  1. So 3 years ago, i was floored by the demo i got from the RF7 system at a tweeter, and within a few months I bought a pair and have loved them ever since. I know that this model has been discontinued and the RF83 is the new king of the road. I havent heard these speakers and there are few to none reviews of this speaker online, but I'm assuming some of you must have bought one. What do you think? I'm seriously considering buying a new pair of speakers for a stereo system, and I havent been disappointed by klipsch in the past, will i be this time?
  2. ironically, When i got my RF7s over Motor Freight, the boxes were in terrible shape, with gouges and all sorts of damage on the outside.... thats right Motor Freight. The only damange was to one of the speaker grilles that the dealer replaced, and fortuntaely the speakers werent damaged. I havent had a problem with UPS/Fedex yet, but i did with the delivery service tahts supposed to be good at delivering stuff with care, so there are no garantees, and UPS is no better or worse than anyone else.
  3. I'm looking to purchase a pair of Rf83s, and probably their new Rt 12 sub thats supposed to go along with those speakers. I dont want to pay MSRP, but Id really like to get a good discount if i could on these speakers. I dont know what i should do or now to haggle with the local dealer here. Would it help if i offered to pay in cash? Would they be more willing to deal if i waited till around thanksgiving?
  4. according to the website it only comes in either cherry or black. they took out maple as a color selection...
  5. after we got our RF-7s and moved them to the theater room, I've been desperately searching for another pair of speakers that will deliver the same kind of sound, but not be the exact same speaker as the RF-7s... just an aesthetic point about difference. i'm very interested to hear these speakers and see if they do the job i want. I really liked the ear splitting live'ness' of the RF7s, although they did get a bit tiring after a while, so if this is a little more smoother, then it sounds like its perfect for me. on paper its only a bit less sensitive than the RF7s, does that hold up to be true in direct comaparison too?
  6. So, i was out of the country for about 6 weeks, and i just happened to click on Klipsch forums last night and saw that the RF7s were discontinued and there was a new flagship line. Is this the new "reference primiere" line or just the reference line, and any of you present RF7 owners, heard the new RF83s? how do they compare? specs look comparable. are these speakers made in US like the RF7s were? The local klipsch dealer here in nashville sold out the RF7s, so its not like i can do a direct comparison, and i dont see any reviews online. So, as the topic title says, what do you all think?
  7. TNT-HD isnt that great, a lot of their movies are stretched, even while there are HD transfers floating around. Its only good for NASCAR and NBA, which are excellent quality...
  8. you guys all paid retail for yours? what happened to all the people who paid like $700 for each RF7?? I know i've seen posts from people here saying that... and a lot claimed to be from authorized dealers
  9. can you tell me or PM me how much you paid at that store for your set? are they an authorized dealer?
  10. I live in Nashville, TN. There is a klipsch dealer down the street called Hifi Buys. Everyone there is kind of a dick and very elitist. Not only that, but they dont give discounts. I'd like to get another pair of RF-7s, hopefully with some kind of discount. The first pair i got (not from Hifi Buys) was around 1600 shipped to my house. If anyone knows any good dealers in their area who i could give a call, and use as a reference, I would really love that. Would like to get these in as soon as possible. Thanks a lot.
  11. thanks for the compliments. No, i've never "made" anything before. I found the design the hardest part to do. I just drew it out on paper first, i didnt think to google and copy a design somewhere. The second part was driving a nail through two pieces of wood... that sucked. But now i have the hang of it, and I think I should first buy a circular saw. as far as the finishes, i dont really care, eventually that front stage will be completely black so i just wanted a stand that would disappear, so the black does nicely. Just watched Spiderman-2 on HBO-HD. WHOA! the sound difference is incredible! the dialog is so much clearer, and I can truely appreciate how refined the klipsch sound is. Not muddy at all. I'm so very happy.
  12. thanks for the compliment. I also forgot to mention that I had to get some tacks to put under the base plate to keep it from rubbing against the carpet. here's one final view from the side to show the angle. (can you tell that i'm really proud of myself?)
  13. ok, this is the RC-7 on the stand, front, down-rezzed. notice the foam blocks on the left, that used to be what I used to hold up the RC-7 before.
  14. This is the stand holding the RC-7, showing the back. you will notice the back 4" wood pieces i spoke of.
  15. This is the stand by itself. notice the bumpers on the top plate as well as on the back two brace wood pieces. I used 6 in total.
  16. this is the full stand this picture is 2mpixels, and i didnt realize it at first, i dont want to post in this thread because it screws up the spacing, based on what kind of resolution your monitors have. I do have high rez pictures of each of these original pictures, if anyone wants them, let me know.
  17. okay, i'm just now recovering after my first woodworking project. After learning that HiFi Buys wants $65 for a RC-7 stnad, I decided to try and build my own... so, 21 dollars and 10 man hours later, I give you my (almost) finished product. Just in case anyone's wondering, here's what i used. 2 pine pieces of wood that are: 10" on one side, 9" inch on the other side, and 5.5" wide, and 1 inch deep. This I used to make the "legs". It looks like a trapezoid, and intentionally so because it gives about a 10 degree angle for the RC-7. My Theater screen starts at about 21 inches, so 10 inches here, + the 9 of the RC-7 height, plus about another inch or so of base and top material equals just below the screen height and perfect for me. I called klipsch and Steve at tech support said for my distance (18 feet at LP) 10 degrees would be about right. This was also the most expensive piece of wood that I originally got from home depot for mounting a projector bracket. When that wasnt necessary, I decided to use this wood for this activity. It'll set you back $8 for 36 inches. I used two pieces out of this wood. Then I got another, less expensive pieces of wood (2), thats 24" wide, 12" long, and .75" deep. this was another $5. again from home depot. This was used as the top piece and bottom base. Add in nails (about 2 inches long), spray paint and bumpers (to keep the wood of the speaker from comming directly in contact with the wood of the stand), you're probably looking at around $21-28. We already had the spray paint, so I only needed to buy bumpers and nails. Also, you'll notice I added two 4" pieces of wood on either side of the back of the stand. this is to keep the RC-7 from sliding back. But after I mounted the speaker, i realized all the weight is at the front. So this may or may not be necessary. Again this is just some 1" x 4" x 1.5" wood i had lying around the house that i got cut by some friendly construction workers cutting vinyl for a house next door. Right now, as I type, i put the last coat of paint for the base plate. and I'll post pics of the final setup after its ready. But i just couldnt wait to share my joy and sense of manly manhood (power drills, sweat, nails, oh yeah... i'm all that is man!). it was a really fun and interesting project for someone who's never worked with their hands to build anything. The level of satisfaction you get from doing something yourself is unparallel than just going out and buying a stand. anyway, i'll shut up now and show you guys the results. if anyone wants anymore help, feel free to ask
  18. so far i've never had any issues with UPS or Fedex ironically. the only thing that happened once was i bought some speaker cable on Ebay and UPS delivered it... to the wrong house and I happen to be there all day waiting fot the delivery, and i check the website and it says "delivered". I'm like "WTF!" and i called UPS immediately saying i never recieved anything, then they tried to find out what happened. somehow the idiot driver couldnt decipher what house it was supposed to be delivered to and just threw it at someone's doorstep. he went back and got it and got it to me, but never rang the doorbell either. I guess he was afraid i'd yell at him. His boss called back a few minutes later and sayd "did he deliver it to you yet? good, i was about to go kick his ***..." I must say that UPS was pretty prompt in getting the situation resolved.
  19. that doesnt necessarily mean shipping through another shipper is better. I had some RF-7s deliverd through Eagle "motor" Freight. Both boxes had huge gouges in it. Somehow through pure luck it didnt it the speaker itself. One gouge went through a grill, which the dealer replaced. But tahts certainly not the way to do business when it was supposed to be shipped by a company that is supposed to be better than UPS/Fedex...
  20. good job writing all that... i'd rather have all the money in the hands of rich americans than rich chinese, becuase I aim to be one of the rich americans soon.
  21. a home theater is the TOTAL of the sum of the parts. I dont need to come to this thread to find individual component pictures of Klipsch speakers or Aragon electronics. I could just go to their main page for that. its a waste of my time and the bandwidth/space that klipsch graciously provides this forum for someone to post individual cutout component pics of their stuff.
  22. ironically, i discovered Klipsch through the Klipsch promedia 5.1 system I have had, that was made in china. it broke twice, and now is a doorstop. chinese people should stick to food, they arent good at making electronics that last. Koreans, okay, Thaiwanese, okay, probably even rival Japanese manufacturing standards. I know my RF7/RC7s say "made in Hope Arkansas and signed by B W". from now on i'll pay extra for japenese, or american made stuff, no more mexican/chinese electronics for me...
