  1. OK, I love my La Scalas, but have a chance to acquire a set of Khorns (1977 or 1987, my choice).

My living room is 13' wide, 23' long with a cathedral ceiling that slopes for one side up giving a ceiling height of 12' on one side and 20' on the other.

Floor is carpeted, couch and loveseat are in there (fabric, not leather). I have natural corners on the short wall, so they would be about 11' apart or so.

    Thoughts?

  2. Just my two cents - on my La Scales, I ended up dropping the mid to -6 dB total to tone them down a bit. I'll eventually add a switch to allow the factory setting or my mod to be chosen. Perhaps keeping the AL and move the AAs down a bit to even things out would be an option.

  3. I have owned 3 pairs of speakers with built-in amps - two B&O, and Advents (NLA). The B&Os have been trouble free, the Advents, I ended up dumping due to issues.

It is a fine line. All things considered, unless the amps are "off the shelf" parts, I'd avoid adding them in.

  4. I recently gutted my 7.1 HT, which I liked, and replaced it all with a 2.0 La Scala setup, which I like even more! If you get the speakers setup correctly, you do not need a dedicated center channel. I have been very impressed with these speakers in the HT environment.

Makes my living room look cleaner too (and my wife loves them).

A setup like Youthman shows above would be better than most commercial theaters, no question.

  5. Interesting comments.

The sensitivity of a speaker is overlooked in todays market of cheap wattage, but it is very important, especially (as pointed out above) in low volume (dB) situations. One of the reason I love my La Scalas and Bozaks - only a watt or three are needed and they are "clean" at low volumes.

Increasing sensitivity and lowering distortion in your system (speakers) is like zooming in on the sound with a microscope. The good gets better but the bad gets worse. It's kind of a double edged sword. Some here have gone as far as re-mastering music, I myself just listen to the bad stuff less.

Yeah, what he said. I have noticed it too. Some stuff is just terrible on my La Scalas. That is when I switch to my Bozaks or Large Advents - more forgiving.
