  1. I'm sure I definitely needed those and another circuit project to add to the todo pile... Any idea what might have caused them to fry the guy's speaker? Think it's that piece of metal on the right one in the last picture that's bent into the resistors shorting something out?
  2. Unfortunately, I was the runner up on those so it was not me.
  3. Well that was just too much good stuff to too close to not throw my hat into the ring. Also pretty sure I see at least 4 LaScalas in there. I wouldn't be opposed to splitting this haul with someone either.
  4. I would really like build a set of covers for them, especially since the cabinets are in pretty rough shape. I am just getting in to wood working, so I don't really trust my skills for doing anything to cabinets, at least not yet since I wouldn't touch these until I'm 100% sure I know what I'm doing (could be never then haha). I think I could tackle building a new cover for the fronts and sides though. Any advice on how to build them, know of where to find materials (cloth materials in particular), or have any detailed pictures or dimensions for their proper construction? I'd also like to reproduce the logo plates since I'd guess finding a few of those loose in wild will be about just as easy as finding more Shorthorns. Any suggestions on getting those reproduced would be a big help as well! I just demoed them before going to bed and they still sound amazing even with them just being on furniture dollies in the middle of room and turned down way to as to not disturb the neighbors at sleeping hours. I think I'm going to see how they sound at a good volume right after this 😁
  5. I am. Just got them home and am very excited to get these up and running!
  6. Those are extremely cool and I'm very interested in them! I've sent a PM.
  7. Wow, they must have survived 40 years of constant teenager abuse then. Fortunately I got quite a good deal on them, enough so that it would still be worth it if I needed to replace the woofers.
  8. They'll need a lot of elbow grease haha. They were apparently used in a public high school, so I doubt they've ever experience any kind treatment in their lives.
  9. I just acquired a well worn set of LaScalas with the same crossovers as my Klipschorns (Type AA) so now I have 4 channels to work with. I am thinking of using one of the LaScalas as the center so I would need to find a use for the other (any ideas?). My receiver doesn't support 6 channels otherwise I would do a 6.1.4 configuration with it. I will eventually plan on refinishing these, but I need to practice my wood working skills on something less important first. What would be a good pairing for the rears and sides? My room is only about 13 feet wide so I don't think I could do full LaScalas surrounds. I will be installing some CDT-3800-C II's in the ceiling for the heights since the the room is only 7 feet tall and is definitely way too short for mounting some heritage speakers to it. If necessary, I can move the home theater to the living room which has much more space, but not sure how the acoustics will behave with the vaulted ceilings and no wall going into the dining room on one side.
  10. In my case that is incorrect. I am currently getting freight shipping quotes and figured I'd throw it out here as well just to see if anyone was heading in this direction already. The seller doesn't want to deal with shipping so I will likely have to find a service that will pack it as well. I am not accustomed to blind shipping these kind of large items, so this just seemed like much less of a headache than going through that process.
  11. Anyone travelling through Oklahoma to Denver? I have a pair of LaScalas that I need to find a way to get here. I don't mind covering the gas on that leg of the trip either. Speakers are in Wagoner, OK.
  12. Well, I've still have all my Klipsch upgrade cascades starting from the beginning (Promedia 5.1 --> Synergy 5.1 --> Reference II 7.1 --> RF7 IIs 7.1.4) so it wouldn't be too much of a difference to keep the RF7 IIs around. I probably do need to start finding new homes for some of those older systems, I'm just not very good finding people who want large speaker systems. I did just acquire a set of 1976 Khorns and I'm talking with the seller to possibly get his Phase Linear 400 amp as well to drive it. I'm definitely going to have to get something more special to drive these other than a home theater receiver, but am pretty new to this aspect of speaker usage and could use some pointers. If it comes down to it, I do have places where I can dedicate a room for movies and another for 2 channel listening.
  13. Is it the same with La Scalas? Everything I've heard is those are amazing for home theater and I thought that most of those I've seen were vintage heritage speakers. I can't afford a new set of heritage series for a 7.1 system. Not that I would absolutely love to do that, but it's like a high end home theater per speaker price wise. Good to know about what to expect with the Klipschorns since I'm getting the set currently on the garage sale page. I'll just have to use them for a dedicated music room if they don't sound right connected to the home theater! Super excited for those! I've dreamed of getting a pair since hooking up my first Klipsch speakers (Promedias) to my computer 20 years ago!
  14. Just talked with my family and they can pick the speakers up tomorrow! Let me know if that works for you.
  15. How far from Vegas? I might be able to convince family there to pick em up for me. Would you please send the other pictures so I can get a look at them?
  16. I am very interested in the Belles and I have family in Vegas who could hold them for me until I can arrange to get them to where I am. Are they still available?
  17. Thank you everyone for the replies! I only needed the slightest nudge to get pushed over the heritage ledge and now I'm solidly on the other side. Is there anywhere I could trade in my old reference speakers for Heritage stuff since that would make the easiest way of accomplishing this upgrade? I've seen in the past some musician grade La Scalas that are generally pretty beat up. Is there any noticeable difference in the sound for those? Would Belles be a good starting point or should I focus on La Scalas since Belles are a bit more difficult to find? My family lives is Vegas so I could start off with the ones on the garage sale forum that FalconXXXX has listed here:
  18. I was kinda hoping for a "you won't notice a difference", but now looks like I will have no choice but to search for some upgrades haha. Thanks for your insight on this.
  19. Ever since getting my RF7-II setup, I've always wondered if I should have gone with some vintage La Scalas and/or Belles instead, perhaps even Klipschorns for fronts if I could find a decent set for a good price. My primary use case will be for home theater, but I will still use them for music fairly often as well. My current setup is 4x RF7-IIs for front and rears, RC64-II for the center, and RS62-IIs as surrounds. I have height channels as well, but you can't really put La Scalas in the ceiling... right? Would it be worthwhile to switch out the RF7-IIs and RC64-II for some combination of vintage Heritage speakers? If so, would I want to make sure they're all the same type of speaker, or can those be mixed and matched fairly well? The rear RF7-IIs were pieced together from different individual speakers, so they not only don't match my fronts (Cherry) but don't even match each other (Black and Walnut). They also have some pretty good dents in the corners of the cabinets, but they sound fine. I don't really mind though, especially since I got them for a pretty good price at the time.
  20. Haha don't temp me! But in all seriousness, the RF82's (which I'll probably go with) are much more speaker than I thought I'd be going with for the rears, plus more RF7's are way out of my budget. I do want to go with some Atmos speakers eventually(or sooner haha), but I'll thinking I'll wait at least one more generation of AVRs for 7.2.4 systems to hopefully come down a bit. I'll be giving up my Bi-amp from my x2000 once I get the rears. I'm wonder if I'll notice any drop in performance on the RF7's once that happens.
  21. Ah, alright. It's probably more practical doing it that way with my room setup. So, do I go with the 62's (same size woofers as the sprayers) or the 82's (bigger is better?) ?
  22. So finding a set of RB II's is proving difficult. However, There are a few RF62 II's and RF82 II's still floating around. Would the towers work well and which ones should I go with (62 or 82)? I'd probably put them on the sides and move the RS62's to the rear. Also I picked up a R12SW cause why not
  23. Agree. The Force Awakens had a tremendous mix on Blu-ray. Dialog was super clear (better than at the theater) and the music was dynamic, matching the action and had plenty of low end grunt for those of you who live for that stuff. Huh, I've watched The Force Awakens on streaming format and thought it sounded terrible, maybe they just botched the DD+ mix. The blasters and TIE fighters were almost silent and all I could hear was music out the LR channels. Dialog was super clear though. I watched it on 2 separate systems and noticed the same thing. Maybe I need to pick up the Blu-ray copy (I was holding out for the 3d version).
  24. Of course I want to add a better sub! I currently have a Ksub 10. I live in an apartment so no sub upgrade until I'm in a house.
