  1. Justin I am building my new home w/ home theater. My plan is to have it usable as a two channel listening room as well as 7.1 home theater. My friends say it will be imposible - but I bielive it is possible. Will let you know in 3-4 months when it is reality. I also love the Klipsch sound. I am using all Heritage speakers in my project except for the subs. Khorn fronts. homebuilt center w/ k-77,k-400 to match khorn midrange. Forte I's on the sides and Heresy's in the rear. Pair of SVS ultra for subwoofers. Have you looked at the numbers on your room on the spreadsheet I sent you? How are the peaks and nulls? Room looks GREAT....I think your fiber optic stars on the ceiling is a cool idea. Lots of cables!!! Hope the labels dont fall off. You would be tracing for weeks..... Good luck on the project. JM
  2. Hi Here is my SUV comments. Being from Wisconsin and a life long hunter - I need and use my SUV's to get into the back woods. I love my jeep - Not too big very agile. Gets me anywhere (with a winch of course). I have looked at the BMW when I bought my Mercedes ML430. The BMW is NOT designed for offroad use AT ALL. If all you do is drive arround town you will be OK. The Mercedes is a great off road vehicle unless you like to fling mud. The wheels will NOT break loose evan in sand or mud. I personally have climbed more than 45 degree grades in the ML (Dont tell my wife - she would kill me) That is what the jeep is for!!!! Toyota makes great off road trucks as well - though I have never owned one... JM
  3. Ya - I know. Been watching but have not bid on any yet. I only decided to make the components instead of a single cabinet earier this week. I would rather buy from somebody who appreciates the equipment, before I buy from somebody who strips equipment for profit. That last set of Heresys components on ebay is a good example....I checked the sellers recent auctions and he won the set just two weeks before for something like $380. It was obvious since one of the cabnets had a dis-colored top. JM
  4. Hi All Since I located a K-400 horn and 55-V on this board - I thought I would ask if any of you fine people have any other equipment I am looking for to complete my latest project. I am looking for an single empty Heresy Cabinet. I am also looking for a K-22 or K-24 woofer. My project is building a center channel to use with my Khorns. I have my modified AK network, K-77 and K-400 already. I was going to build a single cabinet to house the setup at the wall / ceiling over the Bigscreen. To make my setup more versatile - I have decided to house it in two cabnets. The heresy woofer in its own cabinet and the Tweeter and Squawker in a separate cabnet. Hence the request for the empty cabinet! If you have any spare equipment that I may be interested in - Please let me know! Thanks much. JM
  5. Big D is willing to sell me one of his K-400 horns and a 55-V driver and we have agreed on a price. It is a VERY FAIR price... HE HAS ANOTHER ONE AVAILABLE FOR ANYBODY WHO IS LOOKING.......... These are hard to find - I have been looking for a while. If your interested - I suggest you contact him soon. JM
  6. Indy I designed a new home theater in the dream house I am building right now. My room size is 22 wide by 34 deep. It was designed to be a listening room and home theater. When you decide where your speakers are located like Justin indicated I ran 1 plastic conduit to each location. So I could change my wire in the future. I tried to upload a spread sheet that calculates peaks and nulls of a room design to this forum but the site does not accept xls file uploads. If you like I could email it to you directly. JM
  7. One thing to remember ------ No matter what digital components you select or purchase. The most important purchase is your speakers. Your speakers are what compress the airwaves that travel to your ear. JM
  8. Hi Keith is right. Quintets are not "listening" speakers. Personally for listening - I only have owned Heritage line speakers and am not satisfied by anything less. But that is ME. I have no idea what you mean by Klipsh being "slow"????? Second of all - Usually DVD players have a lower dynamic range than mid to high quality CD players. JM
  9. Hi I also am building a home theatre using K horns. What I plan to do is to use either a La Scalla or build my own center channel using a K400 midhorn and a K77 tweater. I need both of these speakers to acheve perfect midrange imaging completely across the front of my HT. Dont compromise or you WILL be disappointed overall!!!! My 2 cents, JM
  10. Shock I have the pricelist. It is 36 pages so I can't scan and post the whole thing. I looked through it and did not find a cornwall or Cornwall 2 section I suppose because they have been out of production so long. I do see Cornwall 2 listed in the individual driver sections. If you have a spacific item your looking for on the list - Let me know and I can look it up for you. JM
  11. Rick I might be interested in 1 La Scalla and 2 Heresy's for sure. Maybe more? I was not planning on bidding on this because it is way too much stuff for me. If your looking for a serious partner to help you make this deal - Email me. JM
  12. Hi I do not intend on bidding on the Horns. I really plan on using a 400 or 401 mid range for this project. Good luck on the auction. They sure get exciting in the last min!!!!! JM
  13. This would not surprise me. Where I live (Milwaukee WI) we have a store named American TV. I would compare it to a Best Buy, and they carry Klipsch. Not that I would ever go there to shop for a klipsch product. Around here all the old high end stores of years gone by, have converted to catering to the masses. I went to a store that use to carry McIntosh Amps to inquire about the MC1000 monoblock model several years ago. They told me that when Clerion bought Mac they quality did not meet there standards. Thats funny - because in there store they were selling Yamaha, Sony, Adcom, NAD etc.etc. Ya - Like there better than MAC. What a Laugh.... Im not saying those products are crap. They are absolutely good for the money. But what he should have told me that they forgot how to sell real high end equipment. I feel sorry for anybody who goes to these stores not knowing what they are looking for and actually try to get advise from YAHOOs like that. Anyhow - My 2 cents. JM
  14. Chris I have designed several Sterio rooms over the years. It is best to build a room to get the best results. ESPECIALLY IF KHORNS ARE INVOLVED. My last home I built I designed a room that was the PERFECT two channel listening room I ever made. This is no bulls..it. You know how when you are in an empty room with no furnature - You yell and hear a slight echo! Before I put in carpet and the false ceiling in this room - I stood in the middle of the room and yelled. I had NO echo _ NONE... The room (at that point) had a no furnature, concrete floor, wood ceiling and drywall all arround. I have a spreadsheet that calculates single, double and tripple nulls. Is a good tool to use in an existing room. You can adjust your location in your room to find the best location to sit. Ive got to look for it - When I find it I will post it in the Arch section. JM
  15. MacKlipsch I am waiting to see what drivers I end up with before I get / mod a crossover. My Khorns have a modified AK network in them now. So ???? well see. Steve Your info and setup is great. Originally - I was going to get a projector and have the screen above a single La Belle or Scalla on the floor. I decided to use a standalone 61" for the next couple of years until maybe we get a HDTV standard - prices dropp etc. etc. I don't want to mount a la scalla or Belle over the TV - Just to big? What I was planning on doing was making a special cabnet mounted to the wall/ceiling centered on the front wall. This box would have a slanted front facing slightly downward. I have not drawn the speaker yet, but will post drawings before I build it. My new house will be done June / July so I have some time to do this right. I have a close friend who use to be an engineer at Koss speakers. He is a heritage lover and knows the formula to make a ported cabnet for the K-24. I have not decidid if I will port or not yet. Depends how much bass is needed. My original thinking is that most center channel sound is Midrange. A K-400/401 will voice the same as my khorns - so the K-24 should be OK (I hope) if it is only used for HT. I do not plan to use it for music at all. My room calcs has only 1 sigle null (don't remember the frequency off the top of my head) so it should be a good flat responce for two channel listening as well at HT. Your Khorns look older than mine. Mine ar '87 and have the AK network. Your squawkers are the same as mine - the aluminum k400 with the K-55-V driver. Does your fiberglass horn have a K-55-V driver or does it have the thread to mount that driver? I will be interested in it if the price is right. Thanks for the input. JM
  16. Hi If any of you have an old K-55-V Aluminum Squawker from a Khorn,Belle or LaScalla, or know somebody who may have one to spare they could part with, please let me know. Been watching Ebay - but I thought I would post here just in case. I am building a center channel to use with my Khorns for a home theater I am building in my new home. My plan it to build a speaker with a K-24 12" woofer. K-77-M tweeter and this squawker. (Basicaly a Heresy with a K-horn Squawker to match my sides) Thanks, JM
  17. >>Thanks for making your dreams and knowledge part of my life! >>Rob You know Reading this got me thinking. How one man has touched so many people, and has given us so many people so much pleasure. I remember so vividly the first time that I heard a pair of LaScallas back when I was in school. It was almost a religious experience. I was hooked for life. I know most of you have a similar experience. And it all came from a vision from a single man PWK!!!! I can honestly say PWK has added to the quality of my life. I cant count how many times have I come home after a hard crappy day at work Turn on some Beethoven and in 15 min I am recharged and relaxed A new man. How many people can follow there dreams and really make a difference in the world? A very select few. PWK Thank you and Happy Birthday. JM
  18. Thanks ALL This is exactly the information I was looking for. Your help is greatly appreciated. This is a GREAT FORUM and I am glad to be part of it!!!!! JM
  19. Hi Being new to the forum I am not familiar with ALK crossovers. I have searched the Internet and can not find info on ALK. From this thread, it appears somebody named Al is the one to contact. Can somebody please send me some contact info? Much appreciated. JM
  20. Schmidty May I ask where you found that deal? I am in the market for one and the best price I found so far was $1150. Thanks, JM
  21. Is there any limit on the length of the Interconnect between the processor and powered subwoofer? I am building a home theater in my new home and would like to put the subwoofer in the rear corner. In that location, I will need a 55-foot cable to connect it! Is that too long? Would it be better to move it to a closer corner if I use a powered Sub. For that length, should I use an un-powered subwoofer, placing my amp close to my processor? I plan to buy a RSW15 and am using a Lexicon MC1 as the processor. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks, JM
  22. I too am looking for a single Belle to use as a center channel to go with my '87 Khorns. Would also be interested in splitting a pair with somebody. My speakers are Wallnut vaneer and would prefer that finish. Can't buy anything till after tax time. Any body interested - Email me. Thanks, JM
  23. The basic rule in 2 Channel High End system is the Left and Right speakers should be the same lengths. The reason is the cable does create resistance. If the length is the same, you should have the same conditions on both channels. Will you notice the difference if your cables are different lengths??? Probably not, unless you are running Khorns and have Class A amplifiers. JM
  24. My Khorns are '87 vintage and I LOVE them. I prefer the older horns constructed from Plywood. The newer khorn are called engineered wood, which is a better term for particleboard! Being a musician, I have personally destroyed a 15-year-old guitar speaker made of Particleboard over time by vibrations. I am not convinced the newer Khorn speakers will last a lifetime. I honestly believe my Grandchildren will be using my plywood khorns someday after I am gone. I also prefer the older mid horns made out of Aluminum, rather than the newer molded plastic horns with the foam core. They moved away from Aluminum because they "ring" at loud volumes. But that is easily fixed by dampening the outside of the horn body. To me - The older aluminum horns sound more LIVE. The newer ones are more tame or smooth. It is really a personal preference. I have found that the diehard analog / tube guys prefer the older Khorns and are willing to pay more for them. If you get the older model - I would dampen the midrange horn, upgrade the crossover networks and internal speaker cable. I believe the '82 models did not have monster cable from the factory. Good Luck in your search. JM
