Electrovoice HP640 horns - FREE

I have still have a pair of Electrovoice HP640 horns. The project will not get finished and the garage is overflowing.

They need a home.....

These have a 2 inch throat and can be used with a EV DH1a driver or JBL 2445/46 drivers or any other 2 inch drivers. These are CD horns, meaning they have a frequency response off-axis that is comparable to that measured on-axis (IOW, they don't beam as you go up in frequency). Their dispersion is narrow( 60 deg by 40 deg) and is controlled down to 500Hz in the horizontal and down to about 1800 in the vertical. They would be an advantage in a small room. They load down to about 500 Hz. With the right driver they can be used in a 2-way system.

They are not small. They measure about 28 inch x 13 in x 17 deep (as I recall). On eBay they sell for about $75-150 each. I am giving these away for someone who can used them. Since I am taking a loss on them, you can imagine how willing I am to pack them up and ship them, etc. Enough said....

I am located in SE Connecticut (Groton area, near the Casino), about 1 hr from New Haven, Hartford, Providence. Or about 2 hr from Boston & New York.

I hope someone has a vision and can use these. They do sound good and are probably quite a bit better than many of the horns I see discussed on this forum.

PM please

It looks like my new friend FJD is interested. If things do not work out, I can put others on a waiting list. Soon my garage will be empty .....

Please not that I updated the measurements. They are actually 28 inches wide. My memory is far from perfect.

What drivers are you going to use.

I've been "audio-picking" premium JBL parts for the last few years when the price has been right. The components I have so far include:

EV HP640 horns

JBL 2450-16 compression drivers (it would blow my "budget theme" but as I get closer to the build, I'm thinking hard about the beryllium aftermarket diaphragms)

JBL 2404-8 tweeters (if using passive crossover networks {I have a set of ALK AP-500 & the ESN5800}, otherwise two-way with an Ev Dx 38 active crossover {I think it may have been from one of Coytee's FYI for-sale posts)

JBL E145-8 bass drivers (same type of driver used in JBL's 'legendary' DD55000 project Everest and Claude already did the Hornsrep model to show the drivers should meet the Ev horns just fine at 500Hz)

You had given me Dana's email to request a set of Jamboree plans.

I think I just need to buy the appropriate plywood, screws, glue, etc. I don't have much in the way of tools, but found out my girlfriend's father has two good table saws (and knows how to use them) and other tools. Seems like a great project for us, but he is three states away right now (hope to remedy and be about an hour apart by next spring).
