Ok so i have a small Home Theater down in my basement. A 100inchpulldown widescreen, with a Sony Bravia 1080p Projector, its hooked up to a yamaha RX-V465 525w 5.1ch Reciever, With the Klipsch Quintet 3 sarround system, with the Klipsch Synergy Sub 12. It sounds good dont get me wrong but I also have a Onkyo System hooked up upstairs in my living room that is a 7.1 system but i have it set up as a 5.1 system. (that system total was like less than half of what the downstairs system cost) Well the Onkyo system almost sounds better on the loud aspect of things. I def think the saround sound details sound better on the klipsch but not the over all sound. I dont know I am just worried that I either 1.) have some setting wrong, or 2.) have the layout wrong or somthing. the room with the klipsch is an abnormal shaped room. it is approx 18X12, but the screen is on an angle in the corner because the corner is on an angle. then I have the L/R front speakers mounted almost at the ceiling pointing down and slightly inward. then of course the center speaker is mounted from the ceiling pointing slightly down tawards the listening area. then the back two speakers are pointed also slightly down and twards the main seating.. The sub is off to the right of the screen and I dont understand whats going on on the back of the sub... what is the phase switch goes either 0 degrees or 180 degrees? and other than the gain(volume) I dont know what the other knob does i think it says crossover hrz. I did the whole auto setup for the speakers with the mic you plug in and it did the whole beep beep and white noise thing. Dont get me wrong it sounds good... It just doesnt seem to have the detail that I thought it would have...I spent a good amount of money on this system and was expecting it to at least sound a little better than the system that I spent 400 or so dollars on upstairs....I will try to get pics up of both setups later

Also note I was playing a DVD off my PS3 not a Blue Ray.. I was using the movie Stealth to compare both upstairs and down... the planes and explosions in the begginging of that movie are insane... Also if anyone can help I had the volume on -20. DB's.. and cranked it up to I think -8or9.5 db's...system goes from -80 dbs to +16 dbs...

Welcome to the forum.

the room with the klipsch is an abnormal shaped room. it is approx 18X12, but the screen is on an angle in the corner because the corner is on an angle. then I have the L/R front speakers mounted almost at the ceiling pointing down and slightly inward. then of course the center speaker is mounted from the ceiling pointing slightly down tawards the listening area. then the back two speakers are pointed also slightly down and twards the main seating..

Your irregular-shaped room might be part of the problem but I strongly believe the high-mounted speaker placement is the real culprit. No matter how much you angle them down to the listening area and turn the speaker settings up in volume, your front soundstage is not coming from the front level but from the front high. The idea is to have the main sound come from the center of the screen not the top of the screen. The QIII"s do not have enough ooomph to project the sound properly. With a normal shaped, small to medium sized room, the QIII's can sound quite good. They were the speakers that got me on the Klipsch craze.

Thanks for the invite... I have always wanted a to try out the Klipsch Q3.

As for the location of the speakers... I will try to move the L and R speakers Down and see how that does.. but my Question is this what about the center speaker? Withe the screen hanging down and being so big I have no other place to put it above or below. is it ok to have the L and R fronts 2-3ft below the center speaker?....Also should I lower the rear speakers?

What invite are you talking about? You do have the QIII's.

Can you place the center channel on a table /stand under the screen and angle up toward the listening area? As far as the surrounds, the ideal height/placement is about 3-4ft above ear level to the sides slightly behind ears. I have my surrounds at the 6 foot level on my sidewalls.

I am not able to put a table under the screen... because the room its self is only like 7 feet tall or maybe a couple of inches higher.

the bottom of the screen is about 1.5 feet off the ground.... the rear speakers are about what you said about 3-4 feet about the listers head and slightly behind the head...

I guess I might have to play with it a little bit and see.

Do you know about the switches in the back of the subwoofer.. what is the 180 degree and 0 degree stitch? along with the knob under the volume...?

Sorry I didnt mean to say invite I ment to say thanks for the welcome...

How about mounting the center speaker to the wall directly under the screen or find a 1.5 foot stand to sit it on. I think having the center speaker 2 feet below you listening area is better than 4 plus feet above your listening area. Turn the phase switch on the sub to 0 degrees. I am guessing the other knob you are referring to is the crossover setting. Disengage(turn to max) your crossover on your sub and let your receiver's crossover handle the bass management.

I'll have to try that... and see if it works.. i would love to mount it to the wall but its just dead space behind the screen... no solid wall to mount to...I will try and take a picture of the setup and post it on here when I get home from work...I really appriciate your advice... I will look into it when I get home.. it sucks cuz I have everything run but if it helps the sound then I will re-do the whole thing.. another thing is does it matter that the left front is closer to the left sarround speaker than the right front is to the right rear? And thanks for the info on the sub i was clueless..

Well I said screw it!!!! I returned the 12 sub, and the Quintets and got a much better system I got two F3's a Center C2, and two S1's for the rear. I decided since its a MED/SM room I would go with just the 10 inch sub so I dont over do it(lol). I have all the speaker wires run and the speakers mounted.. but damn was it alot of work I had to move my screen over by 1.5 feet. and then I had to move my whole projector over 2 feet so that it was lined up with the screen. I havent hooked up the reciever yet but If this system does not sound good I think I just have bad hearing...lol...I am going to try and get everything set up so I can watch Transformers revenge of the fallen tonight with my cousin.... should be a good maden vouyage!!!

Only Question I have is is it ok to place the Sub next to the couch in the back of the room? I figure it will give me a little more bass in the rear.. I wont crank the sub way up because the bass from the F3's should do just fine for the most.. will it even out the bass from the front to back?

Bill thanks for everything man... Those Quintets sounded decent but just not what I was looking for....

I have my sub behind me, about 6" from the rear wall and about 2 feet from the closest side wall. Works great, in my room gives me MUCH more output than anywhere around my front speakers ever did.

I would highly encourage the Sub-12 for your setup. Your F3s will output a good amount of bass but a capable subwoofer can make or break a good audio setup.
