  1. I have the AMC cd8b and have some experience with the cd6b....IMO, both very nice players for the cash. Troy
  2. just my .02.... for the money, I've seen a couple of cd players from AMC (cd6b and cd8b) that are nice players for the money. They look like NAD clones. No frills but sound good. Troy
  3. Sorry to bring back one from the dead.....2 channel on the cheap? No problem if you are willing to look at used gear.... Look for a NAD 3020 integrated, usually can be found for a bill on ebay. Integrateds can be found anywhere cheap cheap. I recently picked up a nice Marantz 1060 for 30 dollars. CD player, a little tricky as I wouldn't consider buying one used and having it shipped, hit CC or BB and pick up a Sony or whatever for, what, 125? So, you got 175 left for speaks? well, IMO the options are endless there. I just picked up a pair of Boston Acoustics A40 bookshelves for 40 dollars (or course the shipping was 25). Anyway, sorry to bring this back from the dead but one of the cool things to me is to go bargain shopping..... Troy
  4. As a lurker on this forum and an active member of another forum (Polk) I just wanted to throw out my comment on this subject. I agree with HornEd that the off topic things do not detract or lessen the quality of the audio related info. In fact, I'd say that there are more knowledgable folks that frequent this board than most others out there. Good on ya! Obviously, with so many different kind of folks, there is bound to be friction but if we all agreed on everything, frankly, the world would be boring. I honestly feel as we respect each others points of view and keep it reasonably civil, I don't see the problem. Added to that, if you don't like a post or a subject, ignore it. Having said that, the animosity and BS can get out of hand. It's happened over at the Polk forum and has run off some pretty quality folks, like deang. So I would implore you to treat each other as you would like to be treated Lastly, it's the personal interaction that makes these boards so cool. You wind up making friends and so on that otherwise probably wouldn't ever occur. just my .02 Troy
  5. Actually, I think if you were to look at most audio shops, Klipsch is probably the one line that most are likely to carry. Last week I was TDY (military-speak for temporary duty) for a class and to kill some time I demoed some of the new Klipsch speakers....definately do NOT sound like the Klipsch of old. Excellent image and soundstage. Vocals are pretty forward but not nearly as pronounced as older Klipsch that I have heard. I think that they should make long time horn nay-sayers rethink their positions. I think build quality and asthetically, they are better than ever. just my opinion Troy
  6. posted by zandern on the polk website: "First of all I must say, YOU PEOPLE ARE STUPID AND IMMATURE! Yes Polk makes some great speakers, but so do other companies. I was in serious debate between the Polk 800i and Klipsch RF3II. They both sounded great. So I join both forums to listen to see what people say about them and just to see what goes on in each forum. Let me tell you that this forum is a joke. There are maybe 5 people in this forum who know their stuff. In the Klipsch forum they are so much more educated and some of them are so damn good that I think they could have invented electricity. Everyone bashes the Klipsch horn. Why, because your jealous of it? They say it hurts them, that its painful. Well duh? Klispch speakers are much more efficient than other speakers, meaning when you listen to them you have to turn down the volume because they naturally play louder even though you may not realize it. Obviously after a while your ears will hurt, they would if you listened to Polks at a much higher volume for a long time too........ " Zandern - I wasn't going to post anything over here but since you said that you weren't coming back, well, it seemed like the thing to do. I don't see where your tirade rises much above the supposed level of intelligence that you purport us to have. Generally, you are going to find either people love the horn sound or they don't. If you want to debate something, cool, but your post wasn't. It just adds to the animosity. My mom always said, if you don't have anything nice to say, keep your mouth closed. Good advice. As far as the Klipsch bashing, man, that's silly, there is just as much of that over here so climb off the high horse. The Polk Forum is more of a social club atmosphere and we like it that way. If you don't, c'est la vie. If you want to talk about something specific, we can do that as well. Sorry for having to keep bringing this up, everyone, but again I ask, if you don't like us, fine, leave us alone. We are extending you the same courtesy. 7. ...again, if we all liked the same stuff, it would be a boring world. Troy
  8. no worries brotha....just trying to keep things civil and on an even keel. If you do check out the Outlaw (they have a 30 day money back guarantee) lemme know. I have heard some good things about Outlaw gear. Troy
  9. good find Chris, the RT5 was a Stereophile Class C recommended product a few years back. Nice little speaker. Troy
  10. No rage here guys, I will happily debate speakers or whatever. Sinatra, I was just trying to place you. I don't recall any of your posts, to be honest but good luck with your speakers! As far as the Dynaudio's go, I haven't heard them so I can't give an opinion. However, what was offered was a comparison of Polks to a pair of Dynaudio Contour 3.3's. You can't really compare any speaker to another that costs 10X as much. I will put Polks up against anything in it's class however. If you don't agree, cool, no sweat. QUiKSR20: Here I have to throw the BS flag. The only person who made a remark about your speaks was Dean (a Klipsch guy from this forum) who was pulling your chain. Even one of our guys pointed this out. Every other reply POLITELY tried to give an opinion vice your question about receivers. There was no attack or rudeness at all. If you like I can post the entire thread. However, if you just want to start a bunch of animosity, then, well whatever floats your boat, compadre. I only asked why would you ask Polk guys what gear went best with Klipsch speakers, why not ask Klipsch guys. To put a point on it, you want to know which receiver goes best with your rig? Go out and demo the equipment yourself and then tell US what sounds best. Lastly, before I sign off, no one on the Polk forum talks crap about anyone on the Klipsch forum and we don't come over bombing on you guys so please extend us the same courtesy. If you want to seriously talk audio gear, that would be great Good luck to you all and enjoy your gear, Cheers, Troy
  11. OK, one last thing on this thread and I will say no more.... First, Sinatra, what name do or did you go by on the Polk Forum? Second, we do have some clowns but generally we are an amiable bunch. HOWEVER, if you go in spouting about how much better Klipsch (or any product) is on a Polk forum. Yeah, you are going to get backlash. Much like I don't expect anyone here to convert to Polk. I would rather try to convince folks that we are all audio nuts who just have a different slant on things. If we all liked the same things, life would be boring. Next, I think you will find that Polk sells a fair amount of speakers as well but since when do sales #'s equate to good speakers? RE: Bose, they outsell everyone. Crappy foam radiators? A buddy of mine has KG4's, what's that? A passive radiator? Looks an awful lot like the one on the older Polks! Polk and Dynaudio? C'mon, be serious! You are talking about a speakers that listed for like 7 grand. That's not a fair comparison at all. Line them up against a pair of KG4's and tell me that they are similar. BTW: Where is the horn on those Dynaudio Contour 3.3's ? Lastly, we all hear things differently so let's just leave it at that. OK? 12. Kudos to HornEd....I couldn't agree more. Companies such as Klipsch often find themselves at a crossroads having to decide which route to take. Unfortunately, mass retailers is the hot thing right now and companies have to decide for themselves if that is the right thing for that company. Having said that, corporate policies aside, I don't think that having your product on the shelves of WalMart in the worst thing in the world. Does it lessen the quality of the product? That is up to Klipsch. Does it harm the reputation of Klipsch? Maybe. I rather look at it that you are going to reach more folks with your product (one you consider superior to others) than you would ordinarily. Your loyalists, largely will remain loyal. The folks that will abandon ship just because they don't like where the product is sold, those will probably be fairly minimal. My main gripes would be the same as they are for BB or CC. Piss poor auditioning facilities and folks selling them that know practically nothing. That problem is not Wal-Mart specific though. just my .02 Troy
  13. Gladiator - Unleash Hell Swordfish - opening bomb sequence Dave Matthews Band Listener Supported - All Along the Watchtower Crimson Tide - the scene where Gene Hackman is addressing the crew in the rain. What I like about this scene is that while most of us will never hear huge explosions in person so we really don't have a frame of reference but all of us have heard pouring rain so we can relate. Troy
  14. my .02 would be basically what Dean says. I have always thought you are better off getting a good 2ch rig set up first and then working from there. IMO if it works well for music it will work fine for HT but the reverse isn't always true. Troy
  15. I know this is bringing back an old thread back to life but what the heck.... Excellent advice Colin. I really kind of cringe at the "Should I buy XXX or XXX" questions. Ultimately, it's your cash and your tastes that matter. Go demo as much gear as you can and choose what suits you best. As far as the RT800i's go, they are a pretty good speaker for the price. I gotta wonder what BHZ Boy was using for a power source? A buddy of mine has the RT55i's which have the same driver compliment in a bookshelf and those will play, given proper amplification (in my case a Carver m1.5t), as loud as you can stand. One thing I am sure you all know, horns in general are a lot more efficient than other types so they will play louder with less amplification but I am sure you don't need me to tell you that. Troy
