jjc
First post. I have just purchased a 50" Panasonic TV and a Panasonic bd80 Bluray. I have separate amps that I want to use in the home theater because I like their sound and they are bridgeable to mono [ 300 watts ]. The rest of my electronics are gone. So I have the tv, bluray, and amps that's it. I purshased a Pioneer elite sc 05 av reciever and "returned it" because the sound is no where near my seperate amps and that was a $1800 receiver, so it looks like a receiver will not work for me. My Bluray has 5.1/7.1 audio outputs, which is perfect for using my amps. As I understand it its HDMI passes audio through uncompressed so whatever I attach to it will have great sound. Question how is everyone with seperate amps making this connection, I don't want a receiver and I don't want a $2000 preamp. I need 5.1/7.1 analog input and the same output with volume control. That sounds easy to me but I can`t seen to be able to find what I need. Does anyone have any suggestions. I very well may not be understanding how things work now but willing to learn. If this is too lengthy to answer can someone point me in the direction of a " idiots guide" Thanks Jim
CECAA850
Welcome to the forum. Most people with outboard amplification use either a pre-pro or receiver between their source and amps. I don't recall ever seeing anything else used.
CECAA850
Maybe your receiver wasn't set up correctly. You should have been able to let your player decode the disc and pass the signal through your receiver and not have to let your receiver do any processing. Moderators dtel Posted August 31, 2009 Moderators Share Posted August 31, 2009 Why not a HT pre amp for $699. http://emotiva.com/umc1.shtm
jjc
Thanks for the reply. You know I may not have set the Pioneer up properly. I basically watched 3/4 movies on bluray through the Pioneer.then watched the same with my " old pro logic surround sound processer with my amps" and bluray. the sound was superior with my old stuff. I was running the audio from the optical output on the TV to my processer. I just didn`t want to spend $1800 and not have everything get better. Do you know of a pre/pro thats less than $1500 that good? Thanks Jim.

Moderators Youthman Posted August 31, 2009 Moderators Share Posted August 31, 2009 Welcome to the forums. Unfortunately, the UMC-1 has not been introduced yet. People have been waiting over a year for the release. They are getting close. Check their forums to see the latest news on it.
Moderators dtel Posted August 31, 2009 Moderators Share Posted August 31, 2009 [] Sorry about that I seen it said " Currently in production. $699" and thought they were done, it should be close. If they do go on sale, better buy quickly they sell out sometimes. I wanted the 2 CH pre amp and the 5 channel amp and they were sold out, I didn't have the money when they finally were in stock. jjc
Ya, I see that they are still not out, wonder why? Seems like there are many who look forward to this preamp. I`m supprised they arn`t letting everyone in on whats up, their last upsate was about 6 months ago. Maybe it`s to cheap at that price, who knows, well I`m still looking. Thanks Jim

Moderators Youthman Posted September 1, 2009 Moderators Share Posted September 1, 2009 r why? Seems like there are many who look forward to this preamp. I`m supprised they arn`t letting everyone in on whats up, their last upsate was about 6 months ago. Did you check the forums? They have a UMC-1 Forum. Last user stated this: Everyone needs to check out the webcast from today. Good news about the UMC-1, video board is final, Lonnie's on the way home. However reading between the lines, it seems that Halloween is probably more realistic for getting these in our hot little hands. One offhand comment in the webcast said we should have them definitely "by the end of the year". I hope it's not THAT long. Here is another quote from the Emo Forums It is because you are so new to the board that you have no feel for what kind of wait you will likely encounter waiting for the UMC-1. The vast majority of the delay was from a problem by Cirrus in producing the chip sets. Once the chips finally started showing up, Emotiva was on the cusp of releasing the UMC-1 twice when minor compatibility problems were discovered. Had Emotiva released the UMC-1 at those points there would have been a handful of handshaking issues arise. Most vendors would have elected to go ahead and deal with it as problems showed up; but, Emotiva made the decision to make the UMC-1 as perfect as possible. They felt that erring on the side of the customers' satisfaction was more important than rushing a product out the door with a known issue. Quality is extremely important to Emotiva. After fixing the first handshake issue in a few weeks time Emotiva was again ready to release the product when a new problem cropped up as a result of fixing the previous problem. This latest problem requires some minor rework to the board. A new round of testing will be required to ensure that this fix has not caused any new problems. Assuming that no new problems have been introduced from this fix, it is logical to assume that the UMC-1 should finally be released wthin the next few weeks. Emotiva has not directly said this because they don't want to mislead anyone; and there is no way they can be 100% certain that the board re-work is the final tweak that will be needed. Emotiva wants to release this pre/pro even more than we want them to. They have expended an enormous amount of time and resources in bringing this product to market. It will be a major leap forward in features and performance compared to any previously released pre/pro from any of its competitors. As much as they want to start recovering their development costs, they have decided it is more important to deliver a problem-free product to their customers. Developing revolutionary products, such as the UMC-1, unfortunately takes time.
jjc
Thanks for the reply. I don`t know how I missed the forum and thanks for letting me know. I can see where this new Prepro is generating great intrest, I`d jump on it now, like many others. It looks like, from what you posted it won`t be long. It sure sounds like it will be "the Pre pro" at that money. Jim
