Good I hope. So what makes you prefer the Grado? I know it's the "sound" but what is that. I've never heard a Grado knowingly. Warm? Soft? You get my drift. I've used Shure for 20 years and maybe it's time for a change. Have a good one fellows. Randy
  2. Can you take a picture of the off center magnet to help with the diagnosis of your problem? Is the magnet not perpindicular to up and down, if that is the problem it is not a problem. That is just the way the magnet wound up in the scheme of things, not to worry. If it is not centered on the basket I don't know. I did not think that they could be mounted off center. Hopefully you can send a pic and then someone with more knowledge can help. Randy
  3. Hey Tom, if you don't get an answer here there are some knowledgeable people over at audiokarma who helped me with a similar problem with a Sansui receiver. Sorry I can't help you. It turned out to be two resistors on a board that go bad all the time. Replaced them and it runs great. Good luck. Randy

If so, what becomes of the vintage FM tube tuners? Will they still work? Will they require converters? If they still work at all, will their performance be compromised? In short, does it make any sense to tweak the old Dyna FM-3? ---------------- 1)people will still use them 2)yes 3)no 4)no 5)yes,tweak it
  5. I'm with the reversed polarity crowd. Take a real hard look at the way you have these hooked up in your home. Look at the back of your receiver also, sounds like somewhere you have the wires crossed. Everyones done it. Also try your receiver without all the gimcrackery turned on, maybe some effect is screwing up the response. Randy
  6. If the paint is just scuffed but still there I'd try a good grade car wax to buff it back up. If the paint is gone that would be more difficult to fix of course. You would really need professional help then. But you could maybe find some spray paint to match and mask the rest of the speaker off. After the paint dries then try buffing it into the rest of the speaker to match. Maybe not perfect but not so noticeable? Randy

  8. Someone here has done this. IF I'm not mistaken they couldn't get all of the black out, some was left in the grain of the wood. But it did lighten their speaker and they were satisfied. IF you choose to veneer over the paint then it is not an issue, you have all kinds of choices on finish and wood. And it will cover the old color completely. Randy
  9. I wish I were closer to you. I've been hoping to find some Cornwalls locally but so far no luck. Thanks for thinking of your fellow Klipsch addicts! Hope someone takes you up on your offer. Randy
  10. If I were a betting man I'd put 10 on Marvel being right on his assement of your problem. But being under warranty you're doing the right thing and letting them take care of it. Randy
  11. In a word, no. Well yes but. Oh I don't know. Sure why not. I would. You still haven't given us much to go on but what has been said above is that "YOU ARE DRIVING THE AMPLIFIERS IN YOUR KOSS INTO CLIPPING WHICH IN TURN IS BLOWING YOUR DRIVERS" In other words your Koss sucks or you are just turning it up too loud. Buying a replacement speaker that is not made for the crossover network and a hundred other variables isn't going to change anything for the better. Get a deep breath and try to relate some of your experiences with the problems you just had, what did the original speakers do? How did they sound, do they still work?
  12. There are lens cleaners that run like a cd in your player. I haven't had any experience with them myself maybe someone else has on the forum? I'd be careful reaching inside the guts of the player. It would be easy to move something out of alignment. Randy
  13. I have a set of AL's out of a pair of 1986 lascalas. Let me know if you're interested. Randy
  14. Have you checked your speaker connections on both the amp and speaker side, out of phase would be a guess.

  16. Are you old enough to remember the song YUMMY YUMMY YUMMY I've got love in my tummy and i feel like i'm lovin you? Bubble gum rock it was called. Yuck
  17. If you rolled them with gum they'd do a great job of attenuating the music and if you used spearmint you might even make the sound cooler. Or bubblegum for the obvious. Just think of all the possibilities. Randy

I first thought of this for my Scott. Maybe I will make an offer to all on the 2 channel forum. ---------------- I for one will offer my services (faceplate) so that all may benefit! OK,OK, for my benefit. All kidding aside I'll ship you my C-20 faceplate for the trial. And I would expect to pay for your trouble also. What say you Dylan1? Randy
  19. Does this work with the gold lettering that Mac used on their C-20? When I first received these I cleaned the knobs without removing them and instantly removed alot of gold. Randy
  20. Fini, it seems that you are showing care and forethought to me. The next whiz is being born right before our eyes! Or taken'? Good luck with your new meter. Randy
  21. Hey fini, I'm going to show my ignorance here but what the heck. I'd lift one leg to check it with everything off. And don't forget to watch out for the charged caps! Randy

Klipschorns have much more elaborate setup issues than simply putting them in the corners. DM ---------------- This is pretty much what I think as well. With Klipschorns, the room is the primary factor for overall sound quality. Because they need to go into corners, the room dimensions will affect the mode distribution and consequently the bass performance between 20 and 250 Hz. If you have a room of unfavorable dimensions, the RF7 can conceivably sound better than the Klipschorn. In the right room, however, the Klipschorn will walk all over the RF7, IMHO. How can you compete with a huge folded horn like the Klipschorn's? Like in real estate (location, location, location), it's "room, room, room" for the Klipschorn. _______________________________ Music Hall MMF-7 Turntable w/ Goldring Eroica H MC Njoe Tjoeb 4000 CDP with 24 bit/192 KHz Upsampling Wright Sound WPP-100C Phono Stage JF Lessard Pantheon 6SN7 SRPP Preamp w/ RCA 5R4GY & Sylvania 6SN7 JF Lessard Horus Parafeed Cobalt 2A3 SET Monoblocks w/ Tung Sol 5687 & AVVT 2A3 1976 KCBR Klipschorns with ALK Crossovers Gear Online: Two Channel & Home Theater Systems ---------------- Couldn't agree more. Went from Lascalas to K-horns in my listening room and went back to Lascalas. The only place to put the K-horns just didn't work out. Now I've learned about false corners and wonder if that wouldn't have cured my ills. Does anyone have a set of K-horns for about 500 bills? No? Oh well, live and learn. Glad you found some speakers you love. Randy
  23. Hey top man, if your tuner pre-amp is older you should have a tech look at it and make sure all the parts are in spec first. Probably need some replaced. Only then would tube rolling be advisable. And after bringing your piece back up to original specifications or better maybe you won't feel you need an upgrade.
