  1. I absolutely love stories like this! Many have heard about my best buy experience which was before I bought my first heritage speaker. I've told it before but I'll tell it again. I was thinking of redoing my home theater which at the time consisted of JBL S310's which weren't bad and I always wanted to try Klipsch's bigger offerings after hearing the Pro Media's and a Home theater in a box system my brother had by them which was very impressive. Anyway I went into Bestbuy and asked what they thought of Klipsch and the guy in the magnolia theater said honestly I think there overpriced garbage. He said come here let me show you some better stuff so he proceeded to show me speakers by Bower and Wilkins, Bang and Olufson, Martin Logan and honestly I wasn't all that impressed because it really didn't sound any better than what I had at home already. Now this was before I had ever even heard a Klipsch Heritage speaker remember. So I told the guy I had to think more and left. Fast forward a while later I found the Chorus's on Craigslist. I didn't know anything about the speakers or that they were even part of the Heritage line, I just knew they looked badass and had the Klipsch name that I loved. I ended up buying them without even testing them out first due to a misunderstanding between me and the guy I bought them from. When I got them home I hooked them up and threw on one of my test songs and honestly I was absolutely 100% in love and have never looked back since! I was so amazed at what I was hearing. When I turned up the volume everyone in my house ran to my theater room and could not believe the sound they were hearing! I literally wanted to go back to bestbuy and tell the people at that magnolia theater they should be ashamed of themselves! Needless to say I have not looked back since! It's funny speaking of McIntosh I was looking at AVR's a while ago and found a local dealer that sold McIntosh so I called to inquire about pricing and he was telling me he had them hooked to some Bower and Wilkins and swore if I came down to listen he guarantee's that I've never heard anything as good. I guarantee my K-horns blow whatever he had out of the water!
  2. That thing is amazing but the only way I'd be able to use something that big is if I put my TV on top of it and had it be right front center.
  3. I'm looking into the website. Does this person actually build the subs for you, or they send the plans and you build? It looks like they send you the plan and you need to build.
  4. I have tried numerous locations and where they are now definitely seems to be the best, as well as from what I have read online about subwoofer placement but I have never messed with the delays. Hmm, I have to admit I'm not that advanced when it comes to that kind of stuff so I probably wouldn't know where to start.
  5. Ya the more I think about it, I think the orbital shifter is the one I may go with.
  6. Ya, I considered the S2's as well. I noticed they are a lot smaller which being someone that used to deal a lot with car audio and subwoofer boxes I know sealed usually does have much less CU FT for the box. I'm pretty sure I've narrowed it down to either the orbital shifters and the S2's. I'm gonna try to see if JTR would give any sort of a discount for buying 2. I tried calling them but no answer, I just realized that's probably due to Martin Luther King day., they might be closed.
  7. The orbital shifter is horn loaded. Are you saying that would be a better choice?
  8. Idk truthfully I'd probably rather just buy something built unless I found someone that was really reputable locally.
  9. You think the orbital shifter would have more bass output than the 218ht?
  10. Nope it would be right out in the open. I think they look real badass honestly. I'm just kinda torn between the 218ht and the s2 the s2 is sealed. Which do you think would be better for theater application?
  11. Ya I'm not really into the DIY I was never really good at stuff like that honestly unless it's computers lol then I can build pretty much anything. I think I might give the jtr's a shot. They offer a 5 year warranty on their amps I'm pretty sure I read.
  12. Ya, I would change them to small. I am running K-horns and have them set to small. Between small and large I have never noticed a difference. Some AVR's though, including Pioneer if I remember correctly will send the full frequency spectrum to the mains if you set them to large which isn't necesarilly bad when listening to music but if you throw a bluray on, especially one with heavy bass scenes they can send very loud extremely low frequencies to the mains which can damage them. My brother actually blew his mains doing this by accident. Also, setting them to small will leave the AVR's amp open to focusing on the higher frequencies. The lower frequencies are much more taxing on the amp which is why subs have built in amps.
  13. This is a good question. I have never experienced tube amps or any of those other very low wattage amps but the other day I was talking to a guy that was trying to sell me a McIntosh amp and when I told him what speakers I have he said well ya you could run those with 5 watts but with those lower wattage tube amps your not gonna get any of the detail you would with these high powered amps. As I said I've never heard the lower powered so I can't say if that's true or not but it made me wonder because that's not the first time I've heard that.
  14. Extremely gorgeous setup! I always loved the look of those RF-7ii's in fact I actually like those better than the new ones! I think the full wood veneer is a lot nicer than putting that plastic in the front.
  15. I only have 2 15's at the moment but yes it is Bluray's where I feel it is lacking a bit. For music it's fine in fact for music I usually turn the sub's off and just let the K-horns produce the bass. For instance with something like Deadpool with heavy impact scenes I have to admit it does leave me wanting more, even if I turn the sub level up on the AVR it doesn't seem to do anything after a certain point and I am guessing that's because the sub's auto clipping limiter has kicked in which I would assume to be the case because looking at it even all the way from the listening area you can see it's excursion rate is extremely high.
  16. I am selling a Marantz SR5011 AVR in absolutely MINT condition. Comes with remote which is also mint as well as audyssey mic and stand. I do not have box because of excess clutter in the house but I still have the box to my Emotiva XMC-1 which I wouldn't mint using to transport this. In fact it's sitting in it right now. There is nothing at all wrong with this AVR and I only used it for less than a year. In fact it has a Best Buy geek squad 4 year protection plan on it that I spent 100 dollars on. I am not sure if that's transferable but I look into it. The only reason I am selling it is because I didn't really care for the sound it produced with my K-horns or my La Scala's for that matter. I think they both sounded better with the Pioneer I had before it but I know many people here like Marantz and it was a good product. Just some things I didn't care for like for one, the GUI doesn't work when running it in 4k so then you have to rely on it's tiny screen which you can barely see. Haha after reading this post I doubt anyone will buy this thing, I am making it sound like I hated it but I am going to be honest about my impressions on it, especially here where I consider myself to be among friends. So I am asking 500 or best offer. I paid over 1k for it but that was including extended warranty which as I said I will see if I can transfer to new owner. Mint condition, never been smoked around, no children or pets and it was pretty much always run with an external amp. I'm located in West Hartford CT and would really rather not ship but I guess I'd consider it. I would need to look into the cost.
  17. I've lately been thinking of perhaps upgrading my subs. I do love them and think for the price they can't be beat but when watching Bluray's they seem to have trouble keeping up with the rest of my system. First I was looking into SVS because that new PB-16 ultra does look incredible but the more research I do I am leaning towards JTR subs, mainly either the Captivator s2's or Captivator 218HT's. I would most likely get 2. What do you guys think? I was speaking with the guy from JTR and he said one of those 218HT's would have as much output as about 4 of my current subs. Again, this is not to say I think the Klipsch subs are bad, I just don't necessarily think there on the same level as the rest of the system.
  18. I'm guessing everyone here would probably agree that JRT sub's would probably blow SVS out of the water?
  19. It's funny someone posted a bash about Bose on the Klipsch owners group on facebook and I have to say I know they do make some garbage and overpriced products but I was at a concert a couple months ago and happened to notice the speakers were all Bose and to be honest it was the best sounding concert I had ever been to. I think Bose professional equipment might actually be good. I looked up there Pro gear and they do have some nice stuff, some even horn loaded.
  20. I had this issue a couple months back, trying to run a velodyne and a klipsch at the same time, in the end I ended up selling the velodyne and getting another Klipsch. As other's have said it is far easier to just run two that are the same brand/model.
  21. Just watching a CES video and that thing is a pure monster! What do you guys think of it? I have no experience with SVS so I really couldn't say. What is everyones opinion on SVS in general? I hear a lot of mixed things, some say over hyped some say they are incredible.
  22. I have both of mine connected to a surge protector. I think that's usually the safest way to go, especially if you have a surge protector with a power cleaner your gonna definitely wanna plug all the audio equipment into that.
