  1. Hello Jim, Yes, the Jubilee model in your pictures is something I want my Belle to be, thanks you for your post, so I shall look for my wood horn, hope I have some luck. Hello Khorn 58, Do you own a 58 made Khorn? Does it have a wood horn, can you show us some pictures. I search in audioaylum, some say old Khorn have a better construction like a tank. Tubelion.
  2. My next upgrade is to try wood horn if these are available. Anyone has tried this before? know how to order from some horn maker? I understand that this may never be done before. But people talk a lot of how to dampen the horn, isn't it better to have a wood horn. People do modification on the carbinet, isn't it more beautiful to have wood horn and remove the upper carbinet? and the k77 horn is small and should be easier to make by wood. Tubelion
  3. Hello Randy, Thanks , yes I will take care. The sound is getting better, I have only half an hour so to hear music a day, it is a slow process. I will make the all vit Q type A in my La Scala when thing settle a bit, will let you know the result, if it sounds good , it is a big bargain. Good luck Tubelion.
  4. Dear cut throat, Glad to see your crossover, woo!!! beautiful. The choice of wood does affect the sound a lot.How much does the wood cost you? My ebony board is more expensive than the transformer. Solen is good in the neutrality, excellent price performance ratio, right? Otherwise better quality parts from different brands have their signature in sound. As I mentioned when the value of type A is so low, it is not too expensive to buy better parts, many high end speaker use Solen, it can't be wrong, but the value like 100mf give no other choice to high end caps. 13mf and 2mf give us freedom to use a bit more expensive ones if we can keep our jobs Concerning oil caps or not, my initial experiment military oil caps against MIT, where military caps are so cheap, just a few dollars, oil caps won with a great margin. I am not talking about details or upper and lower end extension, it is much more harmony, you want to keep listen, another obvious advantage is the stage and 3D, oil caps is better. The WE caps is another league right now. My report is confined as being an SET 300b fans, the solid state fans just have to find out their way like protection etc. I heard TCC from UK is good too, but I just can't collect enough of them, they are equally expensive with WE. The tips of using oil caps in our DIY friend is using multiple together, preferably same value. Try any oil caps with reasonable quality, let us know the result, but I think military grade and vitamine Q are the least you should try , as they are real cheap in these days. Forget the motor run, it is not fair to use it on audio. Tubelion
  5. Dear tony, Thanks for your congratulation. I have heard WE amplifier before , they are very famous and expensive in Asia, the sound is so good. The design and quality of parts is excellent, unlike other vintage include Marantz and Mac that I owned before, and these are so common right in Hong Kong, WE 's parts quality is much superior, may be they had a much lager price margin to accomplish that. I use a lot of modern caps before especially larger value caps, MIT , Solen caps etc. My type A in the La Scala actually using MIT, it sounds good , but not like my oil caps. It is because we need only 13mf and 2mf in the type A that I can use the best oil caps, otherwise the size and price would be unaffordably. Modern caps like Audionote and Jensen, I am using them. the 0.47mf 630V in the coupling of Jadis300B do the amazing job to improve further. I may do a comparision later , but as the sound right now sound really good, the fact that they are of the same era Klipsch and WE make me fell like they are best couples. At present I don't feel the need to change for a while. And the significant improvement over the military is beyond doubt in the first few hours, The WAF is always low for klipsch, but my wife now turn on the system herself that did not happen in the past 10 years, she said woo!!!! Try it, for those who has a doubt. I have bought another set of all vitQ caps before I completed my WE collection, I will try them on my La Scala, let you know the result, they are really cheap, 12X 2mf, 4x 1mf costs me 50US only. Tubelion
  6. Hello Rod, Yes, your query is very much justified, but I report what I hear, my system is very stable: MSB platinum reference CD, first sound passive reference preamp. Jadis 300B mono block. I am familiar with the sound. The woofer is directly connected to the woofer, it should sound the same. But the fact that the upper end did not open up at day 3 when I reported it, most striking difference is in the low end for example the instrument bass, the string harmonic has a lot more vibration and harmonic than before, I honestly report it, if the improvement is due to the improved mid-level which has some influence on the bass, I really don't know why. Anyone who has a WE caps can try. I do expect some more change after run-in. If you experiment and have result otherwise, let us know, WE caps is quite easily available in USA, it worths a try, I can buy it afterwards at a resonable price, if you don't like them. I used three months to collect all 6 pieces of 287A. Tubelion
  7. Hi Randy, I finally install the 3619 in the crossover. The WE oil caps all come from ebay. The last seller sold me 4 NOS 287A for 100USD. How are you? Hope you have luck and success in your business. We are busy to fight against atypical pnemonia, need music more than ever. tubelion
  8. This is my latest type A using famous western electric oil caps, the 287A caps 4mf is really good, the other oil caps are all WE. The 3619 is also replacing the original transformer. The sound is really good. Compare with my last prototype using military oil caps , it improves further in the low end with a lot of details yet very very musical. Every time better parts is used , the sound further improves as the type A is so simple, and therfore so revealing. Everyone using SET should try type A yourself.
  9. Lets not go there this was a joke !!!!!!!!!!! Lets not go there this was a joke !!!!!!!!!!!
  10. Hello HDBRbuilder, I think you have a good point here. "The K400 lens is the only one of the metal horn lenses that uses a two-piece core in its casting" As I own a pair of belle and La scala, does the belle horn have the same problem ? I am going to check my La scala's horn. Thanks very much for your sharing. Tubelion
  11. Hi, I have my all western electric oil caps ready now, together with the 3619 transformer, will let you know how good they are for a type A crossover. The WE caps are very expensive, people did not try them , will never know the quality, it is interesting to compare we with motor run. Tubelion
  12. I have the AL3 in my LS , having try the wondeful type A in my Belle, I have destroyed the AL3 in three minutes and convert it to type A too, If I know it worth some money, I would sell it intact, now I only keep the board and transformer for the type A , and have the rest parts in a bag. the type A works perfect for both speaker, for the LS, even my nurse and patients can hear the significant improvement , even though they don't know what have I done. Concerning the cost of the parts for type A, for 30 dollars, you have have reasonable quality beacuse all you need is 13 and 2 mf caps, forget the coils, the bass is more lively. My type A for the Belle at home is built with western electric tcc and telefunken oil caps, they are great, the cost is still very resonable at below 100. try yourself.
  13. Hi, I am looking for NOS PIO , Jensen is cheap comparing with tcc , not to say WE. Audio grade PIO is much different from motor run. I pay 80 still can't win the 1mf tcc a pair. 1ust lose a WE 4mf at about 50. I agree with Kelly, few people have listened to good PIO caps, those have the experience pay big money to get them. To be fair, try the good reputation one before you say PIO is no good, Jensen will only be a good start. Kelly is also right that PIO need break in, asylum has opinion to break in these caps at the designed voltage say 600V before put on the circuit which have a lower voltage as a reserve. So try a break in good PIO, then you will do what I am serching. It is much more difficult to get than tungsol, kenrad vt231 , or metal base 6sn7w take 6sn7 as a comparison to PIO caps, anyone knows how to get these NOS PIO will be much appreciated. Apart from PIO, Jensen has good electrolytic 4-pole caps, I am trying them and copper PIO in my Jadis 300B. Tubelion
  14. Randy, Not yet, still waiting for 3619. I am buying different oil caps to experiment the best combination. These NOS caps are very expensive, check the ebay price, Ooooh, ask for 125 for a pair of WE 4mf oil caps. DJK I will find out the spec. using the inductance bridge, hopefully no need to destroy the T4a.
  15. Dear DJK, Thanks for your information. Glad to know you are getting better The resistor is not going to replace the autotransformer, rather in series with it. I would rather know the specification of the transformer and custom one with more taps and atenuation steps, when I got my 3619, I waited for more than a month, I will dissect the T4a which have only one tap, one tap only, and ask my technicians to find out the spec. Any idea about the spec. of the autotransformer is very much appreciated, I will share with anyone if in the end I can custom good one with reasonabble price, Tubelion
  16. If I know the specification, I can custom in China that will be very reasonable. Or how to get the E24. Tubelion
  17. Dear DJK, What is the specification of your attenuator? Does it replace the autotranformer ? I always want to custom a high quality autotransformer, I just don't know the specification that the maker need to know. Your information is of great help Thanks Tubelion
  18. Try the type A first, search the recent discussion and looks at my photo. I have my Belle with AB2 change to A, and after wards I have my La Scala changed as well, the Belle's using best parts, sound really good, the LS using MIT is a big improvement too. Try, it does not cost you any, I guess even use the original 13 mf and 2 mf poor quality caps, you can still enjoy it, and you need not use the 2.5mh coils first, see if you like the more bass- direct way. The LS I take only one hour to change the AL3 to A. Do it quick, you won't be disappointed. One last thing , hope you are using tube amp, if not it may not apply to you. Good luck, let us know the result. Tubelion
  19. Type A is done with fair quality MIT caps- used and run in for 3 years. It sounds much much better than the AL3. No cost needed in this small project, after fine tuned my belle , I will go back and make the La Scala even better. Tubelion
  20. Hi, I just have built the type A in the La Scala in one hour work, it sounds great in the first few minutes, because all the parts are old used ones, no need to run in, even it is of fair quality parts, all MIT caps, it is much much better than the AL3 which some claim similar to newer design. I will upload the photos later when I have time, just too excited to report it, From now on I have good music at my office too. My technician 's comment, how can these parts be used in the crossover!? My shame to have tolerate the Belle for 10 years and the LS for almost 3 years. They are reborn. Do it as soon as possible, every klipsch owner, even with fair quality parts only. Tubelion
  21. Hi, One more thing, don't buy the oil caps at tony's web site, see it at ebay, much cheaper, especially with larger amout like 10 or 25 in one lot. Tubelion
  22. Hi, The size should not be a concern where you can always arrange it. More caps in parellel is better, I am thinking about have 13 amf russian oils caps if they sound good, 30 1 mf caps will complete the project. If you can accept payapl I can send you fund to conbime the order , we may get a better deal together, others in forum may also be interested. Tcc from UK is very good, anyone know what is the best NOS oil caps (no new Jensen please), let us know. Concerning silver wire , I try many before that others are not for horn as suggested by Guy, except the silver wire from audio-consulting.ch who make silver rock potentiometer, it make the high even the mid a lot better than 8N space and time. Concering the coils, no 2.5mh is available from solen, I suggest you forget it first because it may not be an essential parts, it is relatively expensive, you can but one when the bass is too much, TOO MUCH!? Have fun you will be very happy, let the klipsch reborn. I am about to finish converting the AL3 to type A in my office's LS, as the Belle sounds so good after AB2 to A. Good luck Tubelion
