Their floorstanding counterparts can hit low 30s to mid 40hz. I guess it just comes down to the money issue. ---------------- Rather than a money issue, it is an issue of whether one likes directly radiated sound (from floorstanding/bookshelf speakers) or a diffuse sound (from the surround speakers). I personally like the direct sound for music in 6 channels. However, I definitely prefer the surrounds for movies because of the ambience they convey. Movies have a lot of ambient sound encoded e.g. rain, flying planes, echoes, applause, side conversations etc. Additionally, the lower frequencies are better handled by a subwoofer anyway. In the end it is a matter of personal preference
  2. Thanks TheEar ! That will help me make a decision.
  3. Which one would be recommended ? I play 50% music and 50% movies. Tom V. @ SVS had recommended the 25-31 PC+ for my room size when I contacted him. I also have an opportunity to get the RSW-12 display model for a price little over the SVS. Thanks in advance !

I do get a reading from the test tones with a SPL meter though. Actually when i tested my hearing at a local science centre, i don't hear much over 15,800Hz while my younger girlfriend beats me with about 16,000hz. Kinda puts that 20 to 20,000hz rating into perspective, doesn't it? ---------------- I guess I just didn't want to admit that it could have been my ears

Yes, they unzip ok. They play well too. However, I couldn't hear the higher frequencies. Maybe the itty-bitty speakers in my headphones are not able to play them. I hope downloading them is not considered piracy ! I loved the lively discussion about the copyright stuff. My two cents is that Napster, Kazaa et al. are primarily used for piracy. But going after Girl Scouts or anybody just singing for one's own, or for that matter a group's own, pleasure is going overboard . That ranges on the side of lunacy. This is not to aggravate anybody, just my opinion. And a free bump !
  6. Thanks for the information ! The service guys make it sound that it is waaay too complex and I shouldn't be doing it on my own (and throw in the scare that if I open the tv, the warranty will be void, and such...). How do you like your Sony ? Did you compare it with other brands like Hitachi, Toshiba, Mitsubishi, Pioneer etc. ? How did your comparisons go ?

Try it and enjoy! ---------------- Hey Frzninvt, I am thinking about buying a rear-projection tv. How do you clean the guns ? I know some sets have auto-convergence, but if you know of a way to do it manually, would you please post it or send me a PM ? If I can do it myself, I don't want to be spending another 500 or so for extended service and warranty ! Thanks in advance.
  8. Griffinator, Preemptively, I don't intend to start a flame. I use Yamaha RX-V1300 with the Klipsch Legend series speakers. It sounds awesome for music ( specially the 6 ch Stereo ), and very clear for movies. Not at all bright. I have all the treble and bass set to flat. It does have a myriad of DSP modes, however after experimenting with all of them, I settled down on 2 or 3. I do like the video switching, 6 ch pre-outs, 6 ins (for SACD/DVD-A), assignable inputs (that is a life saver), and compatibility with all the sound formats (DD, DD EX, DPL, DPL II, DTS, DTS ES, DTS Neo:6). What I read on the boards about the Yamaha receivers and what my ears (and everyone else I invite to my house) hear are extreme ends of the spectrum. I have been extremely impressed with my receiver. Like some wise man said, "To each his own !" Cheers !
  9. Thanks for the info. Sounds like a good deal ! I will think over it and let you know. In the meanwhile, do keep us updated if you sell it to someone else Regards

Warranty should transfer but please contact SVS directly to verify. One V E R Y important notes to consider: 1. If sold I would need to keep my unit until the PB2 arrived (HT with out a sub is like washing your feet with your socks on!). Regards, Mike ---------------- Mike, I have a few questions: Where do you live or do you have an estimate how much it would cost for shipping to florida ? Is the price negotiable ? Do you have pictures of the sub ? Thanks !

And that makes a big difference in the sound, plus the fact that they are different drivers, larger cabinet size, etc..., so they have a different sound, just as the Synergy floor standers sound different than the Reference floor standers. Neither is actually a real close match to the Legends or my Chorus. They are just the only choices you have in the new arena in a surround-style speaker. I think some have used the older KSF-S5 with the Legends. They are only available used. ---------------- dougdrake, I auditioned the RB-2 for surrounds - didn't like the directional (instead of ambient) sound for movies. After that came the SS-1 because they were affordable and I didn't think it would matter much. But like you pointed out, they were overwhelmed by the KLF 10s. So finally went with the RS3IIs and they match the sound perfectly (to my amateur ears atleast). They also sound good for 6-channel audio. Maybe not as well as adding two more KLF 10s, however, as I pointed out before, I didn't have space for them and I also wanted something for movies+music. My point is, thanks for suggesting the RS3IIs.
  12. Hey m00n, Can you send me the link and the dance file too ? Thanks !

I heard the crossover frequency setting of the reciever I have in mind is set at 80 or 90 hz and is unadjustable. The reciever is going to be either a RX-V2300 or RX-V1300. Does anyone out there use this reciever? Should I consider a different reciever perhaps? ---------------- I use the RX-V1300 to power two KLF 10s, KLF C7, and two RS3IIs. The crossover is set at 90 Hz. I had a Velodyne VLF 1012 at one time, and I did not have any problems with it. (I had to return the Velodyne because it was not sufficient for my room.) I have been very satisfied with it - it has enough power so that I do not have to turn the it more than a 35-40% up (it has the negative decibel volume i.e. 0 is reference maximum, and goes down from there ). Maybe it has something to do with high efficiencies (98dB, 99dB, and 95dB respectively ) of the speakers It supports all the latest formats including Dolby Digital EX, Dolby Pro Logic II, DTS-ES Discrete 6.1, and DTS Neo:6. There are enough inputs and outputs so that I would never run out in the future. It also has 6 channel inputs and 6 channel pre-outs and a learning remote. There are lots of DSPs however, I just fell in love with a few. I love the whole setup ! Let me know if it helps...

I found awesome mounts in local Home Depot for 24.95 for a pair ! They are rated for upto 45 lbs, I think. The installation was easy and it took me about 30 minutes for both mounts. There was a trick to installing the rotary knob (to adjust the vertical firing angle). Let me know if you need more info on that. I also added two 5 foot white channels (conduits) to hide the speaker wire leading to the speakers. Very inexpensive - $4.95 for a 5 foot channel. They also sell "L" and "T" connectors for these conduits. The result is a very clean, professional looking installation. Peace.
