Sonicaps from Crites, ordered his kit.  I'm sure I could have ordered them on their own but I didn't want to screw anything up.

@ImolaRed Following this thread as I will be doing the same later this year with a pair of Vertical C-DR-15's.  They'll be my winter project for upgrades & refinishing. Interested to hear your thoughts on Bob's x/o upgrades.  Used his x/o's in both my KG4's & Quartets along with Ti tweets, major improvements.  These CW's will most likely be my Klipsch 'end game' speakers due to room size constraints, oh and the fact that my wife has divorce paperwork ready if she see's another pair of speakers in the garage.

  2. Well, good or bad they're now mine for $700.  Can't pick them up for a month or so, until I can get back down to Anchorage.  True Heritage models just don't show up often this far North.  May have been a late night impetuous decision but figure for the purchase price and a few hundred $'s in cosmetic & electronic upgrades, I'll still have a reasonably inexpensive set of somewhat unique CW's. Tried twice to get a ratty old pair of H1's from a seller in Kenai for $200 and both times the guy just quit responding.  This particular seller is a 'known' flipper whom I've bought from before.  Most of what I have found out about Raw Decorators indicates they usually came without grills, wonder if these are original grills then. These 1972 models are also labeled as CW II's so these were the 1st incarnation of a 2nd version?  Just trying to get a grasp on what I've got now.  Thanks

I think I would just sand the cabinets and paint them black if those were mine.

WAF wouldn’t allow that finish unfortunately.  Would be a great first time veneer project. Upgrading the x-overs would be easy enough. I’d probably cheat and get a pair from Bob C.  The fact that there a vertical pair is intriguing also.

  4. These just popped up 400 miles away.  Don't know much about them.  Seller asking $900 with very little information about them. I'd love to snag them but would like some input.  Are these the 'Decorator" model?  Drivers & x-overs seem original, yes/no?  Any info from those knowledgeable about these would sure be appreciated.  Thanks a bunch.

Agree totally. Great value in the KG series, especially these days.

I've listened to all the KG models (one of those self imposed journeys), except for the KG-3. The ones that remained are KG-1s (two pair), KG 2.5s (many), and KG 4.2s. I'd own 4.5s again.

Funny, I also have 2 pairs of upgraded KG1’s. Only speakers I have 4 of. Using them with my Marantz 4070 for Quad listening. Looking for another pair of Heresy’s to replace them.

  6. Always looking for some good near field speakers.  Using my KG1's and am impressed with the bass output even though they are sealed.  Not sure about the 2's with a passive but I've always felt the KG's were an under appreciated Klipsch series.

Are the labels unreadable for you?

Yes they are.  Not for you?

Also,  have only seen the white woofs on my KG-4's and the KG2's don't list as 96 db efficiency.  Interesting.  $250 is steep even with stands.  But they are in Walnut and I do like my other KG's .  Thanks for the knowledgeable information

  8. Hope someone got those KG1's.  Searched for quite a while hoping to find a pair in Walnut.  Had to settle on 2 pairs of them in Oak.  Upgraded the X/O's & tweets.  Surprisingly articulate and they have more bass than you'd expect from a small 2 way, non-ported design.  They really seem to come alive when pushed with about 50 watts of clean power.  Using mine in a couple of near field systems, one pair with a 3 watt APPJ mini watt tube amp and the other with a Marantz 2010 receiver.  Honestly, I prefer their SQ to most of the current small Klipsch bookshelf type speakers.  Just my 2 cents worth regarding a very under rated speaker in my novice, humble opinion.

  9. 3215 sq. ft. single family structure on 4.11 acres of a hillside with exactly .12 acres flat enough to build on. Fairbanks North Star Borough just sent our $7200 tax bill and notice that it will increase next year.  The only benefit I've ever used of the Borough is the garbage transfer site which they are talking about closing due to funding issues.  State maintains the nearby access roads.  I actually snow plow the subdivision road that we live on. Haven't ever used the 'volunteer' fire dept.  Heating fuel is over $3 a gallon and it takes an act of congress to pass the current air quality requirements for wood burning appliances.  Arkansas is starting to sound pretty good.

  10. Heading into my late 50's and have been dealing with worsening 'Tinnitus' for the last few years.  Have heard abundant horror stories regarding dozens of different hearing aid appliances.  Very seldom is there a 'success' story, yours sounds like one of the few I've heard.  Would it be improper to ask the make and model of your appliances?

91F and wildfires....I thought you were in Cali somewhere but found out otherwise when I clicked to the thread. 91F has to pretty unusual for AK?

Could be worse. It was 96F (high peak) and 50% humidity here Thursday afternoon, with a "feels like" temp of 110F. On the local tv news @ 1800 they had video of a couple local people @ the hospital receiving fluids via IV for dehydration.

I mowed my yard yesterday @ 1400 and it was 92F. But thankfully we have no wildfires.

And another wild fire just miles from here sprung up shortly after I posted that pic yesterday.  The Shovel Creek Fire has already consumed 200 + acres and growing rapidly.  We cannot have heat without fire up here.  Good thing there's lots of acreage in Alaska.

  12. Not sure if this is the correct forum but figured one or more of you HT gurus might be able to help.  Have had little success finding a soundbar (w/o sub) that both satisfies my 'significant other's' aesthetic requirements and my SQ requirements.  Figured I'd rotate my 'Sixes' in and see if what her response is.  She loves the looks of them and I have already enjoyed their sound for the last year or so in my office.  Have had absolutely no success getting the Directv genie remote to operate the volume of the 'Sixes'.  The remote operates the tv fine but don't seem to be able to find any supporting paperwork or links to connect the two.  Any suggestions?  What am I missing or is this a lost cause?  Thanks

    Thank you for the confirmation!
I have been eyeballing the Kef LS50Wireless as another option but since their fail rate seems unusually high i might steer more into The Sixes again!

Oddly enough,  those Kef’s were also on my radar when I decided on the ‘Sixes’.  It was actually the ‘Heritage Inspired’ WAF looks that finalized the choice. I had read many positive reviews about the Kefs and was leaning that way.  I’d had a bad experience with the new Klipsch ‘Heritage Bar’. It was sent back.

Can anyone chime in on the static noise issues i see mentioned from time to time? Was it just a problem with the early firmware or bad sources?

I have a pair of LSR305 that im looking to replace soon and the sixes seems like a good enough fit but its a pass if it has any static noise since it will be nearfield 🙄

Can only say that I’ve not experienced any static from mine. Use them with both USB from my laptop and BT from my IPhone. Probably have a couple hundred hours on them and use as both near and mid field speakers. These are my first and only quality powered speakers. They can get a bit ‘boomy’ with certain EDM sources.  Great, tight bass and crystal highs if the source is higher quality. No complaints or regrets.

  15. Wow,  hadn't even considered hooking up a single pair in my old Sprinter let alone 2 pair.  Hope you keep your doors open a lot for that much music.  Not sure how much movement they'd handle in such a mobile installation and they certainly would take up some serious real estate but what an interesting idea.  :emotion-55:

Let me offer you all some clarification. My name is Joe and I’m the person with the Klipsch Heresy HIP Speakers in AZ.

First, Thomas, I’ve already been offered $1,000 for the speakers by a buyer in Northern California, but he wants me to ship them (I won’t ship) sight unseen (he’ll pay) and he wants to pay me via PayPal, which I don’t accept. Cash only.

Joe,  No offense intended.  Just noting that ad has been in place for a rather extended period of time which may lead to some (premature) speculation.  You've clarified that now.  My apologies

  17. Have to say, once contact was made, they've been very helpful.  Here is the latest reply.

    Hi Thomas,
You’re most welcome for the information. Here’s the answers to your other questions:
     1.      Yes, the vinyl should be removed first for a quality job. I’ve attached a PDF about “Reface the Case” – a rehab project we did on a road case. The concept is the same for you except you will be removing vinyl & in this PDF it is carpet that is being removed – the surface preparation is all the same.
    2.      Yes, you can absolutely mix white DuraTex® & black DuraTex® until you get the shade of gray that you want. We have several customers that have done this previously. (I should have said that there are 4 ways to make gray colors).
    3.      If you want to order a gallon of tinted DuraTex® you just need to tell us what color gray you want – the name, number & manufacturer of the color. The zip code you provided is coming up as Fairbanks, AK so the shipping charges on this are higher than usual. The shipping cost to 99712 is $46.60 for one gallon of custom color DuraTex® via the U.S. Postal Service 3 Day Priority Service.
Please let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks!
