joshnich
Just saw this today, that Jesse Winchester died on Friday. He never really made the "big time" but was always a favorite of mine. Check out the video from the Elvis Costello show from a couple of years ago. Jesse performing solo, both Neko Case and Elvis tear up during his performance. http://www.americansongwriter.com/2014/04/lyric-week-jesse-winchester-sham-ling-dong-ding/
Marvel
I used to have two copies of his first album, but they got lost along the way. He played in Chattanooga at an outdoor venue a few years ago, and, sad to say, wasn't too well received. I learned 'Snow' and 'Brand New Tennessee Waltz', both great tunes. Another sad day... RT FAN
He got a great obit in the NY Times, an exellent songwriter who made most of his money that way, not through performing or making records. Jimmy Buffett does a great version of Rhumba Man, besting the version done by Little Feat. RIP.
joshnich
A tribute cd was produced last year. It's called Quiet About It. Includes cuts ny Lucinda Williams, Roseanne Cash, Buffett, James taylor and Elvis Costello. It's really really good. J
RT FAN
A buddy of mine gave it to me for my birthday, it underscores how good a songwriter Jesse was. Keep an eye out for Christine Collister's version of 'How Far To The Horizon?", it is on her album "Blue Aconite", an underrated powerhouse vocalist.
