  1. I picked this up yesterday from forum member pollyoscar3722. Great transaction BTW. Held it for me until I found time to travel a bit. Someone else asked I do a review of it when I get it. I'll make an attempt at brevity. Here goes.

The system it's attached to is:Fisher 440T with 500T output (30+ watts?) and rebuilt-Schiit Modi 3+(the real surprise for me)-Wiim Mini streamer feeding '79 Heresy 1 all OEM and the KG SW also OEM as far as I can tell.

I began by positioning it in between the Heresy off to the left with ports facing me. The system is about 12-13 feet away from the speakers so I had to scavenge speaker wire from everywhere to make it work as it's passive and everything runs through the sub. At first I had the sensitivity on high. Too much for me so I changed it to low. Then I listened to everything. Carly Simon,Emerson Lake and Palmer,Crack The Sky,Macy Gray,Diana Krall,Little Feat,Dire Straits....I mean everything. Even listened to the Telarc recording of Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overturn by the Cincinnati Philharmonic with the cannons. For about 5-6 hours. Then this morning I listened to Dark Side of The Moon. Because I know it. At least I thought I did. It was a different collection. I heard things never noticed.

It's just what I sought. A way to fill out the range of the system without muddy sloppy noise that passes for....oops nevermind. It seems to have eased the load on the Heresy woofer allowing it to do what it does better. The whole soundstage seems bigger in all dimensions and spacious. Bass is brought forward without being forward. It is crisp clean and integral to the music as it was meant to be. For now I'll just listen where it is then maybe I'll change position. I did turn the ports away from listening position but it lost the speed it had.

Hope this makes sense to anyone who reads it. This system is my introduction (at 63) to this level of sound quality. I thought my stuff in the '70s was good. Don't mean to gush but this sounds so good I'm afraid to screw with anything. Think I might be done for awhile. I'm surprised the Fisher is as good as it is.

  2. It gets better. Bought a Wiim Mini streamer. Running it through my Schiit Modi 3+ into the Fisher. Dayum. A significant improvement over my iMac. I knew it would get better 'cause the Mac is only good for 96/24 and the streamer is good for 192/24. Really didn't think it would be as big a move but it is. Sat down to listen to a song and didn't get up for an hour and a half. Oh and the hiss is gone too. :D

Now to figure out why the turntable has begun making noise. Never ends does it?

Cannot wait to get the sub.

  3. I picked up a pair of 1979 Heresy 1 a few weeks ago. Was driving them with my Topping PA3s and began to understand why everyone says they've no bass. I could hear it clear but there was no body to it. Crisp and clear-no presence. A Klipsch KG SW sub became available here. Figured  that would cover it and I'm sure it will.

Also spent the past few weeks on placement and got it where I was OK with soundstage...OK maybe a little disappointed. So I began looking at amplifiers. Torn between Yamaha A-S801 and Schiit Vidar. In the end the cost between would be similar 'cause I'd need a pre for the Vidar.

Last night I was sitting around and decided to bring my Fisher 440T out from the bedroom system and see how they sounded when paired with the old Fisher. The 440T is the reason I sought vintage Heresy anyways. Oh my! They have come alive....bass....soundstage gained height width and depth. And the overall  sound is much improved. Lost some way high detail and there's a hiss but it's minor and only audible when nothing is playing so I can deal with it. For now. Kinda like going to a concert and the PA set up has some hiss. And all this is through a cheap Logitech bluetooth adapter which I'm sure isn't the best audio path. I'm still going to pick up the sub 'cause I want a passive sub that will extend the range but not one made more for HT.

I'm beginning to understand synergistic pairings. Now what to do for the bedroom......

  4. My first winter in this house. It's rural. The water system has the ability to be run by a generator. And I've 2 sources,a well and a spring. All it takes is a couple valves and turn on a different pump. But frozen water presents issues it cannot cope with. I need to fix that. I'll be able to go "off grid" in the next year or so.

Well Merry Christmas to me. Woke up to no water. Pipes frozen. Supply shut off and water heater too. Dammit. I have to work  so it'll be a few days before I have water at home.

Well I've returned to the 19th century. I have hot and cold running water again. I gotta take some steps to insure this doesn't happen again.

All it takes is to stumble onto a hive and disturb them. Life is dangerous and your safety is your own responsibility...no one else's. Learn and act accordingly.

we've had a quiet day. The kids came and went.

I fixed a venison roast. It came out good. I expect them back for some.

gathered up some wood ... put some in the wheelbarrow ... and was coming back to the house when I came across a rattlesnake sunning. Little one. 3 rattles. I guess it hatched last year. It won't see its birthday.  It had an unfortunate collision with a shovel.

    life in the desert

    Why did you kill it?

We have Copperheads around here and they have a bad attitude. I don't kill them. We have Timber Rattlers too. Leave them alone as well. They mean me no harm unless I f*&k with them and I don't. Treat them with a healthy respect. Going on 64 and haven't been bitten yet.
