Ray or Dr. Gil: a request.

Hi,

A while back someone here (I thought Ray or Gil) stated they had freq. response curves for 'other' Klipsch speakers 'at work on the computer' when he posted the curves for the Belle, K-Horn and LaScala.

I'm interested in getting a copy of the KLF-30 and Cornwall '77 curves. If anyone has 'em I'd be very grateful to receive a copy at mace@mac.com.

Thanks in advance,

Mace

PS Trey stated Klipsch won't give these curves out, I asked him first. Although he did offer to set up a pair of each and let me listen, which was cool.

Hi there.

I have response curves for the Klipschorn, La Scala, Belle, Heresy II, Cornwall II, Chorus, Forte, KG2 and KG4.

*** NOTE ***

I do NOT know the circumstances under which these curves were taken. The original spec sheet was published by Klipsch, so they are "official", but whether anechoic chamber (doubtful), in room, what kind of room, measuring distance, SPL level, etc. I have no idea.

Rather than upload them to the Klipsch server, I stuck them out on my server in a website which is under construction. Let me know if you have any trouble accessing them.

Feel free to download them.

Ray, couldn't help but notice the domain name ... is the company you used to work for? Or perhaps a new one, Phoenix-like?

Hope the latter, and that things are coming together again. Share any good news. We all need it.

I don't have anything on the KLF.

Search the internet for the site of the Belgium Audio Society review of the Cornwall. Comprehensive and probably less biased than the Klipsch spec sheet. They like it a lot, as do most.

Ray,

Thanks for the curves!

I've attached a view of my speakers and the corresponding response curves generated from the "sweet spot" using my rat shack spl meter. What's interesting is the curves really show what I'm hearing. The Cornwalls have a lot of body, maybe a little to much 'tonk" (sort of a rounded, colored sound) at times and the 30's have 'transparant' bass, which kicks in again at low end and the 30's are just plain brighter, at times harsh.

Anyway, I haven't had time to compare the published curves which Ray provided to these, and Trey won't provide KLF-30 curve. (?)

I'm going to do some more fidding with different placements, and check the response of them both together, as well as test my old Boston T-930's.

PS Can any one ID the crossovers on the cornwalls? Are they the 6 dB/octave ones?

Thanks again for the info.

Mace,

You're crossovers are B Networks with 6dB/octave slopes from the crossovers. Don't forget the horns have intrinsic roll offs of their own, so your actual slopes will be steeper. In fact, the high frequency output of the squawker is basically not afffected by the crossover. The high frequency roll off of the squawker horn is acomplished by the horn itself. ALK's crossovers do roll off the high frequency of the mids.

Also, by looking at these response curves with their common peaks and valleys, it appears the response of these speakers are being strongly affected by the room itself (unavoidable, some rooms more than others). Still, not bad in room response.
