  1. Holy Mackeroly! I mean DANG...........Those pictures tell the story of an EXTREMELY complicated build process - and very skillful work too. They look amazing. I'd love to hear "Frankenstein" (Edgar Winter) thought those Babies!!!!!
  2. as OO1 suggested, I looked closely at the diaphragm that I stupidly damaged by disassembling the K-77 the wrong way and I see that there is copper wire still connected to both POS and NEG sides of the unit (about 1/4" of super fine wire). Also, on my K-77, there's no plastic parts - it's all metal. The diaphragm sits down into a metal dish and the diaphragm seems to have a cardboard gasket attached to the back of it (maybe fused to it over time?). Not sure. It can't hurt for me to try and repair this diaphragm using the method suggested by tigerwoodKhorns - sounds......possible.....but, I doubt my chances are very good at success due to my less than expert soldering "skills". I'll let you guys know how it turns out. Also, since there is wire still connected to the diaphragm, I was able to get my meter on it and confirm that it has continuity. That's good news.
  3. 100% agree - and it's only the Cheapskate within me that would lead me to even considering "economy" solutions for my Heresy's.
  4. Understood - thanks very much for the sage advice on this - I definitely do NOT want to have my tweeters sounding anything other than exactly as they sounded when they left the assembly line in Hope back in 1977.
  5. You Klipschians are SO AWESOME, I swear to God. Thanks for all the responses and info. Considering purchasing 2 new aftermarket diaphragms from Simply Speakers for about $22 each to replace both. Pretty sure they will do the trick, but can anyone comment as to whether or not the horns will sound the same? Worse? Better? Any other sources for these diaphragms? @ Mark 1101: I'm also going to check out your drivers for sale - thanks for bringing that to my attention.
  6. Might as well ask this question as well: The reason I was taking this apart, was to see how the lens connected and how it separates from the magnet and diaphragm. I've been looking at the aftermarket lenses that replace the existing lens and mount flush to the front of the motorboard. How does the lens come off of the K-77?
  7. Bored and curious this morning, I removed the 4 screws from one of my K-77 Heresy Tweeters and wanted to see how it came apart - but I think in doing so, I've broken the electrical connections probably - wanting to see if anyone who knows about these drivers can confirm? Right now, I don't want to believe it, but I think I know the answer. If I have in fact broken it, of course the next question is: can it be repaired? Or will I need to purchase a new diaphragm? The wires coming off the diaphragm are smaller than sewing thread....can't see how they can be reconnected (by me). Thanks.
  8. It is in fact not steel - thanks for that correction Marvel.
  9. Thanks......thanks a LOT.......: > ) for posting this............looks like a pretty amazing shop for an old guy like me to spend.......... 1. Hours in - drooling, dreaming, shopping/haggling. 2. A significant % of his hard earned Retirement Money. 3. Enough time in only to realize he's forgotten exactly where he is or how he got there...... 4. See #2 and resulting consequence = "PO'd wife". I'm close enough to drive there and will definitely be checking it out.
  10. Yep, I think that's correct......the 7 is not clear at all. Anyway, very cool bit of Early Americana there.
  11. Ha - classic Get Smart - I was anticipating someone taking this in that direction - well done.
  12. Dave - I just checked out some pics of your La Scalas - you did a fine job and they are just beautiful. Cheers. 🍻
  13. In the process of restoring my decorator series 1977's Heresy's - and this morning, sanding off some of the black paint that *very well may* be original from the factory......here is why I say it may be factory original: I just removed the quarter size support and isolation feet (brand name: Domes of Silence) - D.O.S. modules I'm going to call them - and the black paint is found underneath those as well. I figure, if someone painted these Heresy's after the fact - they would probably not have removed those - but who knows, perhaps they, like me, were thorough. Anyway - the funny part is that 3 of the 6 D.O.S. modules (each speaker has 3 in a triangular pattern) have very snazzy and detailed Branding info stamped on the *inside* of them - and it occurred to me that no one aside from the Klipsch factory worker who originally installed them would really ever see that branding. Not sure why some of them have the branding and some do not. I plan to reinstall them after painting is completed.......they've worked for 45 years........I feel pretty confident they'll work for another 45.
  14. We are fairly proud of it - and I agree - a frame would definitely make it looks a bit more finished.
  15. A little late to this thread - My wife and I decided to try to create something artistic one evening and basically both just started painting, spraying, gluing on a piece of plywood...I had masked off those bare line you see with blue painters tape that we removed after we'd finished and it was dry...this was the result - and we hang it proudly in our home.

    RIP Cpl. AGARN

I watched F-Troop quite a bit when I was in 7th and 8th grade. I thought it was pretty hilarious. Larry was a niche actor for sure and quite talented. Read his Wiki just now - he stayed BUSY as heck it seems.
  17. Hello Oicu812 - thanks for the keen eye and question. I looked carefully at both woofers just now and what's seen in that pic is definitely not a crack - must be hair or fuzz. In fact, I looked the speakers and baskets over with a bright halogen light to be sure that they both look OK. Other than a mismatch of shade between the two speakers (one is much darker gray than the other) - they seem just fine.
  18. Badge on Horn is NM. Probably mid-70s but I don't know enough about old Altec stuff to really confirm date of Mfg. Horn was painted white at factory near as I can tell, paint has peeled/flaked in several places - I have scraped, cleaned and prepped the horn for painting - but won't paint it since you might want it to be a specific color. Horn weighs about 6 lbs, cast aluminum.
  19. Very much appreciated that you were able to confirm these 12's (expected any minute now via UPS) are correct/Klipsch woof's. Now, let's see if they are in the shape claimed by the Seller. Regarding X-overs: I will check out the JEM site - was thinking to just get Crites new units, but if mine can be brought back to factory specs, then that's what I'd prefer.
  20. Yes - cage is off and faceplate too - has been for over a year. All told, there are 4 "pushbuttons" on the Amp: (Left to Right) 1. Low Boost 2. Phono impedance 1 (push for 100k) 3. Phono impedance 2 (push for 100k) 4. Power button With the face off, and a straw, it's no problem to get DeOxit down into those switches. Others are quite difficult to get to from behind - so, I turned the Amp vertical yesterday and sprayed generous amount of DeOxit down into the switches spindles that I can't gain access to (without partial/substantial disassembly). Doing that definitely helped - because overnight, I now have **zero** static on any of the controls when I work them during playback. The switch I was asking about in my last post is a 3-way. So, here's what I learned TODAY..............LOL..............I was testing the Amp using Aux input jacks and my phone connected to RCA cable. Wondering if one of those jacks might have crapped the bed, I moved the RCA cable to 'Tuner' and was very happy to hear that now, in Stereo and also Rev modes, both channels play fine. So, the Left AUX input jack is inop. Solders look good, it's not the RCA cable. I was considering selling this amp for parts - glad that after joining this Community I was inspired to work on it again and now it's at least working at an acceptable level. It definitely needs full restoration from a qualified tech - I can tell the fidelity is not what it was when I purchased it off of Ebay back in 1998. I may still sell it - there are so many components I'd like to hear/try. Thanks again folks for all the comments and info.
