Porn_Star
is this a heavy headphone to other folks? i swear after listening to them for just over 20 mins, the top of my head feels like one huge pressure point! maybe i just have a soft head? johnnydrama
I found the mode 40s an extremely uncomfortble set of cans.Thought they sounded nice and looked good, but had to move onto another set. Ive been told they improved comfort with the new Statuses, however ive not had the opportunity to try a set yet.
anthonyn714
I wear a size 8 or 8 1/8 baseball cap. Yes, I have a giant dome. Wearing the M40s is like walking around with a vise grip on my skull. I'm out $350. Sounds great, but sooooo uncomfortable I can only wear them 15-20 minutes at a time. And this is even if I let them stretch around a klipsch floor speaker over night. Paying $350 plus tax and having to stretch your speakers every night is kind of a big bummer. Whoever designed, and whatever department head approved this poor design should all be fired. How hard could it be to design some cans with great sound, make it comfortable, and then look nice? finallygotmyheresies
Mine were also uncomfortable to begin with until I started keeping them stretched over a RB-3. It did a great job of loosening up their grip on my cranium.
Administrators Chad Posted August 5, 2014 Administrators Share Posted August 5, 2014 My head is huge too (so I have that going for me, which is nice), and I admit my Modes put a squeeze on my head after about an hour or so. Fortunately, we improved the design considerably and somewhat recently released the STATUS as its replacement. They feel MUCH better. http://www.klipsch.com/klipsch-status-on-ear-headphones

That was a feature I really liked on the Modes.
BLSamuel
I too have a big skull. Only tried the Mode for a few minutes. Yep kind of heavy and tight. And was only able to try passive as a battery was not available. The sound was really good but not the most comfortable. I think P Thump told me the active noise reduction also boosted the bass a bit which he wasn't his idea. I have a pair of Status. Besides a big head, I also have pretty big ears which barely fit into the ear cups. The Status are also kind of heavy. I have to move the headband to get off the current pressure point. Yeah kind of vise like. Sound quality is very good. There are many days with allergies and the like that I just don't feel like sticking things in my ears so the Image x10's, Custom 2, or A5i's are not the best option. I wonder if more padding in the headband would help? Very well built cans but are kind of tight on head, heavy on head, and tight fit for those of us with big ears. I may try the stretching over a speaker... sounds like it may help. Excellent sound quality.
