  1. earlier I mentioned it feeling like IN... It was 75` and 79%r/h. Made chicken chili... didn't really need [all] the Sambal sauce I put in it. It had a bite. The slow burn type of hot. Didn't notice how warm it was until after it hit my stomach. I had beads of sweat on my brow when I finished the bowl. I'd rate it a good solid medium in heat. Hot is too warm to eat... Wife knocked off work early. Got home about noon thirty... just before the flash flood warning. no new news on FIL. I trust things are as good as can be or we would have heard about it. there were two crickets in plain sight when I came into the doghouse. Killed them. I'm not getting competition from them over the stereo. For the last two weeks, as soon as I put music on... they would start chirping. I warned them. Net is slow/weak. That I can say that is something. We have electricity.
  2. that's kinda what I thought, too. Was telling wife that portion of the brain deals with autonomous functions, like breathing. He seems to be doing better than I would have expected.... not complaining... just surprised I get updates from wife thru her sister... prolly no new news until this evening. I credit his speedy recovery with a little help from my friends thank again. ------------------------------------------------------- Kinda feels like a nice summer morning in IN. Moist and a little cool. My rolling papers [interleaved] have turned to toilet paper. Pull one and the rest trail out. They just peel apart, until it dries out. That doesn't look to be happening for a few days. 60% chance of precip today/tomorrow... Flash Flood Watch thru tomorrow. Fried chicken last night. Need to do something with the other half... I have an idea. Not a recipe... This could be interesting. Chicken chili. Green chile sauce with pinto beans. We will see.
  3. I was looking for CW's and came home with LS. I had to wait the worst way.... owning them, but being separated by 2000 miles.. Then stuffing them in a stupidly small car and driving them home. I think it was 3 months of looking and 6 months of waiting, after the purchase. It will happen when the time is right. Do be ready to jump when the right deal comes... it won't last long
  4. Yeah, I'm amazed at how well he's doing. Weather right now... 75` sunny and raining. Sun is setting and it's shining under the little cloud that is raining on us. If you are west of us a few... be a dandy rainbow.
  5. Same as me. I dunno about that stuff. He's home now. Wife is talking to him on the phone. To say the least, we are all most pleased.
  6. First things first FIL's stroke was a brain stem stroke[?]. Got to the hospital too late to mitigate damage. The good news... he's being discharged -- this afternoon. Has a bit of a hitch in his gait.. but... He seemed to enjoy the attention from the nurses... as long as they were female. Thank to all for the thoughts/prayers! Oldtimer --- never ate squirrel Cremated eggs are bad. Every blow up a potato? They're pretty bad. The popcorn stink is still lingering. I've had a busy day. Started out with normal things. Vac and empty the vac. Then I went up on the roof to do a patch. Came down and had to launder my clothes. Threw them in the machine and all it did was make noise. Oh great?!? A plastic "fuse" in the drive broke... Easy fix, but still have to pull the motor/pump and install the part, which I have/had several. Wife has learned about overloading... I went to our salvage yard and pulled 3 or 4 when I had the opportunity... so, I had parts. Then it rained. The roof patch was successful. Then I fried some chicken....
  7. I expressed my concerns to my wife... I don't quite know what to think one nice thing half of her students are, more or less, family. It's a weird situation... but our grand spends half of her time with them. So, we have been exposed to them, at least.
  8. No kids today. Should only be 4 people in the building. The whole staff. Small school. I think they have 20 kids this year... K - 8 All of the staff have several "titles" More positions than staff. Wife is head teacher, Principal, superintendent and teaches K- 4. The other teacher has 5 - 8, is special education teacher and substitute bus driver. Bus driver is teacher aide ... Receptionist is admin asst.... she's "the negotiator" Bronx girl....
  9. Most of the time I "play", I close my eyes ....If it sounds good, I'll try to keep it going... if not... I turn the keyboard off and say "I wasn't feeling it today".
  10. Mornin' all How's everyone this AM? Fresh coffee -- Peruvian. Bread is making Comfortably cool... thoughts of going to the lake. The threatening weather will keep some folks away. The first... er..last 6 miles of ArivacaRd [mile 23 - mile 17] can be a real bugger in the rainy season. Town is on the west end of the road, so, it counts down as you approach town...One place, a wash runs down the road and then there are 4 [other] washes that present a challenge in that stretch. It's actually only about 4 miles that all of that happens... No news on FIL... wish I could tell ya something good on that. Wife starts work today. I don't imagine she will be there long. Weather is a major consideration... The kids don't get near as many "snow days" as rain days off. Still don't know how school is gonna be conducted this year. Everyone is making it up as they go along. The situation is fluid. I felt inspired to play my "call for rain" composition... we got a little later in the evening... maybe 1/4in. With wife starting work, she gets to hear the phrase she is soooo fond of "Honey, it's time to get up". Can't do impromptu early AM fishing "trips". Wife will set her alarm when she knows I'm going.... Think I'm gonna take the boy next trip to the lake. Need to show him how to catch a fish. Needs some learnin' to outsmart a creature with a brain half the size of a pea. I don't know if he even knows how to tie knots he needs. I only use 4... Palomar, dropper loop, trilene knot and a non-clinching [Rapala] knot..that one is a fancy bowline. Could scare him and show him a Bimini twist.... But that's something you only see on saltwater rigs.
  11. When it comes to artistic work, I think study can stifle creativity. Creative work suffers from conventional wisdom, too
  12. covers are OK. There are plenty by well known artists. LedZeppelin, Hendrix, JeffBeck, Cream, LittleFeat and on and on have done cover Doing your own tunes .... nobody can say you did it wrong.
  13. wasn't my idea... I was napping and the stink woke me.
  14. y'all don't know how much better I feel knowing you are helping. Much appreciated Thanks again Bill
  15. Thanks all ...on the lighter side of things. Wife did a little "science experiment" yesterday. She made microwave popcorn.. I know. I know Burned it. Not just a little. Asked her if the bag caught fire. And steeeeeeenk. Not even a stoner could like the smell. Still airing the place.
  16. Hi folks I don't ask much or often Could y'all say a prayer for my father-in-law? He's 80 and had a stroke today. His name is Albert . thanks
  17. I often wonder why health insurance rarely covers dental. Bad teeth is/are[?]the cause of many health problems..... aside from the obvious. hope you get your prob sussed out, BSM
  18. Boy was eating hummus yesterday. Wife says she doesn't care for it. Told her that it is just refried beans made with garbonzos instead of pintos.
  19. Made the trip to the Dr and back.... The A-10s are "saving" Moyza Ranch again today. Think we missed most of the fun. Last week [on the Dr trip] we got buzzed. Almost like looking in the rear view mirror and see a KW grill. Treetop level.... and the trees aren't very tall. Remember the scene in Jewel of the Nile, where they are escaping in a earthbound jet? Near that low. We won't be needing to make that run for a little while, I hope. Wife's eyes are healing up nicely.Wife was in the office for 25 min. I was about to get comfortable [nap] when she opened the car door and startled me.
  20. my wife is a teacher. we are leaning toward hybrid schooling. Fortunately, the school/district is small [~20 students] and doesn't face the scale that large school systems have. A hybrid system will keep the head count to ~10 students in the building at a time. Pure remote schooling is a no go when you are teaching the kids to read and write. Worried? Oh, yeah. We are both in the high risk group.
  21. I agree this is where I come to get away from it...
  22. the astrologists will tell you that there are 5 planets in retrograde... and discourse will result. No, I am not into that stuff. But, that is what they will say. How do I know this? I have friends that are. I'm not a CTer, either... but know it all the way to the Illuminati being lizard aliens. I have friends that are. A month into our "rainy season" and it might get started... 70% chance of rain tomorrow. I expect it will be too humid to rain. All cloud and no action. trying to keep my post light... pretty bummed at the prospect of the Lounge being shut down.
  23. I'll miss it, if they do close it down. I've made a few friend here... and hope to stay in contact with let's put the flame throwers down and appreciate varying opinions... Would be a very boring world, if we all agreed on everything. Embrace diversity and respectfully disagree
  24. I liked to think the site I was a mod on as a "no asbestos needed" zone. Trolls got the ban hammer
