Vital
It will be good to get your side by side impressions of both units. My money is on the HK as far music and sound quality but it's all subjective. You should have a little shootout between them!
Ironsave
I believe his room treatments will make a big difference. I am curious as well about what his impressions are about the HK and Onkyo side by side. I also believe the HK will probably produce a different (more warm) sound. That being said; I like my sound nuetral (almost rhymes with natural), and I do not think sound quality will be lacking with either unit..... (Providing the source material is of good quality). Zen Traveler
I don't have a horse in this race but feel if the THX processing didn't tame his highs (and given how he described his room) the HK won't be able to either...If it does he will have to change his avatar. jrgreene1968
got the HK today..im kinda iffy on it. I like some of it, but not all of it, lol. 1 thing i dont like, is the internal test tones..the subwoofer level is goofy. With all the speakers calibrated, the subwoofer test tone wont get above 65db with the receiver level turned up, but flip on a movie, and the sub is way to loud. Had to use dve to calibrate. Other than that, it seems to work ok..the sound is not what i was hoping for..so those of you that said i wouldnt notice a change were right, lol..oh well i tried. Im gonna give it a day or 2 and see how i adjust to it. i did send an email to HK to ask about the goofy sub test tone problem..waiting to see what they say. Also the HK ez q auto calibration sucks[]
BluBitRates
My pioneer elite has the same issue with the sub. I think they do that because ideally the sub should be adjusted while hearing it with music or a movie.
jrgreene1968
so do you just use a calibration disc? Sure makes it a pain in the a**, since on the HK, you can only see the gui and not the dvd screen, lol, i could set the onkyo in about 2 minutes..took me 15 on the hk to get all the levels right
