Help with choosing receiver

iDunno

Recommended Posts

Right now i have:

-Kenwood Vr-209 (really chitty, but uh well i havent heard good sound so i think its kinda good)

-RF-3II

-Polk CS175 Center

-Old kenwood 3 ways

-Polk PSW150

You see there is absoluty no timbre in my home theater.

I'm expecting to get the rf-3 system by the end of this year.

Things looking in receiver:

-6.1 DTS-ES and Dolby-Digital EX

-Pro Logic II

-Really important, under $600

-Not harmon/kardon cuz ive always hated the volume control knob because once i tried to turn it down really quick and it went to full blast and ruined the speakers at circuit city Smile.gif

I have looked into the:

Pioneer VSX-D811S

Kenwood VR-6070

-Note: Everything that i buy has to be in Tweeter, Circuit city, Best buy , or Fry's. My dad does not like buying things online.

Thats a shame, because the Outlaw 1050 would be a good option for you, but as far as I know, they are only available on-line.

The Denon AVR2802 might also be a good option, which are available through Tweeters. If you are willing to stretch your budget a little better, maybe the Denon AVR3802, which is what I have, does have all the features you are looking for, but you are talking around $1000 for one ($800 if you go online).

From what I hear, Onkyo, Marantz and Yamaha (I have a Yamaha R-V702 reciever in my old setup - a decent reciever for the price at the time, but no dolby digital) has some good recievers that will fit your budget and have (most) of the features you are looking for.

I had the VR 209(very nasty in retrospect) as well and last October got a great deal on some demo separates.

Do the Outlaw! It was my second choice. You may be able to phone in the order.

I have recomended to 2 buddies and they had a great buying experience.

skonopa,

Does the 3802 support Dolby Digital EX? I have one and I know the EX option isn't indicated anywhere on the front panel, and I do not recall it being a surround mode option (at least on mine). I'm not at home right now so I can't confirm.

I was watching Atlantis DVD in Dolby Digital the other week, and my 3802 indicated that a rear channel was present on the disk (this is the first time I've seen this with Dolby Digital, in fact the 6.1 or EX was not even advertised on the DVD cover). I don't have a rear channel in my theater so I couldn't confirm if the 3802 supported it.

Is the pioneer i have chosen good?

How about the kenwood?

I talked to my dad and he lowered the budget to >450

Should i go with a new reciever first or a center channel first?

Also the 2802 doesnt have dolby digtal ex Frown.gif

Also how about the Onkyo TX-SR700 and SR600.

I think you are going to be hard pressed to find a reciever that does DD-EX within the budget that you have set.

As for the Pioneer and Kenwood, I do not know since I have never had any experience with those recievers.
