to cost me as much as I paid for this tube amp (under $400) to re-wire driver tube sockets? I have no idea what doing this would cost, and would it be worth such a cost to upgrade an inexpensive (relatively speaking for a new) tube integrated?

    I appreciate the advice!

  6. Well right now I have the amp section out to vintage La Scalas and H4s, and the sound quality is terrific.  I've had 730s and 930s out to the entire Heritage line and I have not been disappointed in any combination.  Have a 930 out to the original Super Heresy pair and the imaging is fantastic.  When volume matched to my Khorns/LS2/LS1 it''s pretty special.

If you don’t mind me asking, what pre are you using with the HK amp section on your LaScalas?
  7. Hey Drewg.  What a great offer.  We're close too, I'm in De Kalb/Sycamore.  How do you feel about the 430 vs 730?  Do you hear much difference between the two?  Are most people running these stock or does a rebuild seem justified?  Hope we can work something out Drewg.  Thanks for jumping in.  dwillie.

    I’ll send you a PM.

    Lolololololol Omg ikr??

I had to ask my daughters what ILYSM meant. In case it’s not obvious, lol, it means “I love you so much”. They have acronyms for everything!

  9. I have  no personal experience with them,  but some have suggested replacing the Chinese 6N2 with the Russian military equivalent 6N2P-ev with good results.  Widely available on eBay or  other sources for modest $.

    Thank you@hanksjim1!
  10. Let me share my experience so far. The 5z4p rectifier is for the power supply side and is not really in the direct audio stream, if it's defective it could introduce noise into both channels but unlikely, so rolling those isn't going to do much for you. You might want to get some spares for backup just in case. I went with the originals they're cheap on eBay.

The 6n2's are a bit of problem, they sound just fine but there are really no substitutes available for rolling, for that you'll need to go with 12xa7 variants, to use those tubes you will either have to rewire the tube sockets or get an adapter. You can find the adapters on eBay also. I got some JJ ECC83s and these are a definite improvement on the originals, they give more detail and space to the music that I listen to, which is mostly small jazz combos and chamber music.

The original output tubes are not bad at all but so far I've rolled JJ kt-77's and Mullard el34's into the mix. I've experimented with almost all the possible combinations and I like the ECC83s with the Mullards the best. The ECC83s play really well with the Shuguangs also.

With rock music the kt-77's might be better, they're more aggressive and have a little more bass.

I got everything from Amazon and eBay.
@wetowne this is extremely helpful and gives me direction. Thank you!

If I may ask a favor, would you provide a link to the adapter I should use with 12ax7 tubes? Is this something that I simply plug in to the tube socket, and the new tube goes into the holes on the other side of the adapter? Is it that simple?
  11. I’m really enjoying my first tube amp, this Reisong Boyuu A10. I am new to tubes, and really enjoying this unit with my LaScalas.

I wanted to inquire about tube rolling. The tubes that come with these are:

    5Z4P x 1

    EL34 x 2 - stock tubes are Shuguang el34Bs

    6N2 x 2

The stock tubes sound really good, so I’m in no hurry to tube roll. I just want to order some tubes to have on hand as well as to test different combinations.

I mainly listen to rock/classic rock music, if that helps.

Also, where are the best stores to order from? Any info is very much appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Andy
