  1. BruinsFan: I've got two RCW-5s in the rear wall of my theater about 5 ft off the floor and they seem to work great on our 7.1 setup when watching cable TV sources. They do not come on while viewing standard 5.1 DVDs. Having RCW-5's 7 feet off the floormight be a bit high I think, but it's probably okay. I understand you must clear a window so if you do place them there you will probably have to compensate by placing them sideways (horns outboard) and pivoting the horns down to aim them at your seating area. You may also consider increasing their volume settings just a bit. BTW: When you go to chose a spot above that window, just keep in mind that there is probably a thick header in the wall right above that window, so be sure to allow for that when you make your first hole. Best of luck on your project! My two-cents-worth on subs: I like my Klipsch RSW-15 just fine, thank you very much! -Picky

Rob --------------------------------------------------------- Thanks, Rob! thebes: Yeah it is interesting that we've not heard of many executives from just about any industry these days that is actually hurting, except for those who have gotten caught with their filthy, little hands in the "cookie jar". And, how are they punished? By being given a huge "golden parachute" severance package worth millions. I don't think I will ever understand that concept. But, that's just me. Take Kmart for example: Just prior to their bankruptcy, their former CEO Chuck Conaway got caught padding his income "just a bit". So, much in fact that he built this 15,000 square foot mansion in Rochester Hills, Michigan just north of here. Naturally, after he was removed from his position, he sold his house. But, guess who had the money to buy it and is living there now? None other than Eminen (Marshall Mathers)! -Picky
  3. lancestorm: If you dare watch this movie without a sub, we will all send you to your room! Then, EAR will come to your house and give you an extensive, 3-day subwoofer brainwashing! Trust me: You definitely will benefit from a sub when viewing this movie! I see you are running a 4.1 system. What sort of sub do you have now and what are you looking to buy, if I may ask? BTW- It's good to see that the Reds picked up a win yesterday! The Tigers are on a very suprising 3-0 roll. They've been so-o bad the last 10 years! Hopefully, they are turning things around now. -Picky
  4. dkp: The IMAX I saw Revolutions at was at the Henry Ford in Dearborn near Detroit. They have speakers made by an IMAX subsidiary: Sonics Associates, Inc. Here's the link to their theater's info page: http://www.hfmgv.org/imax/about.asp They use 12,000 Watts for lows, mids and highs and have 8-18 inch subwoofers! m00n: I'm glad you like the image I posted. I ran the DVD on my workstation at home, paused it, and then just did a screen grab using JASC Paint Shop Pro. Tonight's the night for us to watch that thang! In a really strange first game of the Stanley Cup playoffs last night, the Red Wings beat the Nashville Predators 3-1. Woo-Hoo! "Cup Fever" is alive an well in Detroit! -Picky

  6. Juba310: I have my RSW-15 set for LFE Mode and 80Hz, which is the THX calibrated frequency for LFE, although I don't believe 'Matrix:Revolutions' is done according to THX. I have always used this setting for all movies and HDTV and it seems to work with excellent results. I will be watching the movie tomorrow night as I'd mentioned earlier, but with all of the great reviews you guys are giving it, I almost wanna take this afternoon off from work and play hooky in my theater! m00n: You are certainly turning into the "Mad Tweaker!" I hope those RC-7s prove to have been worth all of the extra work you are going to! I admire your tenacity doood! I remember that it was you that first brought the "Machine God" voice up. I think that was back in November when the movie first came out. I saw it at the IMAX a day or two later and according to what Juba, Indy & Smilin have to say, I'm in for a real treat! I'll let you guys know how my little theater does! - Picky
  7. dgb: Although, I am a musician, I agree with you! My little two-year old grandson, Andrew didn't need any training to tell him to shuffle his little feet to just about any kind of music that he hears. What a happy, little guy! I guess ignorance is bliss in his case! -Picky
  8. Indy: OOPS! I guess that picture should have been posted in the two-channel forum? -Picky
  9. DrWho: I think you hit the nail on the head! I'm with m00n: Please post that paper! -Picky
  10. AVMAN: Yep. I'd be watching the movie on Wednesday night too but, being true hockey fans, my son and some of our friends are coming over to watch the Red Wings first Stanley Cup Playoff game against the Nashville Predators on the big screen. That should be a good game. Saturday's game will be in HD on ESPN-HD! Priorities, priorities! sg993: You are very welcome. Glad I could help! m00n: I KNEW you'd chime in here when I mentioned "The Voice"! It should be awesome, dude! ygmn: I liked the first and the third Matrix the best. Although there is quite a chase scene in 2 the fighting scenes got rather long-in-the-tooth forme. What I learned in 3 answered a lot of questions I had about 1 & 2. Sorry, I've only seen the original 'Godfather'. I guess I'd better check the others out! Thanks for the tip! -Picky - MATRIX: REVOLUTIONS + Best Buy BONUS CD
  11. I know a lot of forum members don't care much for the Matrix triolgy (and that's fine). But, I thought some of your might like to know the movie came out on a 2-disc, DVD this morning in both wide and full screen versions. I picked mine up at Best Buy during lunch and they were literally "flying" off the racks. One customer was even dressed like "Neo" with a full-length, black duster and Neo-type sunglasses {creepy-looking}. Walmart seems to have the lowest price of the "big boxes". Circuit City and Best Buy have a just-slightly higher price than Walmart, but both stores have the same price. The difference is that Best Buy includes a little business card-sized CD bonus disc in the shrink-wrap that includes some extra material including screen savers. I'll be viewing mine Thursday night with my son. I am looking forward to hearing how that "Machine God " voice sounds coming from my surrounds! -Picky
  12. dantfmly: We seem to have some similar experiences: Although I was raised in Michigan, I too was in the NAVY and was stationed in a remote place: Fallon, Nevada where I met my bride. I wound up living there 7 years total, three of which were after I was honorably discharged. I bought an old Teac A-3340S 4-channel reel-to-reel though the Navy Exchange (I still have it), for about $700 bucks when the list price was $1,400. That was a long time ago! Although I too love meat-and-potatoes, I also love fresh seafood. It does sound as if you and I have had some different experiences both with living in Virginia Beach and with our neighbors. I have been told by others that it isn't easy to be a serviceman and to live in the Norfolk area because of the way they are sometimes treated. I have witnessed such treatment on different levels first hand while I was a serviceman living in various parts of the country. As a civilian, I found the people in the Norflok area to be very warm and friendly, so I would imagine that both stories are true. As for my neighbors; we have been living in our present house for 25 years and not one complaint about our music. Thank goodness. We have great neighbors. We are very fortunate. Best of luck to you and your family! Thanks for helping to keep our country safe! -Picky "We have ships in drydock!"
  13. Audible: I could not agree with you more! I absolutely hate being "pidgeon-holed" by somebody else as they try to mentally stuff everyone they meet into their pre-conceived mold of what it is they think you are supposed to be based on your age, gender and ethnicity! PHOOEY! (for lack of a better, off-color-expletive). I guess I must really freak people like that out when I wear my "GERITOL" T-Shirt to Red Hot Chili concerts! HE-HEEEE! -Picky
  14. EMINEM He lives nearby yet I don't understand the level of his popularity. ie.: "I don't get it." (as the thread asks) But, I do not knock those who do appreciate his work. I enjoy all forms of music (always have) and an enormous wealth of artists. I just like some artists more than others, and some, like Eminem, I just don't get. Music is both subjective and personal. I wish Sir Mix-A-Lot would make a comeback. Now, that guy was funny! One group that I absolutely love is ZZ Top. Now that's one group that 2/3rd of this country doesn't get! And, that's okay. -Picky "Beer Drinkers, Hell-Raisers & Fuzzy Guitars, forever!"
  15. Michael: Thanks to you and to dantfmly for pointing that out. I'd better stick to that Fusor stuff you were talking about. Perhaps I'll have them all fixed by the time you come out here to visit (if you have time) next month? dantfmly: By the way, I see you are from Virginia Beach. Great place! I worked down in Norfolk for nearly a year back in 1995 on a special assignment for Ford and I got an apartment in VA Beach druing that time. I would have loved to get a permanent assignment that would have made Tidewater my new home! But, it didn't work out that way. Ever been to Croakers (on Shore Drive)? Awesome She-Crab Soup, Conch Chowder and blackened shrimp!! I sure do miss the area. -Picky
  16. old Klipsch fan: Have you considered installing the rears into the back wall? I'm not famliar with your room but I chose to use RS-7s for my side-surrounds, and RCW-5's in the rear walls. I'm running 7.1 through a Pioneer Elite VSX-49TXi and they sound great! I will admit that I installed the rears in the wall to save every bit of space I have due to the small size of my room. That may not be the case in your situation. In-walls speakers admittably are a compromise to using external (box-type) speakers. -Picky
  17. EAR: Well? It's "NEXT MONTH!" .....WHERE'S THE SUB?? -Picky
  18. "COO-EWL!" Thanks for the tip, dantfmly! I'll give it a whirl and let you know. -Picky
  19. BBB: Hey, I know just the speakers to go with that... -Picky
