JasN00b
what would be good floorstanding mains for ht? i like a flat frequency response... and some low-end punch, but super deep bass really isnt important to me ------------------ --------------------- I. dougdrake
OK - The usual questions. How much money do you have to spend? How big a room is it? How much room for floorstanding speakers do you have? Are you open to buying used or new only? Doug ------------------ My System
JasN00b
the room's dimensions are... in the front of the room... about 12x22 and in the back of the room, its 8 feet wide it gently slopes inward as you can tell from the dimensions i have a relativly small TV, 36" i believe. that leaves...about 4 feet on each side for speakers... the cheaper the better, and i have no problem buying used since they are generally much cheaper and in decent quality. i was thinking herseys all around... ------------------ --------------------- I. Vavoline
I don't think you would be disappointed with Heresys. As many here on the BB will tell you, a Heritage HT system is a wonderful thing, if you have the room for it. With the Heresys, this should not be a problem. However, cheap is a relative term. I've seen them go for 350 - 600 bucks a pair on ebay, depending on thier condition. While not "cheap", you will be getting a lot of bang for your buck. tpg
KG series offers a good bang for the buck IMO. That is what I am doing for my first HT, KG-3.5 center, rear center, rear surrounds, Pioneer 6.2 reciever, and some KG-4 or KG-4.5's for mains. Of course I only have the KG-2.5's right now.... If you try bidding on some KG series on eBay, you ill have a competitor ------------------ Have a ProMedia sound problem? Visit SoundWise for help. Still have PM sound probs? ShapeShifter
Quartets, Kg4's or the earlier RF-3 Series are worthy contenders as mains, if size matters. ------------------ KLIPSCH IS MUSICf> My Systems f>s>c>
Soundthought
I have a set of KG3.5s that have a great sound and decent bass. Low and clean. The quartets are also a good choice.IMO They have crisp highs and gut gigglng lows. Haven't heard the herseys yet. Many have said they sound really good. It sounds like you have an intresting room to work with. Good luck. Remember: Rooms that have dimensions that share a common denominator tend to have acoustic problems. Easily solved with wall hangings and pictures.
dougdrake
Well, you left out the budget part, so I'll toss out Quartet/Forte/Chorus as 3 great speakers that have pretty flat response curves, and will give you some definite bass kick as well...KG4s also do very nicely, and are a bit less expensive. JasN00b
i'll have around 700-1000 dollars ------------------ --------------------- I. Love. MUSIC!
SteveLee
You might also consider getting some Legends -- they'd certainly provide the "punch" you mentioned. uBid has been offering KLF-30's (usually closing at about $300/ea) and KLF-C7's (usually closing around $220). With their inflated shipping, you'd be in for a bit more than $1K for your front speakers. If your budget includes surrounds and rear center, then these would be out of range. Anyway, if you're interested, here's the link: http://www.ubid.com/cat/get_cat_page.asp?CatID=1226
Q-Man
Stupid, I don't think so. Insane, maybe. Rich, far from it. I think I'll save my replys for the other members. Q. ------------------ Q-Man
dougdrake
JasNOOb - With that budget, you can definitely score some nice Forte or Chorus speakers and have $ left over! The Forte is a real gem (IMHO) and the Chorus are possibly the most under-appreciated Klipsch speakers out there (but not by those of us that own them). They are built like tanks, reach pretty low (especially the Forte), and will retain their value such that you could probably sell them for what you paid for them in 5-10 years! Their response curve is also quite flat. I have a JPG of the curve on my other PC -- I can email it to you later today, if you'd like. jhawk92
I'll throw my $0.02 in with Doug. As a "new" owner of Chorus IIs as well has my original Forte IIs, you can't go wrong with either one. And having both in the HT, is incredible. If you need something a bit smaller, the Quartet would be a good choice. Not as much slam as the Forte, and not quite as crisp on the mids/uppers as the Chorus. But it's a hell of a good speaker.
JasN00b
doug i'd like to see that curve graph, thanks. well i see some KG 5.x and 4.x and 3.x going pretty cheap... can anyone liken thier sound to another klipsch product? possibly supply me with a curve graph? btw, whats it mean for a room to have a common denominator? ------------------ --------------------- I. boa12
many fine klipsch fs mains. but as steve l. said the klf on udid w/ full warranty are probably the best value going for any main fs speaks right now. ------------------ My Home Systems Page
