  1. Different approach...can someone point me to an online calculator for approximating the rear slot size needed (easy to use for the non engineers among us)?

I doubt the complete list of specs is available for the 15" 16 OHM 103LX Stephens Tru-Sonic woofer, but hoping I can come up with enough cabinet internal volume and driver spec estimates to get within the ballpark on slot dimensions.

  2. I know these are rare, but I thought I would throw it out here:

I am thinking about building a Shorthorn model T (lowboy version) for a center channel to go with my early Khorns.

The components will be the Stephens Tru-sonic 103LX, K-1000/SAHF, University 4401 and K-1000/5000.

I can get the general dimensions, but am unclear about the construction of the rear of the cabinet (see pics below).  I assume it has a slot rear port like the S version (second to last pic; The T is supposed to have better bass).

Anyone have any pics or plan views?  I did find plans some in a search, but links were bad.

  3. Welcome to the forum!

A description of what you believe is missing, sound quality wise, in more detail would be helpful to diagnose the problem...(the 82 ft. ceiling height shouldn't be a problem...)

Also a picture of the room/speaker placement might help.  Lots of posts here on room treatments and cables.

I owned one of the top 12, the large Advents about 42 years ago. But any article on top 12, or top 10 of anything is subjective by that author.

Fully agreed on the subjectivity.  Interesting...Klipsch would have to be on any list, not a mention of Altec, JBL or Tannoy.

  5. just basic stuff first:..check the needle tip, make sure the diamond is still there and the cantilever isn't tweaked, then double check the tonearm balance and anti-skate settings are correct for the cartridge (might take a brief visit to the interweb), make sure the ground wire (if present) is attached to your amp....

  6. I am curious whether the notation in the Klipsch Heritage Timeline  "1955: K-500 / 5000 network phased out in favor of the 1 RC (Type A network)" is accurate?

I have a Klipschorn built on June 21, 1957, that I am pretty sure has all original components, and it has the 500/5000 W2 network.

Indeed, there is a 1957 price list that shows the W2 available separately and as an exchange/upgrade.

Additionally, there is an upgrade installation sheet that states the "500/5000 W2 is the 1957 standard for Klipschorns"

I searched the site, but couldn't find any additional content beyond the timeline.

I see the 500/5000 W5 was introduced at the same time to coordinate with the option of the T-35 tweeter (aka K-77)

If so, did the W5 become the 1RC?
