Thinking of changing pre-amp, thoughts?

Very true, didn't know Emotiva offers free shipping. I would be looking at $350 plus shipping for a brand new one. Would it be worth just buying a new one for the card just in case for another $100 or so? Then if I don't like it sell it and have the card to upgrade?

Or if you like it a lot and don't wanna upgrade, sell the card. Right now you shouldn't have a problem selling it for 150 but I have a feeling if you hold onto it for a while, you'll be able to sell it for more. Its worth 600$ off the xmc1 and 1200 off the rmc1 next summer. Who knows, it might eventually pay for the entirety of the umc

Vital - when you say delay are you referring to sound delay or just a delay in switching and waiting for the picture and sound to display?

Like Youthman said, it's a five second delay waiting for the handshake to connect I guess. It's no big deal to me. Sometimes it's less than five seconds, it just depends.

I have had my UMC-1 a week now and I am thrilled with it. I had a NAD T-163 since 2004, I did not want to take a chance with the NAD T-175 or T-187. The NAD was noisy always was, it had alot of hiss. I had the B&K Ref 50 for awhile and did not like it, the clicking relays were annoying. I also considered the Sherbourn and the Bob Carver Per/Pro.

The UMC-1 is dead quiet so much so I can hear the little nuances on TV or movies that were somewhat muted by the background noise. I have the Heritage big boys and the efficiency really makes it tough for the system to be silent when it should be. It has enormous flexibility on speaker adjustments and settings.

The small delays when switching sources is not big deal as they were not seamless before when I had the HDMI signals feeding the TV directly, since I had to toggle the inputs.

I tweeked the adjustments more this weekend so my 2 channel analog CD signal would engage the subwoofers. I set the crossover points for all 7 speakers, set the slopes to 24/db per octave for the mains and rears. 12db for the subwoofers. Set EQ settings for each of the 7 speakers and boy does it sound awesome.

Bottom line is I could have spent more, I didn't and I am pleased. I bought mine on eBay and I did not get the upgrade card but still consider the $435 invenstment a bargain. I bought the black end pieces to the replace the stock silver ones and like the looks alot better.

I am certain you will be pleased.

Bill,

I am confused. I read a review of the DHC-80.3 and the reviewer said that one of the upgrades from the 80.2 is the inclusion of XT32.

But I have read that the 80.2 does have the XT32. Do you know for sure which is it? I am tinkering with the idea also of getting

a pre to replace my Onkyo 809.

Don't know if it would be worth it but the more I read....... :)

thanks..>Sam

Orange Peel,

I am not sure of your budget but would highly recommend the NAD T175HD which can be found factory refurbished for $1599.00(msrp $3000.00). I am experiencing wonderful results with my NAD pre/pro and Acurus A200/A200FIVE(same as your 3005 but with 200w/ch) powering my RF-63/RC-64/RS-35 combo.

http://app.audiogon.com/listings/processors-nad-t175hd-preamp-processor-with-manufacturer-s-warranty-2012-09-18-home-theater-01060

If that is too much $$$, a used Integra pre/pro like any of these should do the trick:

DHC-9.8, DHC-9.9, DHC-80.1, DHC-80.2.

Sam,

Based on info from the Integra website, yes the 80.2 does have XT32.
