dewthedru
accessories4less has the Denon DBT-1713UD as a refurb'ed unit for $350 or so. Is there an inherent benefit to matching up a denon receiver with a denon BR player? http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/DENDBT1713UD/DENON-DBT-1713UD-3D-Ready-Universal-Disc-Player-with-Networking/1.html if not, what's the best option (sub-$500) out there? dewthedru
BTW, i've got a PS4. i know there won't be an issue with image quality with it vs. a standalone player (right?) but i don't know about the audio.

Is there an inherent benefit to matching up a denon receiver with a denon BR player? http://www.accessori...tworking/1.html If your Denon receiver has "Denon Link", then I would say yes. But you would have to step up to the DBT-3313UDCI. http://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/DENDBT3313UDCI/DENON-DBT-3313-UDCI-3D-Universal-Blu-ray-Player-w/Networking/1.html Another reason may be for aesthetic matching. willland
if not, what's the best option (sub-$500) out there? If you use your PS4 for it's streaming features(audio/video), then this would be a wonderful choice for BD, DVD, CD, and SACD. http://app.audiogon.com/listings/video-oppo-bdp-83-special-edition-2014-01-30-home-theater-49426 Bill Edited February 4, 2014 by willland

dewthedru
so far the PS4 is working good enough for playing BRs. Netflix and Hulu don't seem to play as nicely as they do from my AppleTV. Thanks for saving me some money....for the time being.
Cal Blacksmith
By all means, unless you need to see matching components (nothing wrong with that!) I will just echo the above, use the PS4 for disc duties, it should do very well. I can't speak for streaming though, our home internet is Dish Net for only $80 a month we get 4G (CELL PHONE 4G 10 mbps) speed WOW! In addition, we have 15G of data to use between 8 AM and 2 AM per month but from 2 AM to 8 AM we get ANOTHER 15G per month. A couple of movies streamed and you are up against our data limit! Shades of when cell phones first came out. I was paying $1 per minute and we got a whopping 120 free minutes a YEAR, that is 10 minutes a MONTH we did not need to pay for AND there was no internet or texting even available to buy. I can only hope that the changes in cell phones will take place with Sat internet service. No there is NO other service save for dialup that we can buy. Hey, it is not all bad though, if we run out of data in a month we can buy another whoppping 5G of data service for only $10! It is much less expensive to buy the Blue Rays than it is to stream that much data. We have about 350 movies on DVD/BR. For that money, I might have been able to buy or build a cell tower of my own!
