  1. 13 degrees this morning and everything is icy due to freezing rain the other day. Nothing like an ice skating rink on the backroads! Oh the joy of living in Illinois. Although, on a somewhat positive note, school was cancelled again today as there are not enough bus drivers and substitute teachers to cover the ones out with covid in order to run a school day. If this continues, we will be back on remote learning tomorrow.
  2. A bucking magnet is only to make the speaker shielded for close placement to CRT TV's, It's a mute point these days and has no audible effect on sound. I had several sets of RF-3's and I did an A/B comparison between the set I installed these new woofers in and an all original set. (I use a speaker switch, so I can instantly switch back and forth for immediate comparisons) I could hear no difference under normal listening conditions. I'm sure someone who connected everything up to neat equipment to take super precise measurements could measure a difference... but then these are the same people that tell you putting your speaker cables on little pucks to keep them off the carpet make a difference too! If your worried about it, replace all 4 like I did... then I just sold the slightly damaged ones to people who just needed a woofer to play sound and didn't care about what it looked like. (One guy said he always keeps the grill on now, so he will never see the slight crease in the cone!) I think I priced the blemished ones around $20 each and they all sold within several months. Over the remaining life of the speaker, the extra $$ you put into it is negligible. Plus, it also updates the look of the speaker if you plan on not using the grill (that some/most of the little tabs probably fell off anyway!) I hope this helps.
  3. Simply speakers has them direct for $84 and you don't have to go through eBay. I ordered 4 of them last year to replace the drivers in my RF-3. They are original Klipsch drivers and fit perfectly. The connectors are different, but I just soldered the speaker wires directly to the speaker terminals. (You could also use crimp-on style quick disconnect clips if so desired) I hope this helps. Also, if you look on their page, they address this issue and offer a solution.... "The terminals connectors on this woofer may be a slightly different size than your original. You can request that we send slip-on connectors in the notes section of your order if using for one of these alternate models. Or you can cut the terminal to fit your wiring." https://reconingspeakers.com/products-page/klipsch-1011974-rf-82-mkii-woofer/
  4. I have one port remaining! The other one is soon to be on it's way to fdaless63!
  5. Ahh, sorry, I haven't checked in for a bit.... PM sent to fdaless63.
  6. I listed the OEM driver for sale. I think if it doesn't sell by the time I'm done refinishing the cabinet, then I will put it right back in and call it a day! If it sells, then I will use that to offset the cost of that HE-22-15 driver and see what that's all about. I did notice the passive radiator enclosure recommendation as well! I have built many speakers over the years, but I never built any with passive radiators, mainly for 3 reasons. 1.There was a lack of clear info on cabinet volume, weights, etc. back when I was building a lot more speakers. 2. Cost and availability when I was building a lot of speakers - High school and College... think late 80's and well into the 90's Hmm, should I add a passive radiator or should I buy many cases of beer!?!?! 3.Later on, I never liked the way my Klipsch sw-12's and sw-15's with PR's blended with my Forte II's, also with PR's.
  7. Hello all, I'm looking for one of these beasts. Anyone have one they are considering selling? I'm located in the Western burbs of Chicago and would prefer a relatively local sale as these are very inconvenient and costly to ship! (Plus, eBay is now charging tax on used gear!) Thanks.
  8. I'm pretty sure the most common reason goes something like this: Problem: The dude wants a good set of floor standing speakers. The wife wants Bose cube speakers that fit into the décor better. Solution: Dude agrees to let wife place foliage on said speaker to spruce it up a bit if allowed to purchase. End Result: After a while, care in not taken when watering said foliage, and viola! You have a mess! Future design suggestions: Klipsch, can you please build a speaker that isn't always a perfect box? Add a little slope as to deter said wife from placing plant on nice speaker. (See exhibit A) Or put little objects up on top that don't allow easy placement. (See exhibit B ) Or better yet, make them so tall and slanted that there is almost no way the wife will get out a step ladder to tackle that challenge (See exhibit C) Exhibit A Exhibit B Exhibit C
  9. New Egg has these Klipsch on sale for a good price if you're looking for something like this. Plus, it's the cherry color!!! Usually it's the black finish that's always available. https://www.newegg.com/klipsch-1060686/p/0S6-0033-001D7?Description=klipsch&cm_re=klipsch-_-0S6-0033-001D7-_-Product
  10. Hello all, I recently acquired these X-statik speakers (along with another set). There is a ton of info about them online. Also, you can go to GR Research and look up the x-statik kits (remember, the kits are for just the electronics and drivers, not the cabinets... that's another $700 at least!) I had two sets, I sold one set the other day and decided to find these a new home as well and continue my never ending adventure into audio nirvana. These are nice speakers. The peerless tweeters are amazing and the open baffle mids are pretty awesome. They just didn't oust any of my current speakers, so, they are available. (I now have a policy to keep my speaker addiction at bay....if one comes in, one must go out!) All drivers are in perfect condition. The peerless tweeters are brand new (Receipt available) and the R2 resistors in the crossover network were upgraded to a Mills 5 ohm 12 watt. (Receipt also available) The cabinets have the typical hairline cracks in the finish, but not noticeable from a few feet away. There is a little chip in the hardwood veneer at the bottom of one speaker as well. Use as is or it would be super easy to put new custom veneer on these. Detachable bases are also included with threaded inserts for spikes. As always, garage audition available... bring your favorite tunes, and perhaps a beverage to share! I have an emotiva USP-1 pre-amp and either Rotel or Emotiva X series amps for you to use if you like. Or, if you just want to verify that all of the drivers work, we can rock my 32 year old Kenwood KA-127 integrated amp in my garage! (This thing just refuses to die!!!) Location: Western Chicago burbs 60511 Asking $800 for the pair. Local pickup, unless you arrange transportation.

    .

Someone buy this! (Might look great under the tree or festivus pole?) These are built like tanks! I bought several K2's and K1's over 20 years ago and not one has had a single issue. I still use the K2's for my subwoofer amps on several systems.
  12. Brand new (and currently unavailable, as they are on back-order... like everything else these days!) This has very small blemishes on the face plate due to slight rubbing during shipping. This does not effect the sound. It tests perfectly, as it is brand new. I will include another face-plate that has a perfect front if you want to swap it out. This is a wonderful sounding tweeter. There is a ton of info online about it. SPECIFICATIONS Frequency Range 1k - 20kHz Free Air Resonance 600Hz Nominal Impedance 6 ohms DC Resistance 4.5 ohms Voice Coil Diameter 25 mm Max Power 100 watts Sensitivity 94 db Face plate size 3.925" Face plate depth .2" Asking $50 for local pickup in the burbs of Chicago 60511 $65 for shipping
  13. Nothing is wrong with the driver. It's actually in perfect condition. I'm always tinkering and trying to find ways to improve what I have (usually on a budget, as I'm a teacher) So, I go down the rabbit hole online to find out what other people have done. I have read a post on forums were they replaced the driver with "improved" results. Now what that means, I don't know, as that is very subjective. Maybe they just say it was an improvement to justify their expenditures!!! Who knows? However, when many people say they realized improvements with upgrades, there is usually something to that. I am a person who likes to actually hear an improvement, not just a difference. I'm sure some improvements might be measurable with super awesome equipment (like the difference between a $10 run of speaker cable and a $1000 run of speaker cable.... sure, there may be a measurable difference on equipment, but is there really an audible difference.... or is it more of a placebo effect to justify the $$$ spent?!?!?! ...not to open a can of worms about cables, etc.) So, to make the long story even longer, I was looking to see if anyone has this sub and done any mods to it before I blindly jump in. p.s. When using a ported sub (I don't often use them) I always cut 20hz and below...usually at a 24dB slope. I learned that trick when I used to DJ starting way back in college... I could get a lot more spl's out of my 18" subs when I cut them off at 40hz with a 12db slope... and nobody ever came over to me and complained about a lack of bass! (Usually it was a complaint about a lack of booze!)
  14. I recently picked up an AV123 MFW-15 sub. Like almost all of them, the sub amp made the famous buzz! So, I removed the amp and now I'm looking at potentially upgrading the driver. The only reason I'm considering modifying this sub is because it is just beautiful! (Needs a little sanding and refinish!) The veneer work on it is awesome and the build quality is great! Hello all, I know they have drop in amps available for almost $500, ( https://seatonsound.net/product/mfw-15-mk2-amp/ ) but I think I would rather just use one of my Crown K2's to power it. I'm really looking for 15" driver recommendations. From the external dimensions (18x22x24) I'm guessing the internal volume is around 4 cubic feet. I've used these before in my sealed subs for my 2.2 music system and I enjoy them very much, however, I don't know if they will perform as well with the vented enclosure. (I read one instance where someone tried this and loved it) https://www.parts-express.com/Dayton-Audio-RSS390HF-4-15-Reference-HF-Subwoofer-4-Ohm-295-468 I just saw these, and they look like they may be a better fit for the vented enclosure... but a lot more $. Also, they are brand new, so no long term performance info yet. https://www.parts-express.com/Dayton-Audio-RSS390HE-22-15-Reference-Series-High-Excursion-Subwoofer-22-ohm-295-292 Any thoughts would be helpful. Thanks!
  15. This would look great under the Xmas tree...or Festivus pole!
  16. I recently (this year) purchased pristine RF-62II's for $200 (With a cheap Yamaha receiver too!) and a black pair of RF-82's for $400 (Very small mark in the vinyl on the side of one speaker) Ebay, Craigslist, etc. are all over the place for pricing. Ultimately, when selling, I start at what I ideally want out of a set of speakers. If after awhile there are no inquiries, I lower the price a bit and wait. You will eventually get an offer at what they are worth...or at least what someone is willing to pay for them. You just can't be in a hurry to sell! (or buy for that matter)
  17. Ports still for sale... stocking stuffer???

Update: It was a Firefox Issue...ugh!

    sold

Yes. I tried updating the title twice, but ever since the forum was "upgraded" a bit back, it takes forever to load and doesn't work! Typical of upgrades in this day and age.
  20. Good luck with your sale. The $400RF 82II's and $200 RF 62's were both local sales, as I never buy used speakers that need to be shipped! There is too much room for damage and drama from the transaction.
