  1. General rule of thumb is to have an amp with higher output than what the speakers are rated for. You can enjoy more of what the speaker has to offer without getting into the limits of the amp and damaging your speakers. On the other hand if you like your current setup and the way it sounds that's great and don't go upgrading because a silvery tongue salesman said so. Just be careful and stay away from the upper end of the volume knob. Your speakers might be able to handle all the watts but the distortion at those high levels will kill them.
  2. Lol. Well it's not static. The solution effectively eliminated that.
  3. Rocord Doctor RxLP. I have a lot of 30+ year old vinyl that has never been washed. Only cleaned with dry brushes and cloths. Most of them still sound good with an occasional pop here and there but my copy of Dark Side Of The Moon is filthy and sounds horrible. All those nights in my 20's where I'd put in on to go to sleep and it got left on platter for days and weeks at a time.
  4. So much good info in this thread for a newbie to XLR interconnects like myself. My new Rotel Amp has XLR inputs. My old Kenwood system sounded great unbalanced but with the Kenwood CD player unbalanced to the Rotel it's lacking depth. Sounds flat and tinny. Since my current transport doesn't support XLR if I were to upgrade what would you recommend?
  5. A little late but Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
  6. Rotel RA 1570 integrated amp, Project Carbon Espírit table with Ortofon Blue cartridge, Kenwood CD player, Klipsch Epic Two speakers new crossovers done by Bob Crites.
  7. Santa brought me a Record Doctor V for Christmas. The solution that came with it quite frankly wouldn't clean the dust off of my rack. Any recommendations for a good solution that will deep clean 35 year old vinyl? The factory bottle didn't even get rid of the pops on brand new LP's.
  8. Your rabbit ears are not set up properly. I've noticed on the newer models the crucial step of adding tin foil flags to the end of the rabbit ears has been omitted from the installation manual.
  9. Finally got it all set up. Amp, Pro Ject Debut Carbon Esprit with Ortofon Blue cartridge. Audioquest Red River RCA's, and Audioquest Saturn ground. Still breaking in the amp and phono pre amp. Sounds warmer and broader with every passing hour. Ecstatic to say the least.
  10. Ok. This thread reminds me of what of what my life as a nerdy kid in elementary school used to be like. Only now I'm being harrased by my peers who actually have the same passion as me and that makes it all worthwhile. I'm off to buy some 250 mcm 32 strand 8 gauge oxygen free purple copper nitrogen blanketed suspended foam insulated shielded speaker fiber optic cable. You're all gonna wish you had this after you see the spectrum analyzer graph showing the sine waves at equal spatial differences across a broadened bandwidth. Don't even ask. I'm not giving up my supplier.
  11. Im using 12 gauge now. Same wire I bought when I bought the Epics back in 1996. Have some Nakamichi banana plugs coming Monday and will probably replace the wire with 8 gauge.
  12. I already can't sleep and that will make it worse? I'm doomed. I trimmed some off the other night and I think I took more off the left that I did the right. Be right back…
  13. Ha! Yeah tempted to just turn it on and leave it all day while I'm at work! Lol
  14. Cut to fit placement of each speaker or both channels cut to same length? Due to room layout I'll have one speaker about 6 feet from amp and the other about 12 feet. I've got my cables cut now at 15 feet each. I often like to move my speakers around as well so are there any advantages to cutting the wires to the exact length you need like signal degradation over a longer wire and such?
  15. Thanks for the reassurance on the volume control. That struck me as odd that it's such a low output until you get it cranked up. The Epic Two speakers I have are rated at 96 decibels so I know that's not the issue.
  16. Definitely worth the money. The Debut Carbons go for $399 new. The Carbon Esprit with on board speed box sells for $599. Ortofon makes a top notch cartridge. It's a win win for you at that price. Project is one of the best selling brands of entry to mid level turntables. If you don't like it you should have no problem selling it on Audiogon for a few bucks more.
  17. To be honest about this Rotel I was slightly put off by it when I first heard it. My expectations were super high and the sound quality and dynamic range seemed flat and muddled. I spent four hours listening and switching back and forth from tone bypass to adjusting bass and treble. Source changes from CD, vinyl, and streaming audio. Something happened over the course of that time. This thing really started to warm up. I've heard of "break in" but never experienced it. I put on a CD I've listened to a thousand times but I never really heard it until now. Tone bypass was on and the sound just started to open up. The dynamic spectrum increased exponentially. The music took on a whole new aura. Songs went in directions that completely changed my perception of them. It was like listening to brand new CD. It's hard to explain. It almost brought tears to my eyes. The emotion that was being transported through the speakers went straight to my soul. I've never experienced anything like that. Very happy with my choice of Amps.
  18. Same here. Sick of black. This silver really looks sharp and contrast nice with the black hole of my rack. Was actually looking for a table/rack that will fit in the center section of my entertainment center. Though about just building a shelf to go across the bottom half to put everything on and get it out of that hole but then decided it would be better to put a separate rack there to isolate it from the entertainment center to reduce the vibrations for the turntable. I did although order the new turntable in black. Only because there was no wood option for the Carbon Esprit. Kinda wishing I'd have gone with white now.
