What he said...  ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^  New risers from Crites for $50 and eliminate the stands...  Check them out before you load them up and you'll enjoy the sound.  I picked up a pair and it's kinda fun going from the LS to the Heresy just for a different sound.  Price is fair also imo but what do I know it's your $$$...  lolol

Dave1290 and I seem to be in parallel universes. And it sounds good!

Heresy’s hooked me decades ago. Had Heresy 1’s and 2’s, prefer the 2’s... sold ‘em all years ago.

In the last year LaScalas have ruined me for most other speakers.

A few weeks ago I sold my LaScalas to make room to refurb a pair of LSI Splits I found in need of some TLC.

Almost as soon as I sold them a pair of Heresy 2’s came up for $300 bucks, not nearly as nice as the ones listed above, but I pulled the trigger on them.

I still own Cornwalls, Chorus IIs and Tangent 5000s for comparison.

Honestly, the Heresy 2’s (2nd pair I have owned) and a tight sub are nothing to sneeze at. Elevated to ear level, in my case about three feet off the ground, they are as revealing as any Klipsch I have owned. And you can move them around easily! Easy to share, lol.

And as mentioned above, you can ALWAYS sell them for what you paid. The cat is out of the bag on the Klipsch gateway drug known as Heresy!

I don’t think you can go wrong with those Heresy II’s.

Any update in these? Did you stay passive? Ever record with REW?

    Uncanny!

I stayed passive... but I did buy an Ashly Protea 3.6, as yet unused, ...and a pair of LaScalas...

Guess what dropped off the radar? Lol

I sold the LaScalas once I found a pair of Industrial LaScala Splits that need some TLC, and a pair of Peavey FH-1 bins to compare once refurbed with K-33-E’s instead of the Black Widows... And that is where I am at right this minute!

In amongst all this I sniped a pair of KP-320 (two-way) crossovers to try on the Cornscalas before the K-510’s take a ride on a LaScala bass bin.

The KP-320 looks to me like the precursor of the “Cornscala”, and it crosses at 800hz.

Got to get my LSI Splits on line...

A pair of Heresy 2’s and a Boston Acoustics XB-6 sub are tiding me over for now, but I am jonesing for my LaScalas!

  3. Cornwall II

UNLESS your plan down the road is too make it part of 5.1 or some such system with LaScalas or Khorns... then all your tweeters and drivers (K-77 and K-55) will have the same “timbre” using Cornwall 1’s.

The horns AND drivers are different in the two models. Not better or worse, just different. The mounting of the horns and drivers is different too. Flush mounted (CW2) as opposed to behind the motorboard (CW1).

I have owned four different pairs of Cornwalls over the years and still have a pair of ‘85’s (last year of the CW1’s) in the bedroom.

The difference sound-wise between the last few years of the CW1 and the CW2 are pretty negligible due to the (I think) better crossver (B-3) in the last few years of the CW1.

I prefer flush-mounted drivers over those behind the motorboard (as with the CW1), but with the grilles on it lessens the sonic benefits of flush mounted. Grilles are for aesthetics...

Listen to them both if you can and go with YOUR ears.

  4. To the original poster: I might be inclined to hold on to those...

If you have ever heard LaScalas with decent source equipment they are hard to live without.

This is a very timely post as I just sold my ‘92 LS to free up room for a pair of Indusrial LaScala Splits in the process of being refurbished.

I don’t think you could make the bins for your asking price, and it would take a lot of time and efforrt if you could.

I haven’t got the tops running yet but I have two sets of bins for comparison - Peavey FH-1’s with K-33-E’s and LSI’s with K-43’s. I have finished these first as they are the base everything else sits upon. They are airtight now. People drilling holes in the doghouse for casters and wiring... sheesh!

Guess what!? They both sound like crap without the upper frequencies!

And once again, this is using the same equipment that the 92 LaScalas sounded so wonderful on.

  5. How would you terminate the woofers on something like this, if you were just running the bass bins with a separate pair of speakers on top (like shown)?

I googled something about a coil in series with the woofer... but what value, assuming a K-33-ish woofer inside?

You would not want the bins going much higher than 500hz would you?

You could play around with all sorts of tops!

  6. Hello Mark, a few members here have found a cheaper alternative to brand name replacement speakers.

The Eminence Kappa 15C in this case, and many others, would likely be the same or better and they are significantly lower cost.

I have used them in Cornwalls and LaScalas and not found them lacking in any way.

The Chorus 1 does not spec as low as the Cornwall to begin with so it would be ever better suited for that application.

I would be inclined to change out both woofers if they are different models (OCD...lol).

Ebay sometimes has just what you need too if you are diligent and it’s not urgent.

You could touch up the tear with glue in the meantime and still use your speakers.

Re-coning is an option too, but I have never gone that route.

  7. Saw these last week too.

From what I have gathered on the forums, the “flexing” sidewall issue is reduced by rotating the horn.

My OCD would not allow me to even contemplate listening to these.

Ahhhh! The image is burning into my retinas! Make it stop!

  8. To the OP:

Vincer12, first off, welcome to the forum. Find someone local, maybe a member of this, or another such forum, with a pair of LaScalas and I am sure they would fit you in for an audition.

It is the kind of experience those that have like to share.

The bottom line is the higher the “sensitivity” the better EVERYTHING sounds.

What is the equation? A 3db increase is double the power.

That means, in a LaScala at 51 hz, -4db down from 105db (or 101db) you are getting FOUR times the punch in the chest than with the RP28’s at -3db down from 98db (or 95db).

6db of difference is FOUR times the volume at the same given power.

And that doesn’t even take into account the “MOM” (measure of merit), mentioned above, afforded by horn loaded woofers. Speed, detail, and lack of distortion found in all direct radiators. (I can no longer stand the sound of my subs if I can hear them.)

The theory will ALL make sense with a practical example.

And then it becomes very hard to live without.

A man who has seen the truth cannot unlearn it!

  9. Oh, one more thing.

As MANY here, and on other forums have stated, NOTHING in between the speakers!

I pulled them out from the wall to vacuum about a month ago and sat down to listen to them before I finished and believe-it-or-not they sound even more incredible.

The bass does not suffer, if anything it tightens up more in my 12x20 foot living room, about 3 feet out from the wall.

  10. Uncanny!

I just finished a session with my ... AL-3 LaScalas... and came upstairs to surf a bit.

It has been almost a year with them and I still grin every day.

As is, the AL-3/ K-33-E/ K401/ K-55-M/ K-77-M compliment is plug and play.

When I switched out the K-33’s with Kappa 15C’s the drywall in one corner began to rattle at spirited listening levels! It never did that before.

And what a pronounced effect it had on the mid-bass definition and punch! ...Same thing in my Cornwalls.

I have Bob’s A/4500 crossovers and (older) CT125’s and still haven’t felt the need to audition them in my ‘92’s, they are that good stock.

    ...for now...

  11. An object in possession seldom retains the lustre of an object in pursuit.

Taste the milk before you buy the cow.

That’s all I the sage I got growing right now... lol.

As for the OP disappearing, maybe he’s got other passions on the go now that summer is here... Golf, criusing around top down, catching some rays.

Just wish I had his disposable income. Jubes and a KPT-1802 would fit the bill!

    KP-320’s

I have been intrigued by them since stumbling across a pair on kijiji locally.

    Are they yours?
