  1. I think its good that Klipsch is getting distribution thru Best Buy for the reasons Trey stated. But, its disapointing that the price of this was pulling distribution from Tweeter. Their sales staff seem light years more interested in klipsh (and audio period) than best buy (granted I've only been to a few Tweeters, but I've been to a bunch of Best Buys). Trey, would it be fair to say that the agreement with Best buy was contingent on pulling Tweeter. I'm sure the swap was worth it in dollars to klipsh, but I see very few posts here on quality klipsch dealers, (especially reference). Where I'm at there are none. The one I went to (on the klipsch web site in connecticut) didn't even stock any klipsch (and one of the salesman said "I hope we never do, we're a high end shop, but the owner will likely carry them". His comments were humerous as he also stocked paradigm, which isn't any more high end than klipsch. There are excellent reference dealers (classic Stereo and Ovation in Indiana to name a couple and others have named a few), but there seems to be a lot of negative posts regarding reference dealers. Tweeter seemed fair and enthusiastic at least.
  2. I'll say its a steal. Probably stolen before you bought them
  3. I'm passively bi-amping RF7 because I have an extra amp that is essentially identical. So instead of running 100 watts X2, I'm running 100watts into each tweeter and 100 watts into each bass section. Actually, because the amp is rated higher for lower impedances, I might be delivering less than 100 into the tweeter, and 150 or so into each bass section. I've never needed the power, but I sure like the sound and power.
  4. Nevermind....I just realized you already had the sub.
  5. Nice score on the 7's. Did they give you a good deal on the RSW15?
  6. I would think they could come down a bit more $1800 seems a little high, especially if you've bought your current klipsch from them. Did you? If so, $1600 would be very fair, given your repeat business. I paid substantially less than even that from an authorized dealer ($1350 in the box, unopened), but they were hurting for biz. They said $1500 would normally be a good price for a good customer (Although at the time there were 2 reference dealers within a couple miles of each other, which helps). Or, if you didn't buy the originals from them, work in an RC7 for a big discount?
  7. Debt can definately have a purpose, both short term and long term. Everything within reason. Corps follow this and have an optimal debt/equity ratio. If rates are low and your expected return is worth the risk premium of whatever guaranteed rates are, it could be considered. I agree there are new products out there that give you equity exposure, and tie in some nice guarantees. The problem with some of these, including some equity index annuites is they (can) have huge surrender charges, and sometimes the guaranteed rate is on 80% of your invested assets. Some are very good, but some are a little deceptive. ALso, it seems that they should be considered as a replacement of your bond assets, not your equity assets. Back to houses, we've moved 4 times since being maried 9 years ago, and I love the househunting and excitement of buying a new house, even with all the stress it can bring!
  8. Skinny Puppy "the process". Brought it back into rotation around halloween, now I can't take it out.
  9. I have a bose as my car stereo, it came with the car. It has 0 distortion...Because it doesn't work - at all, won't even light up. A fricken "diode" or something went out on it long ago. It sounds better than it ever did, very soothing. I'll never replace it!
  10. As far looks, I think the LaScalla's win. They may not be as attractive or wife friendly, but they're the only ones that say (without even playing), sit down put on your seat belt, helmet and mouthpiece. They make a statement, those sons of *****es.
  11. Speaking of big woofers, has anyone actually ever seen the 30 inch woofer in the Patrician 800? My uncle has the speaker, but its sealed (and believe can't be opened without a crowbar...). I've always been curious of that monster. The speaker specs says it goes to 15hz (but doesn't say +/-xx db, nor does it give the SPL, but its got to be 104+?
  12. And Twitch is tame compared to the stuff that followed. Land of Rape and Honey is a very good blend of electronic and electric and is probably one of my favorite along w/ the Psalm69 cd (which to this day I don't know what it really says...
  13. Pixies....Is Frank Black with them again? Jimmy Santiago? If Frank is back, I'de vote for the Pixies.
  14. I like them as well. I have only 1 of their CD's plus several electronic compilation albums with them. I like bands who can do electronic well, have it sound industrial - not synth pop. They do. Is it the original members, a couple of years ago they were touring as MDFMK, as they didn't have all their members. My brother saw them, and said it was a poor show because they weren't cohesive...almost like the programming wasn't done right or they hadn't rehearsed. It sounds like they've gotten their act together again. GOod to here.
  15. I agree..Melt on Reboot live is my test cd. It will send any salesman running for the volume knob. THis song and CD is what reinforced the fact that I still need a sub (I really don't have one to speak of now, so the RF7s handle it, but the bass power on that song is astounding, the cd itself is menacing... Have you listened to COBALT 60, Jean-Luc Demeyer's mid 90's project? Very powerful also.
  16. Speaking of good industrial concerts, I saw Front 242 (who at least one of their members worked with Ministry in the early 80's). Front 242 stayed more electronic industrial techno than did Ministry. WHen I saw them a couple of years ago in wash DC, I never heard so much clean base. Ever. THey must have been using a lot of watts and clean equipment. It was never hard on my ears, but I literally thought someone pushed me in the chest until I got used to it. I could yell over some of the sound, but the base could only be described as physical.
  17. Love Ministry. That must have been an incredible show. I have a good chunk of their cds, and they've evolved over the years to more of an electric sound from 100% electronic industrial to a good mix. Very LOUD!. I have a compilation cd w/ some of Hanzel une Gretyl. I like the couple songs that are on it. Good industial techno can really test the bass response (and limits) of your woofers.
  18. I would vote no for a redesign, because it would make me feel like mine is outdated. Actually, the only thing I think it really needs is rounded corners. This adds visual appeal in my opinion. I don't want the plastic fronts.
  19. In an early post Chris Robinson hit it right. THe value of competitive intelligence has got to be worth its weight in some potential Short Term lost sales. My company (insurance company) routinely provides competitor information vs our products to our sales people (who can sell competitive products if they want). Our intent is to find out why the sell competitors specifically. What feature on ours lacking compared to company B, C, D, etc. We have made significant modifications due to this specific input. And, our sales force trusts us more as they know we're not afraid of the competition. THis input is 10x more valuable than any consultant or 3rd party could provide us. If you have SVS sales people out there fanning the flames, that's one thing. But individuals touting why they bought SVS over klipsch or vice versa is important. Klipsch needs to highlight why theres is better. Even if more expensive. Finish, service and ability to here before buying are very legitimate reasons for higher costs. Also, I was considering and SVS, but am leaning toward klipsch now due to listeners indicating that the klipsch may be better for music. I would not have known this if not for the sub forum.
  20. Its amazing. People see a movie and use that to base there choices on. Hollywood is the epitomy of hypocracy: Be Green: As I drive up in my limo. Down w/ big business: Except for the big movie industry. Down w/ the rich: Except for the entertainment industry. Don't kill trees: Except for those necessary for my plot of housing in the mountains. Downloading is a crime: but drugs, beating my wife or fans, or tearing up a hotel/bar is ok.
  21. I don't think you can blanketly say its wrong for klipsh if others like the sound. The best thing Ominoff could do is listen to them side by side, and pick the one he likes best. Or, at least listen to the 2 amps separately. You can really only say its wrong for some ears. Everyone will have there own idea of what sounds right. Bright is good, too bright is not. Warm does not automaticly equate an amp to good status. I certainly agree that most of the opinions on this board feel its a little on the bright side. But I think a lot of it depends on what you prefer. Those that love live music may prefer a brighter sound.
  22. As did I. Thanks for consolidating a list like this.
  23. Many on this forum feel adcom is bright. I'm not in that camp, but the problem could be your preamp. Adcom preamps are not good (except maybe the GFP 750). Their tuner preamps and surrround preamps are not good at all. I've had a couple, and didn't like either. I do like their amps though. Try hooking your cd player (if it has a volume control) to the amp directly, taking the pre out of the chain. If you like the sound, you know where the problem is, if you still don't like the sound, you just don't like adcom and it means a trip to the store. I doubt the denon will solve the problem. It may be warmer, but not better.
  24. they make subwoofers but not very good ones. I have one. Actually, its just grossly underpowered. I only use it for movies at low levels. If i listen at high levels, it clips. Its not made for hanging out with klipsh. I had it from a previous system, just haven't replaced it yet. I'm waiting for Ear to send me one of his leftovers
