  1. THANKS BUILDER, GOTA go rubbing its been from saturday. ruba dub dub.
  2. HDBR I am not sure how much trouble i'm in,I appliedquite a liberal amount of linseed oil to cornwall, especally on top. and it is still seems to have reach saturation point, with excess containing litte bubbles, will this eventually soak in or should i be thjnking of removing excess by lightly rubbing down. the oil works beautifully on front door, just from remainder of linseed oil on cloth that was used on speaker. HEEEEEELLP....
  3. Prodj101 thanks for your responce, forgive my audio ignorance, was just trying to make sure any advice would not lean towards abonding the amp. Is this what is refered to as bi-amping. would this procedure be simillar to hook up of pre-amp.and any type of 5.1 will suffice. once again thankyou.
  4. I currently have a acurus 125x5 amp with an adcom gtp600, a little while ago a hum developed in the pre-amp due to some incorrect wiring. the pre-amp is prologic,my intent was to get a dts unit (gdd1)I AM NOW UNSURE BECAUSE OF THE HUM , weather to go this route. I dont want to spend too much at this time about 275-400. Would i be able to purchase a good used pre-amp/tuner for this sum? My perference is to have seperates,it'S not my intent to DISCARD the ACURUS.Could the purchase of a cheap receiver be used with the acurus, if so how would it be connected. THANK'S for your advice..
  5. When i payed $800 dollars for my quarets new in 1990. i was very happy, with my choice, the only reason i did not get the cornwall was the price. I finally was able to get a pair of cornwall last year when if many here can remember the crazyness that was going on, mine cost me $1200,were they worth it.A resonding yes! The cost of restoreation a less than prestine pair, could i believe cost as much as shipping, even if you are able to do the work your self its quite a task. A thread was started by hdbr builder calling heritage owner to respond. This was paramount in seperating the true heratage pwk, versus other klisch model. Personally i would not purchase the new klipsch line.to me they are bland. character less!!!Just my opinion, is the rf7 worth $2000 and not the cornwall? I'M sure hdbr will attest to the standerd of quality that went into these speakers. The word is already out that these speapers sound GREAT. and there is a Vibrant market for them. if the eico or scott suck would they be going for their prices.the internet is a marvelous channel , so is this form and as we all know its open to all .The mystique attched to the (herrases forgive spelling) has increased their price from $250 a year ago to as much as $600a pair.the cost of old klipsch speakers is on the rise.Watch out the klipschhorn are a bargin. If you're still searching good luck!! those who already own!!!! ENJOY
  6. tigerwoodkhorns, the quartets i like very much, phisically they are about 1/3 the size of a cornwall, and because of its size it can be more easely positioned in a room, and can full its space very well with good positioning. these are used with a ksw12 sub, which helps to give them present. They reproduce a source very well, sometimes i'am amazed at the sound comming from these speakers as they draw me in,i think they are very ballance the mid are detailed and highs that is crisp without beign bright. My quartets are now mainly used with HT although not regulated to this position . and because of this i do get to hear them every day,it would be a hard task to give these up..... They can go low, the first thing i notice was these are big beautiful things. with a heart that is 15" and never misses a beat.i have had my cornwalls about a year and come to reliase that they are extreamly delicate and needs to be meticlously placed, very inflexable, i love to play jazz and classical on thses. They are like infants who are able to speak and have not learn to lie, they only repeat what they here from you.this is my impression of the cornwall. i dont believe i'm getting the best from these at the moment my patio is not as secure as i would need it for putting these out there. my room is 23x18 and they are positioned on long wall awee bit too far, patio beign 15x18. One of the best things about the cornwall is its not fitugeing on ears, these speakers are totally different from each other, but like famlily you know they are related. I once tried the cornwall as fronts in HT and quartets in parralel as center this was the closest the quarete came to a sonic match of the cornwall. I think they're EXCELENT SPEAKERS> although they belong in different rooms
  7. builder does the linseed oil leave a natural looking finish , or one that is highley polish. i have deen using pine oil on my cornwall& Quartet and this seems to do a good job but leave's a natural finish when dry.Could linseed oil also be used on (walnut'quartets)

  11. Definately a humdigger of a problem, not setting myself up to know anything. sometimes a seamily stupid suggestion could solve a problem.have you tried running a seperate ground wiresay from closest plug to amp&tt.just a tought.

  15. Well congrat's on your new vintage amp,I too was plesantly suprised when i first unpacked my 299,which had first been shipped from the seller to me in fl.it was then forwarded to craig, I was actually out of the country, and my wife took care of the redirection for me. So my antepisitation was heighten, after speaking with craig who gave me a breakdown of what he had found, which was very positive. This was my first perspective of what my purchase looked like, and what it would take to bring it up to snuff. There is'nt a more genuine person you could wish to encounter, for those of us who have delt with him in some way, has had nothing but admaration towards him,he's a real brick.I'am no great audio facenado, just like music,But critical as far as information received through my ears. the first thing i noticed was this amp was clean, the bass is present,i like my heighs but the mids is awesome,he did a job on this amp. These were my first impression and i reserved a place for the critical ear. and it showed up later,in craig instruction he made mention that channel a is on the right i believe, after a while i started to notice that the right speaker was over powering the left. And was becomming annoying, i changed tubes to some qb5 i had from another amp and this made quite a difference seems more musical, but still the overpowering problem presisted, tried adjusting control but could'nt quite get rid of problem. until one day switch speakers and to my amazement it all seems to fit together, don't know why just did. These are very special amps, and i know i wont be parting with mine any time soon, and am so looking forward to the review that mobil homeless will be conducting real soon, not weather this is better than any other amp but his perseption.as far as i'm concern this is a very fine amp,try opening it up, you will be suprised with the result.

  18. JUST BUY BOSE, Why try to reproduce something you don't like. Dont mean to be synical, a sq, is a sq, a circle is a circle, a cornwall nuff said.
  19. par excelent, you know it kicks, Stuck in some el84 more musical, really just playing with it. Its sweet.
  20. Hi Craig, Just wanted to say congrats on the upgrade you've made, and know that you've taken a step closer to that sound that tends to motivate music lover's. possible as time goes on there might be some classical overtures in your collection.a table like this must cry out for you to see what it is capable of reproducing .hope fully one day i too will make a simillar leap. ENJOY Errol
  21. i too have the same sub, and what i find is that when the system is turned off with volume up high there is quite a pop. and believe that this caused the woofer in my quartet to rip.it only does this when the tv is turned off with amp and pre volume at high level, its possible that there could be a problem where there is a intermitten opening of the signal path causing the popping sound, make sure nothing is loose, could be the receiver, try disconnecting sub, during investigating.i'm just a novis.
  22. try mondial's acurus or arigon like the raggae boy's cool runnings,no problem man.
  23. I had a similar problem with the woofer of my quartet, and found some black silicon the flexable type. this did a real good job of mending the tear and the woofer sounded as good as new, cluless might have one since she got two from klipsch and might send it to you if you ask. Hey worth a try tough break.
  24. lost some words, silly me, ment to say Craig should the eico take the prime position, interject where you think best
