  1. Kind of Blue_ is usually suggested because it's a standard in jazz recordings, & yes, Kelly, the SACD is top notch. There are so many different flavors of jazz, that not liking a standard is akin to not liking a standard of a particular type of beer. It's no less satisfying to those with an ear for a type of beer, but it may be that you don't have the ear for beer yet at all. When you do, you'll probably enjoy the standard. SSH
  2. I saw that, too, but I think he's asking $3900. SSH
  3. There is an authorized dealer in Texarkana. Check the list on this site. I talked to them about another sub a couple of weeks ago. They will work with you on price. SSH
  4. I found the forum while researching to setup a remodeled room for my Khorns & LaS, upgrade the Klipsch center channel I had, & purchase surround speakers. Eight more Klipsch speakers & three tube amps later, I'm dependent upon the forum to maintain it all. 53, M, Eighty miles from Hope. SSH
  5. jdire1, I put a LaS on its side, between 2 Khorns, & it was almost depressingly bad. Forum members thought I had lost my ears because I posted that the RC7 I had (which was idealy positioned) was the better center. When I stood the LaS up, I had to get used to my TV being too high, but the sonics are worth it. SSH
  6. They were the sound I wanted in the 60s, & still. SSH
  7. I, too, have had good results on Audiogon. I've gotten many emails about items I had for sale that were absolutely rediculous, but the sane ones who wanted a reasonable value for their $ always win out. Same has been true as a buyer. They may be knee deep in emails, or thinking someone's deal is the one they want. That's not my approach, but I'm trying to second guess. SSH
  8. I've used 6 different speaker cables with Khorns & LaS. All have been copper. Sometimes there have been audible differences, & sometimes I couldn't tell at all. The best so far are the most expensive I've tried, Monster Z3. SSH
  9. HDBRbuilder, Months ago, I turned your suggestions into a much improved seal, & sound. I just thought I'd echo. SSH
  10. Search the archives for a thread I once started on the same topic. A lot of discussion, & problem eventually solved. SSH

  12. I've sold 2 of my 3 RC7s that I used for center & rear center in a 7.1 The other is for sale. 7.1 is overkill now. Nothing I've seen is in 7.1. I have replaced the 3 with 2 more LaS in a 6.1. At least some 6.1 is available. Coverage isn't a problem in my setup, which would be the only reason I'd go for 2 rear centers. SSH
  13. Some call them bright, some forward. Either is appropriate for what I hear. SSH
  14. hoggy, My Khorns sit on 3/4", 3'x 3' plywood. I sealed the tailboards with stair tread rubber that works very well with my unplumb walls. Major improvement. SSH
  15. flashman, Welcome to the forum. Your Fortes will appreciate being tube amplified. A Jolida would work well with them. Tube preamplification would sound much better than using the solid state as a preamp. If you can't do both, consider getting an integrated tube amp. Of course, you could run the SS as a pre until you had $ for a tube pre. Some here have experience in trying SS with tube amps; I've only heard one, & it wasn't what I would recommend. Tubes will sound great with your Fortes. SSH
  16. avman, As you already know, the LaS will better match the Heresy's sound than the 30's. It's been years since I heard Corns, but I'd think the same would be true of them. You'll obviously lose some bass capacity, but for HT, you have a sub. It's not a deciding factor, IMHO. Many of us are satisfied with the tight bass response of the LaS. Your HT sound would significantly improve. The quality of sound when played through the LaS would be a determining factor as compared with the 30's. The 30's are fine speakers, but not, in my opinion, in the LaS class. Your ears may disagree, but with Corns & Heresy's already at home, it appears that you already like the Heratige sound. If it truly is a unique opportunity, go for it. SSH
  17. Dee, I was really surprised to see two very different AA crossovers come out of them. I knew they were about 5 yrs apart, but when I first looked at the second one I thought, "No wonder it doesn't work, it has cans missing." SSH

    6.1 Movie ?

    Thanks, Scrambler. SSH
  19. Dee, I'm posting in 2 channel because you usually hang-out here. I just wanted you to know that the LaS problem was the added volume control. I have the ALK's in now & they are both making good music. I may bring a couple of guys with me to the AR gathering. I'm trying to talk one into taking a Jolida & the other a Mac. We'll see. SSH

    6.1 Movie ?

    Thors1982, Thanks,man. I'll purchase The LOTRs. SSH
  21. boomac, What was the 6.1 you listened to? I just installed ALK's on my center & rear center LaS & am looking for some good 6.1 sound. SSH
  22. ssh

    6.1 Movie ?

I got my ALK's installed in my LaS center & rear center channel speakers today. Can someone recommend a movie recorded in 6.1 so I can check it out? I've enjoyed a bunch of multi-channel music for 5.1, & I've listened to neo 6, but I'd like to hear a legitimate 6.1. SSH
  23. Arkytype, A Conway visit would be great, but it would be tough for some of us to do the same weekend we gather at Dee's. Plan to meet at Dee's & work out details while there. This sounds like another good road trip to me. SSH
  24. Craig, A lot of guys must be asleep. I thought this thread would be hot by now! What I'm lovin' is the full range of the 299A in a way I wasn't getting before. Did you try some of the jazz we talked about? SSH
