  1. I have been waiting for something like this. Although the original Toy Story was an awesome DVD transfer at the time, it has been trumped by Pixar's later releases. There are some obvious compression and interlacing errors in the orginal Toy Story disc, a new transfer is welcome. And the sound doesn't hurt either.
  2. If you do a little research on this farce of a film, you can see that it has been debunked many times, even by those who believe that 911 was an 'inside job' (this in itself is preposterous). They think it hurts their cause, because it contains so many obviously false and previously debunked 'theories'. It's amazing the things folks can come up with when faulty logic or lack of understanding of the scientific method is applied.
  3. Actually, as bad as this movie is ( and it sucks), he JUST released a new film, in the theaters. The critics actually liked this one, The Devil's Rejects. Haven't seen it yet, but hope to, as it should much better from what I've been reading. But yeah, agreed on this one, it sucks.
  4. Agreed, awesome flick. There were a few times I was laughing so hard it hurt. Also agreed on the subs. Dubs are evil.
  5. Cool, I'll have to check this out. Another great one is Red vs. Blue. Red vs. Blue This has been running since 2001 I believe, they are in season 4. I have the first 2 seasons on DVD, and it's a riot. All made in Halo and Halo2. Cool stuff. http://rvb.roosterteeth.com/archive/'>
  6. GITS2 is amazing, I've already watched it 4 times. GITS (the original) is in my top 10 films ever made, and GITS2 is worthy sequel. Both are quite emotioally compelling, visually breathtaking, and philosopical. Haven't seen Appleseed yet, I was sort of turned off by the 'cell shading' style of animation. But I'll give it a whirl since Nic recommends it. BTW, the same guy created the source material of each story, but the scripts and animation were written and directed by two separate people from Mr. Masamune. Shirow Masamune wrote the manga for both GITS and Appleseed. But both GITS movies were directed by Mamoru Oshii, an amazing director. Check out his movie Avalon that was made between the two GITS films. It mixes live action and CGI in such a way to create a surreal virtual world, with similar themes to the GITS and Matrix films. (In case you haven't noticed, the first Matrix film owes a TON to GITS). Avalon is sort of a 'rebuttal' to the first Matrix film. The Matrix lifted scenes directly outof the first GITS film. (Which pre-dated it by 3 years). Anyway, check out GITS2, Avalon, and GITS, great films. I'll be checking out Appleseed.

  8. I bought a pair of Grado's...I've never been so amazed by headphones. And they were $100! Blow away $200 Sony studio headphones, and my buddy's Sennheiser (although I'm not sure what model he has). I have the Grado SR-80's. You can find them for under $100.
  9. Wow...I almost can't believe I'm reading this thread. Someone peed in someone's wheaties this morning (don't worry, not talking about you Bonzo!) Anyway, my Klipsch speakers are about the only part of my HT I HAVEN'T had any problems with. I'm on my second (replaced under waranty) HK AVR525, and my third (exchanged) Hitachi TV. I'm on my first pair of RF3-II's, RC-3-II, and RS3-II's. I'm on my first pair of Promedia 2.1's. And I'm on my first pair of RB25's. All work and look great.

Oh. My. God. My head is going to explode.
  11. Just to clear up some false/confusing statements here: DLP and HDILA and LCD are three totally separate technologies. HD-ILA is actually LCOS, or Liquid Crystal on Silicon. The JVC models do use 3 chips, and have a better black level than LCD, but have been prone to breakdown (the newer models are said to be more reliable). They still do not reach the black levels of DLP. LCD is a good choice if you don't care about deep black levels. LCD is the cheapest (usually) of the three technologies. DLP has the best black levels, most uniform picture (low screen-door effect, or tight pixel grouping..whatever you want to call it), and overall sharpest pic...but they use a colorwheel. IF you are sensitive to the 'rainbow effect' these sets are not for you. I bought the Panny 51" dlp, and loved the pic, but the rainbows made me crazy. I ended up settling for a Hitachi CRT. Yes, it's big, but it still has the best blacks and best overall pic (most film-like). It's only drawback is it doesn't have the light output of hte above technologies, but that's OK for me since I can control the lighting in my HT. Anyway, just wanted to clear up the confusion, no offense. HDILA and LCD are not DLP, they are 3 separate technologies. Sony does not currently make DLP sets, they're sticking with LCD (it's easy to see why, their LCD sets are great). Here's a good DLP review site. He's started reviewing LCD sets also. http://www.dlptvreview.com/ My choice for DLP is anything with the HD2+ chip in it. It is the best DLP 720p chip out, and has the best blacks (competes with CRT). Panasonic and Mitsubishi both make 51" models with this chip in them. Also, Samsung makes some as well.
  12. Natgun is right. They do display a true 1080p signal. A progressive signal requires that all pixels be drawn at 60fps. The dlp chips operate MUCH faster than this, so one mirror is drawing two lines of pixels at a much higher rate than that 60fps, producing a progressive signal. As for the color wheel, it doesn't affect the resolution but sure does produce rainbow effects..I sold my DLP and got a CRT because of this..but I do think that 3 chip DLP sets will be the standard in the future. As for sources....it's already confirmed that the PS3 (Sony Playstation 3) will support 1080p through HDMI, on up to two monitors simultaneously. This was announced at E3 in May.

Yeah, when you can make a movie this effective for $7000! (that's right, 7 g's), then who need big budget crap with bloated pampered over-rated actors. Ahem, OK, I'm done. haha.

Great flick. One of my college day favs. I will say that the psuedo-science is kind of hokey here and there, but the overall concept is amazing.
  17. Also, although a 'fresh' install will definitly help, it's not a magic solution. If you keep your PC maintained behind the scenes, you don't need a fresh install. My XP install was over a year old when I installed SP2, no problems. No speed reduction, no nothing.
  18. Hate to shoot you down, McGoo, but there's something else amiss. I'm running an AMD Athlon 1600XP, a lot slower than your 2600. And I'm running 512 megs of ram. Right now I've got 36 processes running, and am only using 295 megs of ram. Even during intensive computing, I never page (never use all my ram and start paging to disk). I've been running service pack 2 since it's release quite a while ago, and I have no problems at all with it. You may want to look at some of the other stuff on your computer. Again, not trying to be a jerk or anything, just saying, SP2's not the problem.
  19. There's a torrent for a decent version floating around out on the web for the time being...decent video, 16:9 aspect ratio, 5.1 sound (not that great but still 5.1). I'm buying the DVD when it comes out but this is a nice tide-over.

Holy crap. Watched it last night and LOVED it. I'm still sorting it out in my head, definitely not for the easily frustrated. I just loved the feel of the movie, almost like a weird dream, the futility that starts to build as they realize what they have done. Awesome. I'll probably watch it again this weekend.
  21. There's NO WAY you need to spend $400 on a power supply. Look at some of the power conditioners/surge protectors from Tripplite if you want something that WORKS (very well respected company) and is given at a reasonable price (got one that handles up to 1200 watts for $120).

    Batman Begins

Yes, Christopher Nolan's talent shines in this one. As well as Michael Cane, Morgan Freeman, Christian Bale, Rutger Hauer, etc. Katie Holmes was pretty good too, for a scientologist...haha.

    Batman Begins

CAn't believe noone has posted anything about this movie yet. Saw it last night..it's GREAT. By far the best Batman film, puts the others to shame. Awesome cast, story, sound, visuals...great stuff.

    God of War

Well, it's a straightforward action game, so I'd say that it doesn't really compare to either. I loved the first MGS, but 2 and 3 bored me to tears. Haven't played FF X, so don't know. It's gotten higher overall ratings than both on major websites and magazines. If I had to directly compare it to a game, it'd be Devil May Cry, but about 10,000 times more fun and ruthless.
