The reason I asked is my son in law has been asking and/or trying to sell me on the Blu Ray thing for a while so I had him read your thread. He now gets why you need the analog inputs if you don't have HDMI, which my receiver does not but the TV does.

If I have this figured out right, I could use the HDMI to the TV for the picture and the analog inputs to the receiver for sound, do I have that correct ?

The TV is 1080i so I should get a nice picture, HD from Dish network looks good so it should be at least that good ?

Thank you, Indy dude [H] I don't know how your room could be any better, I know the kids love it. You do realize you have ruined them from ever having an average theater in their home when they grow up ! [Y]

I am waiting for the UMC to come out by Emotiva. Until then I am using my HK 325 as the preamp for my XPA's. Since I don't have HDMI on the HK I am using an optic out/in for audio from my SonyBDP500. Am I missing out on better sound by not using the analog out/in from the Sony 500? If I use the 5.1 analog out into the HK analog in do I get the audio upconverted by the Sony and passed on to the amps?
