mungkiman
A friend is helping me with another project. As you will see in the picture, the detailing isn't accurate yet, but we will refine it in the coming weeks. This one is about the size of a dinner plate, so I'll use it as a cheese board or something. Once the programming is complete, and acceptable, I'm going to make a set of drink coasters... Why not? mungkiman
Dude, cheese is made from bacteria. No coasters for you:
space_cowboy
Can this design be cut into existing coasters? You know these sandstone coasters that exist, are they stable enough to sustain the engraving or how ever it is done?
mungkiman
This was done on a CNC machine with tooling designed for wood. I can ask about sandstone.
space_cowboy
Ok, cool. A wood coaster is not really effective unless the cup or glass doesn't "sweat", unless it has a surrounding lip. This coaster is what I was thinking about.......
mungkiman
Is that dished in the middle, to hold water, or does the sandstone just absorb it? Good point though, and easy to achieve.
space_cowboy
Not dished, flat surface; as far as I know, it's just a piece of sandstone that absorbs the "sweat", and I can attest that they do work. They have a cork bottom to protect the surface where they are placed.
