  1. Here is the link for Tools website and from there you can sample some of their songs from most of their albums. Glad to see that there are some Tool fans here. []
  2. Joe- Since you like "Schism" from the Lateralus album, then you might want to also pick up their newest release which is ' 10,000 Days' and give the song " Jambi" a listen. Regarding A Perfect Circle, which one did you happen to pick up ? Personally, I like " Thirteenth Step " the best. Brad
  3. Jay L- I live on the East Coast of Florida. It only takes a few hours to drive over to the other side from where we are. Let me know.... Brad
  4. If you keep the speakers to close to the tv for long periods of time, you are taking a chance of messing up the tv screen for good. I would suggest moving the speakers away from the tv until you dont see the different colors on the screen. The older Fortes were not a shielded speaker , so this is why this is happening. My Fortes that I still have used to do the same thing, so I moved on of them out of the room completely, Now the tv is in the garage.
  5. Instead of searching through every ad for them : http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=61378&item=5779316808&rd=1 Would be nice if there were pictures of them though.
  6. Rob- May I offer a suggestion ? Maybe when you listen to brand " A " tubes , keep a pen and paper handy and write little comments on the paper throughout the night while you listen to various types of music on your system. The next night, try brand " B " tube and again, jot down notes as to what you hear and dont hear while listening.....compare the notes and see what you like and dislike with a certain tube. As for the EL-34....Currently , I am using the "Flying C" in my Dodd Amps and like them very much. While there are others tubes out there, I havent had the chance to sit down and figure out which ones I would like to get next. The good thing about EL-34 Tubes for the most part, is that they are very cheap compared to the 6550 or kt-90 power tubes. Of course it depends on how many tubes you need also ! I have a friend that has a pair of Wolcott tube amps, and those take 8 EL-34'S in each amp, so retubing that can be expensive to say the least ( for me anyways !) Good luck and have fun. Brad
  7. I will throw my thoughts out there....but if you decide to get a preamp, then you have to look into another pair of Interconnects....possibly another power cord ( ?), and of course that means more money that you are spending on the system ( which could be a good or bad thing ). For me, I have had a preamp for years and just recently decided to go direct from my cd player into my tube mono-block amps and have no regrets at all. Like to keep the system as simple as possible, less things in the equipment chain the better( for my system at least). I guess the only way to find out which one works better for you is to try them both, as you are the one that listens to your system.
  8. Of course everybody has an opinion as to where the speaker should be, but a lot of it depends on the room that the speakers are in. I recently brought my Forte 11 back into the system and have mine 2 1/2 to 3 ft from the back wall. On many times when I have listened to the system, it sounds as if there is a sub , but there is not. Speakers are also facing forward with no toe-in. Moving the speakers to find the right position for them isnt hard as they are not a heavy speaker, so where one person suggests may not be the right place for another person.
  9. Have tried other cables such as FMS, Signal Cables, Silver etc...but always had the same sound with them until I got the Purist Audio Musaeus Interconnects and Bi-wire cables. They sounded nice on my Klf-30's, but I just sold them tonight, so now I am looking for different speakers.....
  10. Sorry, forgot to mention that I also have a pair of the Forte 11 speakers. The only thing wrong with the Forte speaker is that it would be hard to hook up the bi-wire cables that I just bought and really dont want to sell them.
  11. kept all your existing cables, amps, etc....what speakers would you look at next ? The reason why I ask this question is that a few weeks ago, I posted a for sale on here of my Klipsch Klf-30's in the Central Florida area, and one of the members here on this site contacted me, saying that he would drive from Ohio to pick them up. He was ready to come down here, and pick them up, but he thought he found a pair on Ebay for sale....so I started selling all my gear and was going to get out of this "hobby" for a while, but a friend told me that if we shopped smart , we could indeed put together another system with the money I had from selling everything. I agreed to do this, so first we found the tube amps, then the player, and cables we had already decided on which ones to get, but wanted to get everything else first.......then I get an email from the Klipsch Forum member asking if my speakers are still for sale ? The Ebay thing didnt work out for him. I know that the cables have been ordered and are on the way, but I reply to him that they are, and so we set up a day that I know I will be home, we even talk on the phone and finish any last minute questions that there might be. Cables arrive, and I hook them up, and what do you know ? The system sounds just great, and I honestly didnt think that cables could make that much of a difference...so here I have the sound that I enjoy, but the buyer will be here tomorrow after drving from Ohio to get his speakers. I will honor what I have told this gentleman that the speakers are his......but my question is this : What would you do if you were in my shoes ? Buy another pair of the 30's or go a different route speaker wise ? If you choose next speaker, then speaker has to be effecient enough for 50 watt tube mono-blocks and be bi-wireable...also have the ability to play any kind of music ( vocals to rock & roll ). Input needed.
  12. Here is a picture of the inside of a Dodd 50 watt Mono-Block amp.
  13. or there are these amps as well : Dared VP-300B Monoblock Tube Amps, 7 WPC Besides the power, would also like to know which one would give me the better low end plus overall volume. Thanks again Brad
  14. The other day I posted a sale on some Klf-30 speakers here in the Central Florida area, well....after talking with the Mrs and a friend of mine, they have convinced me to stay in the hobby. My friend is helping me look for the next tube amp ( I have used tube amps before ), but if you had to choose between these three amps, which one would you pick and why ? I have never used tube amps that use the 300b or 2a3 tube, so I am not sure if these would be enough power to use on my KLF-30 speakers ( I know that they will play music, but will I have enough volume with them is the real question ?? Here are the lists of amps : 2005 New Dared VP-300B SET tube monoblock amps, which give about 7 watt. Radii 2a3 SET Monos ( not sure of power ) DODD Audio 50W/ch monoblocks Which one would you pick and why ? I know the Dodd mono-blocks would have enough power, but what about the other amps ? I plan on also buying a cd player with volume control built in , so I wont have to worry about a preamp. Music tastes ( not sure if this matters ?) but it starts at softer stuff such as female vocals and ends at Tool. Room size is 13' wide by 21' ft long Thanks for the advice in advance, Brad
  15. I live in Deltona, which is between Daytona Beach and Orlando. I have been in this so called "hobby" for 5 years or so, and I finally have realized that I will never be able to put together a "high end" system. In order for me to put together a better system than what I have, different stuff would of course have to be bought, but then I have to look into power cords, IC's and speaker cables.....I really dont have the money to buy those things that are needed. A good example is : what is the flavor of the month today, might not be tomorrow or next week, so trying to resell something without taking a huge loss is hard, and I dont have the funds to keep doing this. Other interests or hobbies that I have ,have been put on the back burner long enough, and would like to start enjoying them more. I am sure that I will miss it at first and will continue to "search" the listings at AudioGon, but I honestly dont see myself getting back into this hobby again . Brad
  16. I have decided to get out of this audio hobby, and for those of you in the Central Florida area and are looking for a pair of Klf-30's, I have a pair that I am selling. I have had these speakers for about 3-4 yrs now, and over the years they have taken their share of bumps due to our three Rottweilers....the first time that they knocked the speaker over, they broke the mid-range horn ( which was replaced a week later), but right above the small horn tweeter, there was a deep scratch that was put into the cabinet, I have fixed this the best I can and with the speaker grills on there, you will never know its there. The original grills were destroyed by one of our cats, and while I did get the speaker grill cloth , I did an ok job considering that this was my first time ever doing this. I am sure that someone that knows what they are doing would do a better job, but when sitting in the listening chair, you would never know that these were re-covered. The speaker spikes are not the greatest either, but I did put them on the belt sander a few months ago to make them sharp again, and also made some 1" wood disks for the spikes to go into. We have tile floors, that is why the spikes were dull. On the plus side, these speakers have had the crossover upgraded by Dean, and when you go to the Forums and type in klf upgrades, the one that Dean has all the pictures and description of what he does to the crossovers, well, those are my crossovers. There are small scratches on the cabinets, but I am sure somebody could find a way to hide these marks, and I have taken all this into account on what I am asking for them. I can take pictures tonight of the speakers so that if anybody is interested in them, I will forward them to you. I am asking $500 for these speakers and will not ship them as I dont have the original boxes ( never got them), and so a local pick-up is preferred...or will possibly meet somebody if its a reasonable distance. A small fee may apply if that is done, but we can discuss that later. Should you have any questions, please email me at my home email, but I will check the board here for replies. Here is my email address : bchasteen@cfl.rr.com I also have a Don Garber Fi Y preamp for sale also. There is an ad for it at AudioGon, and while I am asking $875 for it, I am open to any reasonable offer. If you would like to see the ad at AudioGon, member name is Riley804. Thanks for taking the time to read this, and email should you have any questions regarding the speakers or the Fi. Brad
  17. klipschlover - I also have a pair of the Klf-30 speakers and since I wanted a little more low end, I was able to find a McIntosh Mq-102 Environmental Equalizer which worked really good on giving me the low end I was looking for. I no longer need this as I have bought a pair of Sonic Frontier mono-blocks . The McIntosh is in fair to good shape for its age, and could send pictures to you if you are interested in this ?
  18. Many of you may have already seen the ads for these on AudioGon, but thought that I would also see if anybody is interested in these amps. Amps were built by Albert of Space Tech Labs and were used on the HF side of my Klf-30 speakers. Matching Hybrid amp ( LF amp) is also for sale. Here is the link for the ad : http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?ampstube&1114646195 I have the small amp listed for $520, but am open for any reasonable offer.
  19. Piranha- I really like those amps that you mentioned.....I went to the website, but I dont see a price of those amps, can you help me out on this ? Brad
  20. I currently have a pair of KLF-30's, and would like to get a different pair of tube amps ....possibly a pair of mono-blocks, what do you suggest ? Here are a few things that I am looking for : 1) point to point wiring 2) Enough power ( as music varies as well as volume levels) 3) Lets try to keep it reasonable. ( I have a family) What are other people that have the 30's using ? Thanks in advance, Brad
  21. After exchanging emails with Dean the last few days, and reading what others have said about the crossover upgrades......I have sent the crossovers to Dean to have this done. Thank you all for giving your input on this. Brad
