  1. I'm about 6'1" and a 2014 Corolla rental was a very very nice car to drive from MO to NY and back in five days. Great lights and gas mileage, very comfortable, solid, did not get blown around in high winds, decent acceleration other than second gear. Chevy Cruze had seats from hell, and could not get comfortable. Nissan Maxima was above average, but felt cheaply built.
  2. Steve, that one is mine. There is no DBX gear in the estate, although he seemingly covered every other manufacturer. There are a few things of mine in the photos, and a few small things of his I didn't get on the list.
  3. Scrappy, we are in St. Louis. But at our gatherings, we get folks in from Chicago, Detroit, Evansville, Cape, West Plains, Springfield and Kirksville. Just a giant donut from Kansas City.
  4. Terry, my # is in the first post. Just ring me and we'll get you taken care of. Dave
  5. Yes, it is. I am heading to bed now, I will figure the discounted price in the am for you, Toolz. It was $240, and now is $180, Toolz.
  6. Hey Iain, that Fisher 500 is calling your name for $150.
  7. If you have a little time or the inclination, some of the vets using services at an actual VA hospital or home facility always welcome visitors, especially visitors with tasty food treats. My wife works on a spinal rehab floor, and the popcorn and cake/desserts folks are most appreciated. Just clear any visit and activity beforehand, and your efforts would be very, very appreciated!
  8. Marty picked off the Technics SP25, Carl sniped the McCormack DNA1.0 Deluxe, Steve McCormack grabbed the DNA 0.5, Jim picked up the AR ETL-1 turntable, Doug spoke for the Altec 755Es, and Chad picked up the Don Allen cakepan. Stuff is moving briskly!
  9. There is nothing wrong with the two main points of alerts - 1) Point out scams and things that are questionable or to be careful with 2) Alert others about good deal, historically significant items, and oddities. Of course, it is generally good form to withdraw the thread if a member is actively pursuing an item and lets you know they are chasing it. A more personal alert method is to pm local people as to a sale. There is a fine line between alerting people in the region that are forum members and alerting everyone and their brother about a good deal. There are a couple people on AK who carpet bomb all good estate sales every week, ensuring a very stiff competition for desirable gear. Lots of people get offended when someone forever is alerting everyone nationwide about a good deal in Mayberry, and you happen to be in Mayberry hoping to get the good deal on the final day of the sale. And BTW, i have a thread in the garage sale side about some great estate items at great prices.
  10. These are my Opera Consonance 211 SET amps, Scrappy. With the right 211 output tubes(and my current set is slightly in the "right" category) these amps can be glorious. With the cheap Chinese tubes originally provided in the as builts, these amps are lousy sounding. I needed something to provide a buffer zone so the estate amps aren't in any danger of being disturbed, and the Operas are very effective at blocking while looking nice. Once I get through this diaspora of the estate, some of you Kansas City guys should come over for a listen. They sound great on the RF7s, and absolutely delightful on Altec Model 19s. As far as the tube amps from the estate, the Sun Audio was Sam Tellig's reference amp in his home for 15 years, the Canary Audio is superior, and the AtmaSphere is also standout. The entire Don Allen series is great value for the money at the market rate, getting them at 25% off is a steal.
  11. Joe, this is from the estate of a long time audiophile from southeast Missouri, who recently passed. He had some killer setups, but like all these situations where there are no kids, everything must go. The AtmaSphere, the Canary, the Sun Audio, and the Don Allen gear are all right down the power alley for our Klipsch setups. None of it is mine, although I wish I could say some of it was to stay here. I'm just helping out the executor, and her brother is very anxious to see a final settlement; hence the very, very good pricing. You will never see these prices on something that was not a forced sale.
  12. I can't cut and paste, so here is most of it... Atma-Sphere, Canary Audio, Sun Audio, Don Allen, Fisher, Ming Da tube gear, amps, preamps, turntables, phono stages, speakers, would like to demo before sale, UPS (via a good audiophile friend who manages store) will ship Dave 314-651-9396 http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=132626.0
  13. In college I was the worst musician in a good band. When we played out, there was a certain amount of good natured stage invasion that was sometimes allowed. Having a drunken lady get up close and start dirty grinding was not on our list of approved activities, and would have resulted in some rather rude unplanned and spontaneous physical expulsion. Kepp in mind that Afroman is at work here, making his living. I'm sure most of you would react rather vociferously if some stranger walked up to you and started a pelvic grind while you did some critical element at work, while others watched. Most of us would not be appropriate. His was a very strong reaction, but most people know better than going up on a stage and trying to upstage the performer. It was a stupid thing to do. Afroman should have just booted her in the *** a couple times, so he didn't display the best of judgement. Peter Townsend chased a drug induced fool off the Woodstock stage by trying to spear him with his guitar. At the same time, this action would be applauded if he had been flying a jet plane or driving a bus or a ship. We had a drunk sailor once who tried to grab the helms/planes on the sub once, and he got laid out just like this lady. The Captain had no problem after the fact, and the sailor was chagrinned and never had a drunk dumb moment again. He was wrong with the strength of his reaction, but don't **** with an on-stage act. You won't like what you receive.
  14. They have better equipment. Unfortunately, they have been trained to lie in a professional manner whenever they opt to go nuclear, which they visit far too often. You do not protect the citizenry by killing them, except in the most extreme cases.
  15. So you don't have anyone who is a Conservatist, you just have people who talk about it? When, in reality, they are cut from the same cloth as Liberals. Hmmm.
  16. When you look at the action, and then you look at the rhetoric, you realize there is a disconnect. It doesn't take too long to discern that the rhetoric exists to get people elected, while the actions(and results) are what the people actually stand for. For example, conservatism and conservatives say they stand for small government, and lower taxes. When they actually run government, though, it grows by leaps and bounds. Like wise when they say they want to lower taxes, they actually lower taxes that benefit themselves, create more loopholes for the upper tier of taxpayers so they can pay less, and throw out a piece of cake that the relative poor will receive an added benefit of enjoying the trickle down crumbs of what accidentaly falls out of someone's pocket. What we end up with is larger government, less tax income and larger deficits, people trying to spin what conservatism IS, and more jobs created by expanding WEALTH where folks ask you whether you want your extra value meal supersized. It doesn't compute.
  17. It is indeed a cruel system, when we can see a mentally ill person shot and killed in broad daylight because police are not content to spend ten minutes trying to inject a calming, sane presence into a volatile situation. I thought the police are supposed to serve and protect by being the voice of reason, not the herald of death and destruction. In this case, keeping society "safe" by killing one of the least of society is neither a reflection of our religious beliefs, nor one of our societal beliefs. We are lost in the woods, and most do not realize it.
  18. Jimbo, the four people I asked in the Phoenix area all declined to help her, after reading the thread. And they are nice people, but they catch the same vibe. This speaker will sell itself, without any upselling, if the facts are presented properly. Hire a carpenter, pay $50, and she would have the answer and photos inside ten minutes. I know a few regional EV freaks, and a couple more Asian collectors, that would like to have this speaker, as long as it is a known commodity. Two of the more significant marketing trapdoors are not being clear on what you are selling, and any hint of dissembling. I wish Andrea well selling her Patrician 800.
  19. Lots of my 3-gun buddies are former and active military, I haven't heard this at all. Most of my vet friends don't own a gun. As a result, we don't worship them, nor do we mythologize what we did or how we did it when we were serving. In that respect, we continue to maintain the long line of veterans from Vietnam, WWII, WWI, and the Civil War who served and then went home. I have also met vets who love guns and loved using them in the recent wars. Two different crowds.
  20. Andrea, rather than blowing smoke in everyone's eyes yet again, all it takes to figure out exactly what you have is removing two or three simple panels. Since you kindly posted the last photo, if you gently pry out the front facade, the rectangle frame that the pisces and metal grille are attached to, we all will be able to see the mid reentrant drivers and the tweeter. You can see the mark in the upper right corner, as you face the speaker, where it probably has been done before. The finish is different. Removing the doghouse cover plate screws at the mid bottom of the front will reveal the woofer face. Removing the back of the cab, if it is enclosed by a single batwing, will give you access to see the rear of the EV 18WK. I have had three Patricians and still have two Georgians in the garage. They all have the standard EV drivers for the model and make of speaker. The Naces were no different than anyone else that could afford to buy this speaker, even back in the day. Electrovoice did not make anything outside their published catalog, so imagining something special and exotic made by the factory is a pipe dream...and due to the nature of the front grille covering the entire front facade, this i=undoubtably is your speaker permutation, best guessing available.http://www.radiomuseum.org/r/electro_vo_patrician_4_way_speaker.html If you have the entire enclosed batwing back, then pulling that off allows you to pull the entire utility speaker out without going through the front. if you have the exposed back without the final completed horn, then most likely you will need to go through the front. Any speaker historian who has played with EVs before will recognize the right manner of access. But you have not been too endearing to them, claiming it to be an 800 from 1951, or now a special one off built exclusively for the Naces. The truth is the 1950s EV was a lesser speaker to the KHorn, and value wise is not a good sound bargain. I just sold the stereo pair of Georgians for a tick under a grand. Great bass, and lacking almost everywhere else, with the same likely drivers you have, excepting the 15WK for the 18WK.
  21. Most all of my fellow military vet friends have avoided seeing it like the plague. We don't find much substance in trying to turn a sniper into a hero, and especially one who was sworn not to talk out of turn. Like all of us, he was lucky to come home. For most, that was all we prayed for - to make it home. He seemingly sought to be elevated to a more exalted honor than just "veteran."
  22. Cactus Bob on www.audiokarma.org lives in Mesa, and has experience with large vintage Electrovoice speakers. He may be able to help you if you are nice, and do not try to blow sunshine around. No one at EV will help at all, they have no interest in 60 year old speakers.
  23. Randy, it is nice that you are playing nice, but please stick to the truth. There are certain diaphragms on the I and II that are no longer available, especially on the I. Some of these crossovers are potted. While you don't ever want to mess with potted, ruining a pot and smelling up your family kitchen with hot tar, you can find a replacement on EBay. I just hope she will be kind enough to post photos of the crossover and the facade with the grille off, so we can end the charade of it being an 800 and deal with what it really is.
  24. Preston, while Andrea's asking price may have been in jest, her position that it is a Patrician 800 was represented as a fact, which either is exceptionally misleading, or untruthful. I pointed out it was a Patrician I or II, with it being from 1951, in post #17. If you look at her earlier photos, you can see the outline of the woofer panel through the grille, which means it absolutely cannot be an 800. While humor is great, it is always best to first understand what is being sold so we can all be confident joking about the same thing. Otherwise, the joke might be at the expense of an unsuspecting buyer who only gets it after doing his due diligence post facto.
